New Dental Clinic Opens at Case Western Reserve University

Posted on Thursday, June 13, 2019

The Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine and Cleveland Clinic opened their new, larger dental clinic on campus here this week. More easily accessed by patients, it will expand opportunities for education and research, enhance the patient experience and support the health and wellbeing of Cleveland-area residents.

The three-story, 132,000-square-foot facility is the second building of the Health Education Campus (HEC), a joint effort between Case Western Reserve and Cleveland Clinic designed to promote collaborative practice and lifelong learning among health care professionals. It is located directly across from the HEC centerpiece, the Sheila and Eric Samson Pavilion; dedicated in April, the Samson Pavilion serves the more than 2,200 students in the university’s nursing, dental and medical schools, with students from the social work school joining them for some classes as well.

The dental clinic was designed by DLR Group│Westlake Reed Leskosky of Cleveland. Kahler Slater of Milwaukee provided programming, planning and interior architectural services.

Approximately 19,000 patients were treated at the clinic’s previous facility each year. The new building, with its larger size and additional technology and equipment, will enable the clinic to serve more patients, perform more complex procedures and reduce the number of visits required to complete certain procedures.

The clinic includes procedure spaces for general and specialty dentistry and dental surgery, support labs, clinical research environments, 3D computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) lab equipment, imaging equipment and central sterilization. Clinical spaces are designed to allow flexibility while maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy. Natural light is filtered throughout the building, further enhancing the patient experience.

The new building also offers much easier access to patients. The previous facility was difficult find, hidden among taller buildings and facing a service drive. The new facility is located on a well-trafficked street and has a prominent presence on the HEC. It also has an adjacent parking lot and offers drop-off and pick-up at the front door.

Clorox Healthcare Announces Collaboration with HP Healthcare

Posted on Tuesday, June 11, 2019

Today, at the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) 2019 annual conference, Clorox Healthcare is proud to announce that HP has tested its latest HP Healthcare Edition products[1] to be compatible with Clorox Healthcare® Bleach Germicidal Wipes and designed to support infection prevention protocols.[2]

Computers and electronic devices in healthcare facilities are commonly contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms[3] and regular cleaning and disinfection is needed to keep them from becoming a vehicle for pathogen transmission, but not all equipment is designed to support daily disinfection.

“Cleaning and disinfection play a critical role in patient safety, and technology can’t be exempt from the daily practices facilities rely on to support their infection prevention protocols,” saidRaja Bhadury, Head of Care Delivery Solutions, HP Inc. “HP Healthcare Edition products are specifically designed for healthcare environments and engineered for easy, repeatable cleaning and disinfection with germicidal wipes every shift, every day.”[4]

Enabling Efficacy, Compatibility, and Compliance

Clorox Healthcare’s collaboration with HP builds on a legacy of innovation in disinfectant efficacy and surface compatibility and a longstanding commitment to support safe and compliant product use.

In addition to introducing new and reformulated products engineered to provide powerful disinfection efficacy with improved compatibility and aesthetics, Clorox Healthcare also created the Clorox Healthcare Compatible™ program. Through the program, Clorox Healthcare helps healthcare facilities identify cleaning and disinfecting solutions that are compatible with the surfaces and equipment they need to treat and helps manufacturers ensure their products support essential infection prevention protocols. By working with manufacturers to screen a broad platform of chemistries and provide surface compatibility expertise and access to a third-party lab for testing, the program ensures healthcare facilities can feel confident the products they use to reduce the risk of infections won’t damage surfaces and equipment. It also helps manufacturers provide the best instructions for the maintenance, cleaning and care of their products.

“As a leading manufacturer of healthcare surface disinfectants, Clorox Healthcare continuously strives to deliver solutions that combine broad antimicrobial efficacy with the compatibility and aesthetics healthcare facilities need for consistent, compliant use,” said Amy Harmon, Associate Director, Marketing, Clorox Healthcare. “We believe that all products, materials and equipment created for the healthcare environment must be designed to support patient safety and are excited to work with companies like HP who are equally committed to innovation that enhances patient safety.”

A Comprehensive Portfolio of Disinfecting Solutions Built on Innovation

Clorox Healthcare offers the industry’s most robust portfolio of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-registered surface disinfectants in addition to the award-winning Clorox® Total 360® System, advanced UV technology, and cleaning and odor removal products to provide healthcare facilities, clinical staff and EVS professionals with a comprehensive portfolio of best-in-class solutions to help reduce the risk of infections and protect public health. By continuing to drive innovation in disinfectant efficacy, surface compatibility and product delivery, Clorox Healthcare is committed to empowering clinical and Environmental Services professionals in the fight against healthcare-associated infections by arming them with products and resources designed to promote compliance and enhance patient safety facility-wide.

Southern Implants Releases New Implant for Optimizing Predictable Anterior Aesthetics

Posted on Tuesday, June 11, 2019

BOSTON, MA (June 10, 2019) — Privately held Southern Implants, Pty. launched its latest breakthrough dental implant innovation, the INVERTA™ Implant. The company announced the launch from the International Symposium on Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry (ISPRD) held June 6-9 in Boston, MA.

What makes the INVERTA Implant innovative is its Body Shift™ design. A chamber for bone growth is created in the inverted coronal segment of the implant enhancing the ability to obtain natural looking aesthetics. The wider apical portion allows the implant to achieve primary stability critical in immediate placement.

INVERTA also incorporates proven features from Southern Implants’ other implant product lines such as its Sinergy™ Surface and high strength Grade 4 Titanium. The new implant is available in both the popular Deep Conical and External Hex Connections in both standard and Co-Axis® with Subcrestal Angle Correction® configurations.

Dr. Stephen Chu, a leading prosthodontist at New York University, as well as in private practice, inspired the development of this unique implant design. “The INVERTA Implant represents a paradigm shift in biologic thinking that ultimately enhances aesthetic outcomes in modern day dental implantology. It has been refreshing to work closely with a company that listens carefully to clinician needs and responds with speed and efficiency in bringing novel and meaningful products to market.”

Graham Blackbeard, Managing Director and founder of Southern Implants commented, “We thrive on finding solutions that will optimize outcomes in challenging clinical situations and are pleased to add INVERTA as yet another unique Implant, designed for a specific purpose.”

With INVERTA now available throughout the world, Southern Implants will continue to expand its leadership position in the anterior aesthetics segment of the market. Southern Implants has rapidly gained notoriety for providing innovative treatment solutions not available through other implant manufacturers. Dentsply Sirona Supports Water Street Mission and TeamSmile

Posted on Tuesday, June 11, 2019

Giving back to local communities and people who need help—this is why Dentsply Sirona participates in two particular projects in the United States. Supporting both programs—Water Street Mission and TeamSmile—help address the needs of vulnerable communities with limited access to dental care. Dentsply Sirona’s contribution ranges from equipment and supplies and financial donations to its employees’ personal commitment through voluntary work.

Supporting Water Street Mission for nearly a decade

Since 1905, Water Street Mission provides help to needy and homeless people in the community of Lancaster, PA. Its goals are to restore their residents’ health and to prepare them to re-enter society. For the latter, the institution’s staff trains and assists them regarding job placement services. Above all, however, the non-profit organization provides housing and meals as well as medical and dental care. For more than eight years, Dentsply Sirona has supported Water Street Mission by supplying dental care supplies and equipment. Greg Kessler, Vice President of Health Services, Training, and Education at Water Street Health Services, says, “It’s difficult to summarize the enormous positive impact Dentsply Sirona has had with their support of Water Street Health Services. Over the years, their relationship has allowed state-of-the-art care to be provided to our patients with supplies and equipment that is second to none. Their generosity and genuine care for the community is an example of how a benevolent partnership should work. Our ‘thank you’ cannot be overstated.”

Free dental care for over 350 patients in the first quarter 2019

In addition to its own five-person team, Water Street Mission relies on the commitment of 11 local dentists who donate their time and provide free dental care to local residents. The clinic staffed by volunteers operates four days per week and for a four-hour span each. Most of the volunteering dentists are on the monthly schedule for an average of 152 hours per year. In the first quarter of 2019 alone, they had already served more than 350 patients. Keith Clements, Vice President, US Distribution and Global Account Executive at Dentsply Sirona, says, “We are honored to provide support to Water Street Health Services, an organization that improves the lives of people on a daily basis through their care and services. We look forward to continuing our support in the years ahead.”

TeamSmile establishes partnerships for disadvantaged children

In comparison to the Water Street Mission’s local activities, TeamSmile operates as a national non-profit organization. Since 2007, its mission is to facilitate partnerships between dental professionals, professional sports teams, and dental organizations. They work together to provide dental treatment for children who otherwise have no access to decent dental care and oral health education in their communities. Every year, the TeamSmile program, supported by the local professional or major college sports teams, takes place at different cities and states around the country. At a recent TeamSmile event in Charlotte, NC, in March 2019, Dentsply Sirona helped sponsor the program; additionally, Dentsply Sirona also participated in Charlotte’s annual charity golf tournament that supports the TeamSmile program with the Carolina Panthers. During the Charlotte TeamSmile program, more than 200 children received free dental services ranging from extractions to sealants and health education. Along with the company’s financial donation of $10,000, Dentsply Sirona donated five units of its ultrasonic scaling system, Nupro Freedom, including foot pedals. In addition, Dentsply Sirona employees volunteered at the event. They spent time interacting with the children before and after their treatments. Moreover, Carolina Panthers players and cheerleaders attended the program, took photos with the families and encouraged the children to look after their teeth in order to prevent oral diseases.

“We are thrilled to partner with Dentsply Sirona to help us provide free dental care and oral health education to underserved children throughout the United States through our TeamSmile model,” said John McCarthy, Executive Director of TeamSmile. “Dentsply Sirona is the largest dental manufacturer in the world, and it’s wonderful to see that the leadership and the employees have made the commitment to give back and make a positive difference in this world. The underserved children of this country are the beneficiaries of their kindness.”

TeamSmile’s plans for 2019: Up to 36 events planned in 2019

Allison Zora, Marketing Communications Manager at Dentsply Sirona, reflects on the Charlotte event, “Giving back at the TeamSmile event in Charlotte was a great way to be reminded of why we do what we do and the remarkable impact Dentsply Sirona products can have on both patients and clinicians. Not only did we get to support our local community and make a positive impact on children’s lives, but we were able to build team comradery by working together outside of the office.”

In 2019, TeamSmile plans 33 to 36 events to care for 6,000 to 7,000 children. In comparison, in 2018, the program comprised 29 events where more than 5,400 children received free dental care worth over $2 million.

Keith Clements, Dentsply Sirona’s project lead, says, “We look forward to expanding our support of this organization that provides care for the needy and specifically their focus on improving the oral health of children which aligns to the mission and vision of Dentsply Sirona.”
