Ivoclar Vivadent Introduces the Efficient Esthetics Product Portfolio

Posted on Friday, November 30, 2018

Ivoclar Vivadent announces the introduction of its Efficient Esthetics Product Portfolio for direct restorative procedures. Designed to help dentists achieve high-quality esthetic restorations with greater efficiency and predictability, the product combination reduces working steps by up to 58%, without compromising restoration durability. The optimally coordinated products include the Tetric® Evo-Line family of composites, Adhese® Universal, Bluephase® Style LED curing light, and OptraGate® lip and cheek retractor. When used in combination, simplicity meets esthetics for isolating, bonding, restoring, and curing during direct restorative procedures.

High Esthetics

The Tetric® Evo-Line composites include four well-coordinated resins for direct restorative needs and feature refractive index technology to create beautiful, esthetic restorations in true A-D shades. Sculptable Tetric EvoCeram® and flowable Tetric EvoFlow® are universal 2-mm layering composites for anterior and posterior restorations. Sculptable Tetric EvoCeram® Bulk Fill and flowable Tetric EvoFlow® Bulk Fill can both be used for 4-mm bulk placement in the posterior region to save clinicians up to 47% of placement time compared to conventional composites.

High Bond Strength

With Adhese® Universal—a single-component, light-cured adhesive for direct and indirect bonding procedures and all etching protocols—high bond strengths (>25 MPa) can be achieved. The only universal bonding agent available in the innovative VivaPen®, Adhese® Universal achieves predictable results with virtually no sensitivity, while simultaneously promoting cost-effective and efficient use: 3 times more applications per ml compared to bottles.

Innovative Anesthetic Syringe Ensures Stopper Stays Inside Carpule

Posted on Friday, November 30, 2018

The harpoon on traditional aspirating syringes can pull the rubber stopper completely out of the anesthetic carpule when trying to unload or change cartridges, which is not only unsafe, but wastes precious time as well. Invented by a dentist, the plunger on the Pike Anesthetic Syringe features a modified sleeve that positively separates the harpoon from the stopper when retracted. The syringe’s patent-pending design works every time, so practitioners will never have to deal with this hassle again. The Pike Syringe is fully autoclavable and compatible with all standard anesthetic carpules and needles.

Posted on Thursday, November 29, 2018

Colgate® is excited to introduce the Next Generation of Colgate Total®. New Colgate Total®SF contains a new Stannous Fluoride formula stabilized with Zinc Phosphate that fights plaque-causing bacteria on 100% of mouth surfaces*1 including teeth, tongue, cheeks, and gums, providing the ideal preventive solution for whole mouth health.

Colgate Total®SF effectively fights harmful bacteria while protecting against bacterial repopulation, significantly reducing the overall bacterial load while creating a protective barrier that helps shield against attachment and regrowth. In development for more than a decade, the unique formula of new Colgate Total®SF is the subject of 28 granted patents and 95 pending patent applications.

Offering comprehensive benefits for the whole mouth, the new advanced formula found in new Colgate Total®SF addresses all indications of the original Colgate Total® including plaque, gingivitis, caries, stain removal/whitening, and calculus. Yet new Colgate Total®SF delivers even more benefits than ever before to help patients achieve superior whole mouth health.

Specifically, ongoing clinical testing of new Colgate Total®SF shows superior reductions vs. ordinary non-antibacterial toothpaste in:

✓ Plaque

✓ Gingivitis

✓ Calculus

What’s more, Colgate Total®SF now provides additional new benefits:

✓ Sensitivity relief

✓ Enhanced enamel strength

✓ Odor neutralization

“The advanced fluoride formula of Colgate Total®SF offers significant advantages versus ordinary fluoride toothpaste, and still retains all of the benefits that dental professionals already love about our original Colgate Total,” remarked Dr. Barbara Shearer, Director of Scientific Affairs for Colgate. “Our advanced fluoride formula provides multiple benefits for the whole mouth. These attractive features combined with a great taste make Colgate Total®SF a great tool to empower dental professionals and patients striving to achieve whole mouth heath.”

*Statistically significant greater reduction of cultivable bacteria in saliva and on tongue, teeth, cheeks, and gums with new Colgate TotalSF vs non-antibacterial fluoride toothpaste after 8 weeks, 12 hours after brushing.

The Dawson Academy’s Airway Symposium returns January 2019

Posted on Thursday, November 29, 2018

The Dawson Academy’s third Airway Symposium will share the latest information and research about the practical application of diagnosing, evaluating and treating airway and sleep-disordered breathing in children and adults.

The American Dental Association recommends that dentists screen patients for medical and dental problems that can be related to airway disorders, such as TMJ issues, bruxism, teeth erosion, gastric reflux, and esophageal and throat cancer. The two-day Airway Symposium will discuss the anatomical evolution resulting in airway and breathing issues, advancements in recognizing these issues and explain how dentists can evaluate and diagnose these disorders.

Internationally known dentists will bring their expertise in different dental fields to assist other dental professionals to better understand airway and breathing disorders. The instructors at the Symposium in St. Petersburg, Florida are:

Dr. DeWitt Wilkerson, general practitioner, senior faculty member and director of dental medicine curriculum at The Dawson Academy. Dr. Wilkerson is a leader in research and education on dentistry’s role in the diagnosis and medical management of disordered breathing. He launched The Dawson Academy’s annual Airway Symposium in 2017 and has lectured on integrative dental medicine, whole health dental treatments and airway/dental sleep medicine all over the world.

Dr. Kevin Boyd, a board-certified pediatric dentist practicing in Chicago. Dr. Boyd is also an attending instructor in the residency-training program in Pediatric Dentistry at Lurie Children’s Hospital. His clinical approach to treating toddlers and children orthodontically focuses on how facial structure, bone growth, and oral hygiene can directly impact a child's sleeping habits, jaw growth, crooked teeth, and breathing patterns.

Dr. Barry Raphael, an orthodontist in New York. Dr. Raphael uses techniques designed to provide children and teens with an optimal airway and breathing pattern by addressing anatomical, physiological and behavioral aspects of growth and development. Dr. Raphael is immediate past-president of the New Jersey Association of Orthodontics and is on the organizing committee for the ADA Conference on Children's Airway Health.

Dr. Marianna Evans, an orthodontist and periodontist in the Philadelphia area. Dr. Evans divides her time between private practice, teaching at the University of Pennsylvania Department of Orthodontics and clinical research. She lectures on airway orthodontics and periodontal plastic surgery. She co-founded the OrthoPerio Institute and recently developed 4D Morphotropic Orthodontics™, an airway-focused preservative orthodontic technique.

During the two-day course, dental professionals will:

-Discover the impact and evolution of airway and breathing disorders from childhood through adulthood.

-Connect the relationship between airway disorders and occlusion.

-Learn how the experts diagnose, evaluate and treat these disorders.

-Understand how to incorporate the concepts into your practice.

The Dawson Academy’s Third Annual Airway Symposium will be held Jan. 18-19, 2019 at the Hilton St. Petersburg Bayfront, 333 First Street S. in St. Petersburg, Florida. The course provides 16 hours of continuing education (CE) credits.

Declining Reimbursement Rates a Key Concern among Dentists, Reports National Survey from Bankers Healthcare Group

Posted on Wednesday, November 28, 2018

Declining reimbursement rates is the top industry concern among dentists, according to a 2018 national survey from Bankers Healthcare Group, a leading provider of financial solutions for healthcare professionals. Nearly three-quarters (72%) of 413 licensed dentists (both practice owners and independent practitioners) surveyed by BHG indicated high levels of concern about this trend’s impact on the industry.

“Lower reimbursement rates mean dentists take in less income, so it’s not surprising that this was the most cited concern among the audience,” said Al Crawford, Original Founder, Chairman and CEO of BHG.

When asked to rate other concerns in the industry, dentist cited:

Impact of DSOs/corporate dentistry: 61% highly concerned

This issue was less like to be a concern among younger dentists (42%) and more likely to be a concern among those practicing in a suburban office (71%)

Increasing competition saturating the industry: 49% highly concerned

This was more frequently cited by those practicing in an urban (53%) or suburban (51%) location and those aged 35-49 years old (54%)

Government healthcare programs: 43% highly concerned

This was more likely to be cited by younger dentists (51%) and those working in an urban office (48%)

One-quarter of those surveyed listed “Other” additional industry concerns, including the cost of equipment; availability of equipment; patients’ access to care; cost of education; and insurance.
