Emphasis will be placed on expanding access to health care for children (birth to age 18), although all efforts to expand access to care will be considered, including those involving animal health. Programs also should involve an established multi-disciplinary team that demonstrates the expertise needed for a comprehensive solution to expand access to care. Lastly, programs should demonstrate potential for replication and large-scale impact, and should include a business plan or demonstration of financial sustainability. Nominations will be accepted beginning August 17, 2015, through midnight Eastern time on November 1, 2015.

A panel of expert judges from the fields of medicine, philanthropy, social entrepreneurship and business will evaluate the applications and select the finalists and medalists.

The August edition of The Roundtable presented by Inside Dentistry magazine discusses occlusion, its importance to proper dental care, and the best ways to create ideal occlusion.

Occlusion is the way the upper and lower teeth come together when chewing or at rest. When occlusion is off and the bite does not align properly—a condition known as malocclusion—it can lead to health problems, including TMJ pain, tooth fractures, and migraines. Many studies also link malocclusion to sleep disorders, gum recession, and even poor posture associated with neck and back pain. To ensure that dental treatments are successful in the long term, it is important for dentists to understand proper occlusion concepts.

COPENHAGEN (Business Wire) - 3Shape and Planmeca have created an integration that enables 3Shape users to import digital impressions and case information from the Planmeca PlanScan® intraoral scanner and use these for design in 3Shape Dental System™. The second part of the integration allows 3Shape CAD/CAM users to output the CAD files to a Planmeca PlanMill® 40 milling machine in a fully integrated workflow.

3Shape Dental System CAD/CAM software presently accepts open (STL) digital impression files from most commercial intraoral scanners. These new Standards recognize digital dentistry and competence in the restoration and surgical placement of dental implants as an integral part of specialty education in prosthodontics.

As the national association representing the dental specialty of prosthodontists, the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) applauds these new Standards.

The new Standards are scheduled for implementation on July 1, 2016, at which point all dental practitioners who pursue specialty training in prosthodontics will be competent in the surgical placement of dental implants, as defined in the Standards.
