Pacific Dental Services Foundation Dentists for Special Needs Office Becomes First Dental Practice in the U.S. to be Named a Certified Autism Center™

The Pacific Dental Services® (PDS) Foundation’s Dentists for Special Needs office in Phoenix, Ariz., has been designated as a Certified Autism Center™ (CAC) by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), making it the first dental office in the United States to earn this credential. To achieve CAC status, at least 80% of patient-facing staff completed specialized training on how to effectively understand, communicate with, and support autistic individuals during patient visits.

The CAC certification ensures that dental practices are better equipped to serve patients with autism and sensory sensitivities. By providing a structured framework for staff training and facility accommodations, the designation makes dental visits more accessible and supportive for individuals with autism, while also highlighting the practice’s commitment to specialized, patient-centered care.

The Dentists for Special Needs office offers family-friendly dental care tailored to patients of all ages with disabilities. Services include specially trained clinicians and staff, dedicated appointments to reduce patient anxiety, and a sensory room designed to accommodate patients with sensory sensitivities.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. David Porritt, Chief Strategy Officer of Productive Dentist Academy (PDA). Dr. Porritt passed away on the morning of September 30, 2024, leaving a legacy in the dental profession, where he dedicated more than 35 years to strategic leadership, business development, and doctor advocacy for career and life satisfaction.

Dr. Porritt joined Productive Dentist Academy in May 2022. His strategic vision, leadership, and passion for the dental community, empowered dentists to make informed business choices, reignite their passion for dentistry, and attain financial independence on their own terms.

Throughout his career, David has held pivotal roles, including founder and president of DSP Capital Partners, a consultancy supporting startups and growing companies in the dental sector, and president/CEO of Comprehensive Finance, a company offering patient financing and revenue cycle management solutions. He also served as President of National Network Companies, which provided digital continuing education to the dental and laboratory fields.

David’s passion for dentistry began as Co-Founder and Director of Summit Dental Study Group, where he was inspired by his mentors, Dr. John Kois, Dr. Gerard Chiche, and Dr. Ray Kubisch, to provide quality live, hands-on continuing education for dental professionals. His dedication to the dental community was unmatched, and he consistently demonstrated his commitment to helping dentists succeed in an evolving, consolidating profession. David held a DBA, MBA, and BS in Business Administration, further contributing to his expertise in delivering sustainable business solutions.

HyperFIL+ is a next-generation dual-cure bulk-fill composite that features zirconia nanofillers for improved mechanical strength, optimum esthetics, shade-matching, and polishability.

HyperFIL+ outperforms the market leader, Bulk EZ PLUS in all key property comparisons, including compressive strength, flexural strength, barcol hardness LC, shrinkage percentage, shrinkage stress, and wear resistance. HyperFIL+ provides enhanced protection because self-curing composites polymerize towards the prep’s base and internal walls, significantly increasing protection against gap formation at the tooth composite interface, microleakage, and post-op sensitivity. Unlike its light-cure counterparts, HyperFIL+ sets no matter how far away it is from the curing light, thus ensuring complete polymerization even in the most challenging clinical cases.

To save chair time, enhance patient comfort, and boost the practices efficiency, the entire HyperFIL+ restoration can be placed in a single layer, and it adapts seamlessly to a wide range of clinical scenarios. Whether it’s a large posterior restoration with a deep proximal box or a complex anterior case, it shines. HyperFIL+ is highly radiopaque and compatible with all Parkell bonding agents.
