National Dental Hygiene Month Celebrated by ADHA with Engaging Events and Initiatives

Posted on Friday, October 11, 2024

October marks National Dental Hygiene Month, a time for dental hygienists to highlight their vital contributions to oral health and advocate for accessible dental care for all. The American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) is celebrating throughout the month with a range of informative digital content, a live event, and online engagement, including trivia and giveaways sponsored by Colgate® Oral Pharmaceuticals Inc.

In a special video message, ADHA President Erin Haley-Hitz, RDH, BSDH, MS, FADHA, MAADH, expresses her enthusiasm for the month. “As you can see, I’m not sitting behind a desk. I'm here in the clinic with my team, caring for patients,” she states. This year marks the fourth collaboration between ADHA and Colgate to honor the profession. Haley-Hitz emphasizes that the role of hygienist extends beyond routine cleanings, and involves critical assessments and screenings that contribute to comprehensive patient care.

The theme for this year’s celebration, “RDH Investigates,” underscores the essential role dental hygienists play in identifying clues and symptoms related to patients' oral and overall health. “Be on the lookout for exciting digital content, case studies, trivia, product sample signups, volunteer opportunities, and educational events,” Haley-Hitz encourages.

A highlight of the month will be the “RDH Investigates” live event on October 19 in Stamford, Connecticut. This gathering will provide hygienists with the opportunity to network with peers and engage in discussions about treatment options and patient cases alongside the Colgate team.

More information on events and activities throughout National Dental Hygiene Month is available at adha.org/NDHM. Hygienists are also invited to follow ADHA on social media at @youradha.
