Laon Medi Orthodontic Software Approved by US FDA

Posted on Wednesday, March 20, 2024

Laon Medi, an artificial intelligence (AI) medical solution company, announced that its dental clear aligner software, 'Align Studio,' recently received approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Align Studio enables real-time diagnosis and device fabrication for dental clear aligners based on dental scan data. By additionally utilizing dental CT images and X-ray images, more professional diagnoses are possible. It separates teeth from CT images automatically and simulate the movement and changes of inter-tooth roots dynamics to avoid collision during the orthodontic treatment.

Dental offices can drastically reduce the time and cost involved in dental visits and diagnoses by making clear aligner in chairside, based on accurate and fast analyses of treatment plans."

With this FDA approval, Laon Medi plans to enhance further AI tools of Align Studio what presents orthodontic alignment as applicable to preliminary clinical settings with just one click.

Laon Medi also plans to expand platform service to allow dental professionals approaching from various locations to use the software.

Faster. Better. Stronger. Adhese Universal in the VivaPen for Enhanced Efficiency of Dental Treatment Protocols

Posted on Wednesday, March 20, 2024

The Ivoclar Group, a leading supplier of integrated solutions for high-quality dental applications, offering a comprehensive product and systems portfolio for dentists, dental technicians and dental hygienists, has developed an advanced portfolio for direct restorative treatment procedures with the aim of enhancing the efficiency of dental practices in achieving exceptionally esthetic results. Its Direct Restoratives Workflow features products for every step of the treatment process.

The Direct Restoratives Workflow from Ivoclar is intended to help dentists improve the efficiency of their treatments. Ideally matched products of high quality ensure maximum efficiency and highly esthetic results. “Ivoclar offers coordinated direct restorative treatment products that promote an efficient workflow and are developed to meet the needs of patients and dental professionals alike,” emphasized Reinhard Goerge, Director GBU Direct Restoratives, recently.

The workflow has three main attributes:

Faster – The portfolio comprises reliable products that reduce the time required to place posterior restorations. The products save up to 51 percent of the working time.1

Better – The Direct Restoratives Workflow exemplifies true team spirit. The products are designed to work together as a team and significantly simplify the work in the dental practice.

Stronger – High-quality dental products offer patients excellent esthetics, and they improve the efficiency of dental professionals at the same time.

A click is all it takes: Adhese® Universal in the efficient VivaPen®

Ivoclar has developed a pioneering solution for establishing a strong adhesive bond: the light-curing single-component Adhese® Universal adhesive in the innovative and user-friendly VivaPen ®.

Adhese Universal in the VivaPen yields up to four times more applications per ml of product compared with bottle adhesives, which makes both economic and environmental sense and therefore sets new benchmarks in the dental industry. One VivaPen containing Adhese Universal can be used to place an impressive number of 187 single teeth.2 Clearly, Adhese Universal optimizes product usage and enhances the efficiency of the Direct Restoratives Workflow in the dental office. The single-component adhesive ensures fast and controlled direct application in the oral cavity. The click mechanism, which allows the adhesive to be placed with utmost precision, appeals to users. Irrespective of the etching protocol used3 and the moisture conditions on the tooth surface, Adhese Universal achieves a strong bond of more than 25 MPa on enamel and dentin. The desensitizing properties of the product help to minimize the risk of postoperative sensitivity under wet and dry conditions.

Innovative design for confident bonding

The pen-like design of the VivaPen in combination with the bendable tip ensures easy handling in the mouth—without having to predispense the adhesive into a mixing well. This allows you to bond restorations with confidence and ensures the accurate fit of indirect restorations. Fast and reliable curing in only three seconds using the 3sCure light-curing mode or in only five seconds (with a light intensity of 2,000 mW/cm2) using the Bluephase PowerCure makes the treatment protocol significantly more efficient. Adhese Universal can be used to bond both direct and indirect restorations using all the different etching protocols*.

Adhese Universal provides threefold efficiency: It is suitable for universal use, reduces the amount of material wasted and requires only short light exposure – an optimal solution for dentists who value quality and efficiency equally.

New Report Shows How Dental Disparities Impact Veterans’ Productivity and Well-Being

Posted on Tuesday, March 19, 2024

Report Highlights Barriers Veterans Face Accessing Dental Care, Including 85% Who Are Ineligible for Dental Coverage or Care

Veterans across the US face significant challenges in accessing dental care, which influences their overall well-being and productivity, according to a new report by CareQuest Institute for Oral Health and the American Institute of Dental Public Health (AIDPH). The report finds that lack of access to dental care leads to significant losses in productivity time and money for veterans and their employers.

Veterans are a strong presence in the workforce, with many federal and state programs financially incentivizing employers to hire veterans. But many of those veterans are disproportionately impacted by dental disease. Veterans are 60% more likely to experience tooth decay compared to nonveterans, and 42% report having gum disease.

Out of the 9 million veterans who are eligible for medical care through the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), 85% are not eligible for dental coverage or care. In fact, veterans pay 65% more in out-of-pocket dental costs on average compared to nonveterans.

“We must and can do better to ensure that our veterans have access to high-quality comprehensive health care, including dental services,” said Myechia Minter-Jordan, MD, MBA, president and CEO of CareQuest Institute. “The solutions exist, and now is the time to enact needed policy change to ensure our nation’s veterans, who have made incredible sacrifices for our country, are able to live healthy, productive lives when they return home.”

“The continued lack of access to dental care experienced by veterans compounds negative health care outcomes, extending beyond just health and oral health into daily work lives,” said Annaliese Cothron, DHSc, MS, CPH, co-founder and executive director of AIDPH. “When veterans are in dental pain or experience social anxiety from unmet dental needs, their workplaces can suffer from low productivity. Veterans are the backbone of our national workforce and deserve solutions that keep them healthy and economically thriving.”

The report, which analyzes data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS), highlights the profound impact of untreated dental disease on veterans’ quality of life and productivity in the workplace.

Key findings include:

• Veterans with urgent dental needs were approximately five times more likely to report poor functioning and work compared to veterans who needed routine dental care.

• Poor oral health is linked to several chronic conditions, including heart disease. Among veterans with heart disease, the annual cost of missed workdays was four times higher for those who did not have a dental visit in the past year.

• Nearly 3 million veterans felt self-conscious or embarrassed because of their teeth, mouth, or dentures, which “has profound effects on socialization and feelings of loneliness.”

• Dental-related issues contribute to over $45 billion in lost work productivity annually among US adults.

• Veterans who reported experiencing oral pain at least occasionally within the past year were 13.5 times more likely to have oral health-related productivity loss compared to veterans who reported never experiencing oral pain.

The report underscores the urgent need for more integrated health care solutions that prioritize cost-effective dental care for our nation’s veterans. Recommendations outlined in the report include strengthening the Community Care Network, ensuring that veterans who are eligible for dental care through the VA utilize the benefit, supporting Federally Qualified Health Centers, and implementing policy solutions on the local and state level to improve access and quality of care for veterans.

The most effective policy solution to decreasing costs and improving oral health is expanding dental eligibility criteria for veterans who are already receiving medical care and chronic disease management through the VA.

MB2 Dental Reaches 700th Practice Milestone, Demonstrating Strength of Pioneering Dental Partnership Model

Posted on Tuesday, March 19, 2024

Company Now Partners with More than 1,400 Dentists Across 40 States

MB2 Dental, the first and largest dental partnership organization (DPO) nationwide, announced today the 700th practice joined its growing network.

The milestone was reached with the addition of Dental Wellness of Anna, a new dental practice in Anna, Texas, under the ownership and management of MB2 Dental doctor partners and husband and wife team, Dr. Vinh Ngo and Dr. Emilie Faucheu. Together, they will provide exceptional care at their newest location at 601 South Ferguson Pkwy, Suite 300. The facility spans 3,030 square feet, featuring 11 state-of-the-art operatories. Dr. Ngo has been a dedicated partner of MB2 Dental since 2016, when he joined the network with four practices in operation.

“Since deciding to open a fifth location, I have experienced a seamless process in all aspects of opening the office. The support system and step-by-step guidance from the team at MB2 Dental has been remarkable. With MB2 Dental alongside me, I’m well taken care of as an owner, knowing there’s always support to help maximize the potential of my offices while still affording me the autonomy to decide what’s best for my practices,” explained Dr. Ngo.

MB2 Dental continues to grow through strategic acquisitions and the development of new offices, which now extends support to nearly 1,500 general and specialty dentists across 700 practices in 40 states. Throughout its 17 years in business, MB2 Dental has developed an extensive support infrastructure for its doctor partners, covering all facets of practice management and facilitating brand expansion through new office openings—a task that can often be daunting to sole practitioners, due to complexity and financial demands.

Dr. Chris Steven Villanueva, founder and CEO of MB2 Dental, added: "Reaching our 700th practice milestone emphasizes the success of our dentist-centric model. Since our inception in 2007, our focus has been to empower dentists, such as Dr. Ngo, to achieve their entrepreneurial ambitions. Our model allows our doctor partners the support and resources to expand their brands without sacrificing their autonomy. Our joint venture model has been instrumental in advancing the dental profession by prioritizing dentist leadership."

DEXIS Announces AI Enhancements to Dental Implant Workflow Plus New Integration for 40,000+ Users

Posted on Tuesday, March 19, 2024

DEXIS™IS ScanFlow v.1.0.10 adds a new series of guided workflows and AI enhancements as well as a two-way integration with DEXIS 10 to optimize dental implant workflows.

Earlier this year, DEXIS launched its dental implant ecosystem so clinicians can manage their entire implant workflow, from diagnosis to delivery, with one integrated toolset. To enhance workflow efficiencies, DEXIS announces the release of a new intraoral scanning update, DEXIS™IS ScanFlow v.1.0.10. The update includes a new series of guided workflows, enhancements to its AI capabilities, and an integration with DEXIS Imaging Suite software version 10.

DEXIS will be demonstrating the newest IOS Innovations at booth 1117 during the Hinman Dental Meeting in Atlanta, GA, on March 21-23, 2024.

“We are excited to introduce our latest DEXIS intraoral scanning software update, aimed at boosting productivity for DEXIS software owners and implant workflows,” says Brian Gooch, VP of Marketing at DEXIS. “We’ve made scanning fast and easy, even for more complex situations. Digital impression data is important for implant case planning, so we enable highly accurate data to be incorporated into chairside or open workflows, and easily shared with labs or colleagues.”

The IS ScanFlow integration allows DEXIS 10 users to launch IS ScanFlow directly from the DEXIS Imaging Suite and manage a more complete patient imaging history in one location for informed decision-making. This integration will be available to the over 40,000 users of DEXIS Imaging Suite version 10 to advance and streamline their workflows.

The IS ScanFlow software update maintains high-speed scanning, user-friendly interface, precise data capture, and an open, flexible system. Early adopters have provided positive feedback, highlighting the system’s ease of use and its ability to reliably capture accurate data.

“We’ve used the new Full Arch Implant workflow for five cases so far with fantastic results for each one,” said Dr. Robert Pauley of Union City, Georgia. “It’s very easy to take the common scan with the provisional in place, remove and scan the provisional, and then obtain a final scan of the soft tissue with scan bodies. So far, we’ve tried in three prototypes and delivered two final prostheses, and I’m excited to say that each has fit passively with ideal occlusion, which really speaks to the accuracy of the data.*”

IS ScanFlow v1.0.10 aims to maximize productivity through AI-driven tools for dentists

The new release adds a brand-new AI Matching tool that simplifies data capture in complex situations like multiple scan bodies, full and partial edentulism.

It also includes algorithm enhancements to its Implant Scan Body AI Assist tool which automatically detects scan bodies and reduces noise in the data, corrects artifacts and enhances details – furthering the automation of precise data capture.

IS ScanFlow v 1.0.10 introduces guided dental workflows to cut manual tasks and simplify processes

Users now have the flexibility to fill out case information before initiating scanning or after completion, thanks to the new CaseFlow Manager tool. Regardless of the chosen option, users can then move into an easy, guided workflow that automates manual processes, predicts next steps, and assists in acquiring data for the selected indication.

The brand-new Full Arch Implant workflow guides users through the data-capture workflow for a full arch case and then automatically aligns the scans in occlusion, allowing for one consolidated dataset to send to a lab or manufacturer.

IS ScanFlow v 1.0.10 also facilitates efficient lab communication by enabling users to view case progress and real-time lab status updates directly within the Patient History screen. This allows easy collaboration, reduction in delays, and timely completion of tasks.

IS Voyager cart adds cord-free power with UPS Mounting Box

The DEXIS intraoral scanners’ mobile cart, The IS Voyager, now offers a battery-powered mounting box that provides up to 10 minutes of cord-free power and eliminates the need to power down your scanning setup when moving the cart from room to room. The UPS (uninterrupted power supply) Mounting Box also provides a backup power source, which allows users to complete and save scans in case of sudden power loss, protecting valuable data from being lost.

IS ScanFlow integrates with DTX Studio™ Clinic to connect the implant workflow

“The true power of IS ScanFlow is seen when paired with the core of the DEXIS implant ecosystem—DTX Studio Clinic,” says Brian Gooch, VP of Marketing at DEXIS. “Packed with smart tools and advanced algorithms, DTX Studio Clinic serves as the clinic’s imaging homebase, diagnostic hub, and treatment planning navigator. It connects each step of the implant process together and now, when purchased with an intraoral scanner, comes at no extra cost.

Implant workflow productivity can be maximized by integrating IS ScanFlow into the rest of the tools and software within the DEXIS digital ecosystem – where practices can manage an entire implant case, from diagnosis to delivery, with one integrated toolset.”

Reserve your spot today and discover how these updates can simplify your workflow and empower successful implant planning with our April 9th webinar https://bit.ly/43pZTmw.

New Dental Hygiene Scholarship Launches Thanks to the Lawrence and Sally Cohen Endowed Scholarship Fund for Dental Hygiene

Posted on Tuesday, March 19, 2024

The DTA Foundation, in partnership with Benco Family Foundation, is proud to open applications this month for their new dental hygiene scholarship program, funded by the Lawrence and Sally Cohen Endowed Scholarship Fund for Dental Hygiene.

Thanks to a generous $1M Legacy gift from Benco Family Foundation, dental hygiene students from underrepresented communities and backgrounds will be awarded scholarship funding through a new endowment, enabling support for aspiring dental hygienists for years to come. As the US faces a shortage of dental hygienists, this scholarship aims to increase access to a dental hygiene career, especially for those that have historically lacked access to it. Dental hygienists are vital members of the dental team and are often the trusted partner between the patient and the dental office.

"This new dental hygiene scholarship in honor of Larry & Sally Cohen will impact so many aspiring dental hygienists and oral health for years to come," says Sarah Miller, DTA Foundation Executive Director. "Dental hygienists play a critical role in increasing access to oral health care, especially for marginalized and underserved communities. We are proud to be a part of this exciting new initiative with the Benco Family Foundation."

The online application, found on the DTA Foundation website, will be open from March 11th to April 30th. Applicants will be asked to answer short essay questions and to provide a two-minute video to describe their unique background and future dental hygiene aspirations.

Julie Radzyminski, Interim Executive Director of Benco Family Foundation notes, "We are excited once again to partner with the DTA Foundation to provide a scholarship for dental hygienists. Dental Hygienists are the first line of prevention for a dental office and are a crucial piece of complete oral health wellness."

In addition to the scholarship, Young Innovations has graciously agreed to include a complete line of preventive items for the student, along with a set of scrubs and $500 for school supplies. This additional support will further set up the scholarship winner for success, as dental hygienists are usually asked to provide these items at their own cost.

"Expanding the dental hygiene profession and ensuring access to care have become industry-wide missions, and Young is honored to serve and support this initiative in partnership with the Dental Trade Alliance Foundation," says Jamie Falasz, BS, RDH, Strategic Business Development Manager for Young Innovations.

If you are interested in also supporting this new scholarship, contact Sarah Miller, Executive Director, at sarahmiller@dentaltradealliance.org or (703) 379-7755.
