Pacific Dental Services’ College Advancement Program Marks Milestone with First Graduate

Supporting Professional Growth: Pacific Dental Services' First-of-its-kind College Advancement Program Helps Team Members Reach Their Goals

Pacific Dental Services® (PDS), a leading national leading dental and medical support organization, is celebrating a groundbreaking achievement this week as it honors the first graduate from its College Advancement Program. Deja Yslava, who started at PDS two and a half years ago first as a healthcare coordinator and worked her way up to operations manager in training (OMT), has earned her bachelor’s degree in community health from Arizona State University (ASU) through the program.

The PDS College Advancement Program, which launched in 2021, is the first of its kind in the dental industry, offering eligible team members 100 percent up-front college tuition coverage towards an undergraduate degree of their choice through ASU Online. In partnership with InStride, a premier global provider of strategic workforce education, the program allows PDS operations managers, healthcare coordinators and dental assistants the flexibility and satisfaction of advancing their careers while earning their education tuition and debt-free – all while remaining employed full-time.

Yslava was inspired by her father, a self-made, hardworking man who dreamt of his children attaining higher education and graduating from college. She began attending on-campus classes at ASU in 2015 but had to stop two years shy of graduating, in part due to the heavy financial burden. Starting in 2021, the PDS College Advancement Program provided the scholarship funds that enabled her to resume her studies online while continuing to work and eventually graduate.

Yslava said she chose community health as her major to help those in need and gained knowledge that informs her work at PDS. “I learned a lot about health literacy through my degree program and how every patient has a different understanding of his or her own health,” Yslava said. “In my work as an OMT, it’s a good reminder to meet patients where they are as individuals and help educate them about not only their oral health but its connection to their overall health.”

“I am so grateful for the opportunity that Pacific Dental Services has given me to achieve my dream of earning a college degree, and for the support and encouragement that my managers provided along the way. I feel truly valued by PDS and have a deep sense of loyalty and appreciation for the investment the company has made in me and my future.”

Trish Elliott, vice president of PDS’ people services department, said, “We are thrilled to celebrate the graduation of our first College Advancement Program participant, Deja Yslava. At Pacific Dental Services, we are dedicated to fostering the growth and development of our team members, both personally and professionally. This milestone is a testament to our commitment to providing team members with the resources and opportunities to thrive in their careers and in life.”

According to a survey taken by team members currently enrolled in the College Advancement Program, 94 percent of learners said the program increased their desire to grow their professional career with PDS. This program is one of several education benefits available to the company’s team members. For those who may not be eligible for the College Advancement Program, other options include a traditional tuition reimbursement program up to $5,250 per year, over 1,000 units of free continuing education, and a professional development program focused on specialized training and certificates.

Stanley M. Bergman Delivers Commencement Address at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry

Posted on Wednesday, May 17, 2023

Henry Schein Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Underscores the Importance of the “Human Touch in a Digital World”

Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Henry Schein, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSIC), the world’s largest provider of health care solutions to office-based dental and medical practitioners, delivered the commencement address on May 12, 2023, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry.

Addressing the 2023 graduating class, Mr. Bergman stressed that in today’s digitized world, the concern for people – the human connection in the practice of dentistry – will always be paramount, from caring for patients and building and mentoring the office team to collaborating with other health care professionals, and giving back to society. He emphasized that the human touch is essential in building and strengthening relationships, whether it be in dentistry or other facets of society.

“We live in a world that is increasingly driven by technology, but we must remember that technology is just a tool, and humans wield that tool. How we wield that tool depends on our human touch,” said Mr. Bergman. “What links the best dental practitioners across the decades, and will continue to be the defining quality of the best dentists in the future, is the ability to establish a caring human connection.”

Mr. Bergman noted that the human touch is key in the interdisciplinary collaboration between oral health and the other medical disciplines. He underlined how dentistry is a vital component of the health care spectrum, with a direct correlation between good oral care and good overall health.

The graduation was officiated by Janet Guthmiller, DDS, PhD, Dean of the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. The graduating class included 150 members receiving degrees in dental hygiene, advanced dental education programs, and dentistry.

“We applaud the 2023 graduating class of the UNC Adams School of Dentistry for their hard work, resilience, and dedication,” said Dean Guthmiller. “As our students begin their oral health careers, Mr. Bergman’s message of establishing the human connection could not be more relevant. I know our graduates will continue to make us proud and provide outstanding patient care to the communities they serve!”

In addition, Mr. Bergman highlighted the technological advances available for dental professionals today, including digital scanners, 2D and 3D imaging, 3D printing, advanced implants, aligners, and dental materials, lasers, clinical software with artificial intelligence embedded for diagnostic support, and rapid salivary diagnostics to detect oral cancer and other diseases. He reinforced that this technology is worth celebrating, but it cannot replace the human need for connection between the health care practitioner and the patient or the unique human ability to dream and imagine a new future.

XPLEX Base: The Denture Base Material Now Also Available as Disk

Posted on Wednesday, May 17, 2023

To provide maximum flexibility, CANDULOR expands the XPLEX material families with three milling disks and a new bonding material.

High level of individuality and flexibility

The high-impact XPLEX material is now available as a disk for CAD/CAM-supported fabrication. Three denture shades are available (1, 5 and 34), which correspond to the shades of the existing XPLEX denture materials. The laboratory thus has the option of responding to the different preferences of the technicians, who are free to choose the method of completion. For analog processing, one can continue to work with the dual-application high-impact polymer and the respective hot or cold monomer components; for digital fabrication, the XPLEX Base denture base disks were developed.

Good material performance

The improved physical properties of the high-impact material offer high fracture resistance. In addition, the fracture resistance is significantly increased compared to conventional PMMA materials and the material impresses with low discoloration and plaque adhesion, good polishability and a good bond to denture teeth.

Processing

Next to the XPLEX Base disks, the TCR family is also being complemented with tooth-colored disks. With the combination of the TCR Mono and TCR Multi disks and the XPLEX Base denture base material, individual dental arches, tooth segments and denture bases can now be milled for the first time.

The use of XPLEX Bond is recommended for optimal bonding of the milled or prefabricated denture teeth to the milled denture base. This involves a PMMA-based autopolymerizing composite developed specifically for this family of materials.

Two Milling Discs Are Added to the TCR Family of Materials

Posted on Wednesday, May 17, 2023

CANDULOR launches tooth-colored discs, thus expanding the TCR family of materials.

Analog and digital fabrication with a single material.

The discs TCR Mono and TCR Multi represent the two new family members in the TCR family of materials. Together with the PhysioSet TCR and PhysioSelect TCR tooth lines, hybrid fabrication is now possible (analog and digital). The application possibilities of the discs are numerous. They can be used for the fabrication of single teeth and tooth segments, as well as for creating full or hybrid dentures.

The TCR Mono is a tooth-colored, monochromatic stained disc. With the multichromatic colored TCR Multi, the harmonious color gradient ensures a high level of esthetics, making subsequent characterization no longer necessary. The 20 mm thick TCR Mono and TCR Multi Discs are available in shades A1, A2, A3, A3.5, B1, B3, C2 and D2. In addition, the bleach shade BL3 is also offered.

The proven TCR material in two discs and two tooth lines.

The entire product family is made of durable TwinCrossedResin, the 3rd generation TCR material. This is a highly modified type of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) variant in which both the polymer as well as the matrix are cross-linked. This is done by producing highly cross-linked polymer in combination with cross-linked matrix. This ensures good abrasion resistance and resistance to plaque*.

* Abrasion resistance, clinical study over 2 years; plaque resistance measured in the laboratory

TCR Mono: Monochromatic

Shades: A1, A2, A3, A3,5, B1, B3, C2, D2, BL3

Size: 98.5 – 20 mm

TCR Multi: Multicolor

Shades: A1, A2, A3, A3,5, B1, B3, C2, D2, BL3

Size: 98.5 – 20 mm

J. MORITA USA Announces Tri Auto ZX2+

Posted on Tuesday, May 16, 2023

J. MORITA USA, world leader in endodontics, has announced the Tri Auto ZX2+, an upgraded endodontic handpiece with a built-in apex locator. This cordless unit now supports reciprocation files, and its new generation Optimum Glide Path 2 (OGP2) mode further increases safety and ease of use.

OGP2 offers an innovative reciprocating feature. Its intelligent motion reduces file binding, and when it does occur, dramatically reduces the chance of files breaking inside the canal. Even with curved or narrow root canals, OGP2 allows you to provide treatment that maintains the original root canal shape. From a #10 scout file to the widest size available, Tri Auto ZX2+ handles any clockwise (CW) or counterclockwise (CCW) file all in one mode. Patency, glide path preparation, and shaping can all be performed with OGP2, allowing you to focus on treatment rather than settings.

In addition, Tri Auto ZX2+ offers proven Optimum Torque Reverse (OTR) technology. OTR technology offers superior safety while efficiently preparing the canal. Continuous rotation is maintained until the file encounters resistance in the curved and difficult part of the canal. Depending on the file load, the motor alternates between forward and reverse rotation with great sensitivity to prevent jamming and file breakage. OTR mode now supports reciprocation files in addition to rotary files. Modification of the cutting angle can be made to suit your needs.

Tri Auto ZX2+ also features a built-in apex locator with Morita’s world-renowned technology. The motor is linked with the canal measurement function and the position of the file tip inside the canal is shown in the display.

“This handpiece is now in its third generation,” commented Manabu Ehara, Senior Vice President for J. MORITA USA. “Our research and development team concentrated on maximizing the efficiency of this motor, truly exemplifying the motto: ‘Endo. Optimized.’ Its ability to now operate with popular reciprocation files is an important component. Tri Auto ZX2+ will streamline the root canal procedure and further solidify Morita’s stronghold in the endodontic market.”

During the CDA Presents Anaheim meeting, May 18-20, 2023, Morita will have a Tri Auto ZX2+ available for demonstration, plus a free gift for dentists, at booth #2138.

For more information on Tri Auto ZX2+, visit www.morita.com/usa or call 1-888-JMORITA (566-7482).
