Helping Free Dental Clinics Affected by COVID-19

Posted on Friday, June 4, 2021

During the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of Americans lost their health coverage including dental care. With nowhere else to turn, more people have been seeking free and low-cost dental clinics for dental care. These clinics serve as a safety net for our most vulnerable populations, and have been struggling to meet the growing demand with their limited resources.

To help free clinics combat the shortage of funds and supplies, the Dr Kevin M Kenny Foundation and ASDA District 11 led a fundraiser by organizing ten free CE courses for dental professionals. Topics were chosen to prepare dental professionals for a successful career in dentistry and practice ownership. In total, they raised $8,000 from corporate sponsors. All the donations raised were donated to two free clinics in California: Homeless Not Toothless and UCSD Student-Run Free Dental Clinics.

“Oral health is fundamental for personal well-being. I’m glad we were able to rally up the dental community during a time of crisis to help those who struggle to access dental care.” – Vivian Lee, ASDA District 11 Service Chair
