Candulor announces the 14th International KZW Competition. This year, the dental specialist from Switzerland once again focuses on full denture prosthetics with its renowned competition and honors international talents with valuable awards.

The KunstZahnWerk Award from Candulor will once again be presented at the same time as the IDS in Cologne in 2025. Registration is now open and interested participants should be able to register by July 19, 2024 at the latest.

This KZW is again about solving a patient case which requires technical dental skills, precision and a methodical approach. The case requires the fabrication of an age-appropriate, characterful, esthetic, mucosa-supported maxillary and mandibular full denture.

A pronounced atrophy of the mandible represents a real challenge for the participants. The work should be fabricated using the GERBER set-up method (tooth-to-tooth relationship) and must be submitted in a CANDULOR articulator or a partially or fully adjustable articulator.

Oliver Benz, Head of Education at CANDULOR, comments: "As with every KZW, the primary goal should be 'usability,' consisting of functional, material and esthetic aspects. In our opinion, the GERBER set-up method with its multitude of approaches to a solution is ideal for this case. The use of this technique is the condition to achieve an esthetically perfect result."

Particular attention is placed on a detailed model analysis as well as meaningful documentation presenting the fabrication of the restoration. As documentations are also awarded with prizes, they represent an important part of the competition. In addition, the best documentations are published in various professional journals and thus create good publicity for dental professionals.

The best entries are selected by an independent jury of prosthetics experts and practitioners. On the one hand, the achieved patient comfort and the fulfilling of the patients’ wishes for better hold, increased chewing performance and natural esthetics are evaluated. And on the other, the jury evaluates particularly the plausibility of the model analysis, the set-up of the teeth and the characterization of the dentures according to predefined criteria. The three best entries will be awarded.
