Ultradent Unveils New Universal Shade Composite

Posted on Tuesday, May 9, 2023

Ultradent Products, Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of high-tech dental materials, is announcing the launch of Transcend™ universal composite, a new composite material providing unmatched esthetics and handling properties. Transcend composite is designed to simplify the restorative process by allowing dentists to complete most restorations with just one shade of composite.

Thanks to Ultradent's Resin Particle Match™ technology, Transcend composite offers high levels of translucency, allowing for ideal pigmentation and opacification to match the surrounding dentition. The Universal Body shade also has optimal opacity to help block the underlying tooth color, eliminating the need for a blocker shade.

"Transcend composite enables dentists to achieve excellent esthetic results with ease," says Ultradent Sr. VP of Research & Development, Neil Jessop. "Its unique formulation offers the perfect balance of flexibility, strength, and gloss retention to ensure the long-lasting results patients are seeking."

Transcend composite is a nanohybrid formula that combines high strength and easy sculptability, making it ideal for both posterior and anterior composite restorations. The handling properties of Transcend composite have been finely tuned to be firm but malleable, allowing it to stay in place without drooping or slumping during manipulation. The material is highly wear-resistant, but also less abrasive to opposing dentition than other composites on the market.

In addition to the Universal Body shade, Transcend composite features four dentin shades and two enamel shades for cases when a layering technique is appropriate. These layering shades were handpicked to include only the most popular shades from Ultradent's esthetic composite lines to ensure dentists have the shades needed to accomplish restorative work done on a regular basis.

Overjet's FDA-Cleared Dental A.I. Named to Fast Company's 2023 World Changing Ideas Awards

Posted on Monday, May 8, 2023

Overjet's landmark FDA clearance in 2022 for detection and outlining of caries notches multiple honors in Fast Company's annual list

Overjet, the industry leader in dental artificial intelligence, has been recognized with the prestigious Fast Company 2023 World Changing Ideas Awards in two categories for the use of innovative technology to improve oral health. Fast Company has named Overjet's FDA-cleared Caries Assist — or what Fast Company calls 'cavity-detection software' — a world changing idea in software. Fast Company has also recognized Overjet as an honoree in the Midsized Business category (companies with between 100 and 999 employees), naming Overjet as one of seven midsized companies in 2023 making the world more equitable, accessible or sustainable.

"It's thrilling to see the creativity and innovation that are so abundant among this year's honorees," says Fast Company editor-in-chief Brendan Vaughan. "While it's easy to feel discouraged by the state of the world, the entrepreneurs, companies, and nonprofits featured in this package show the limitless potential to address society's most urgent problems. Our journalists have highlighted some of the most exciting and impactful work being done today—from housing to equity to sustainability—and we look forward to seeing not only how these projects evolve but how they inspire others to develop solutions of their own."

Fast Company's 2023 World Changing Ideas Awards awards ingenuity and recognizes some of the world's most inventive entrepreneurs and forward-thinking companies that are actively tackling global challenges and solving problems that affect us all.

Recognized by Fast Company for pioneering AI efforts to improve oral health, Overjet addresses a pivotal need by providing dentists and patients with access to transformative dental AI that can detect and outline cavities in patients' X-rays in real-time.

Fast Company's World Changing Ideas Awards is the latest award this year to Overjet for its role in leading AI-driven transformation of dental care. Earlier this year, Fast Company named Overjet as one of the top 10 most innovative companies in healthcare in the world. With multiple FDA clearances, Overjet is the only dental AI technology that is FDA-cleared to detect and outline decay (cavities), as well as quantify bone level measurements and detect calculus on radiographs.

"We are thrilled that Fast Company has named Overjet's dental AI — in particular, Overjet's Caries Assist — a world changing idea," says Wardah Inam, PhD, the CEO and Co-founder of Overjet. "Overjet is at the forefront of developing transformative AI that paves the way for a future in dental care that is clinically precise, efficient and patient-centric. We are also proud that Overjet's rapid pace of continued growth has been recognized by Fast Company. This is truly a testament to Overjet's partners and customers — the true game changers who are driving dental AI adoption to improve patient care."

Every day, some of the largest dental organizations nationwide are relying on accurate information provided by Overjet's dental AI to deliver outstanding patient care service. Overjet's partners and customers span multiple industries, including insurance, dental, research and education. The company's insurance sector customers include some of the major health plans reaching over 100 million people in the United States. Evy Award Winners Announced at AACD 2023 Texas

Posted on Monday, May 8, 2023

The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry bestowed the coveted AACD Evy Awards upon deserving winners at their Annual Scientific Session Celebration of Excellence, during AACD 2023 Texas. Since 1988, the AACD has publicly recognized dental professionals who make a difference to the Academy, the profession, and to their communities, and honors its most accomplished and dedicated professionals with Evy Awards. Evy recipients are first nominated for the award by their colleagues, and then are selected by the AACD Awards and Recognition Committee. Evy Award winners represent the most exemplary and talented individuals within the AACD who are dedicated to advancing excellence in the art and science of cosmetic dentistry at the highest standards of ethical patient care.

The following six award winners were acknowledged at AACD Texas 2023:

Tanya Lea DeSanto, DDS, was awarded the Humanitarian Evy Award. This award is given to an AACD Member who has made outstanding contributions to charitable and philanthropic causes.

Dr. DeSanto was acknowledged for being the first dentist to visit Gonaives, Haiti, in 80 years. When she became aware of the need for dental care in the northern part of the country, Dr. DeSanto mentored a dentist in Haiti who then took over the dental needs of the people in Gonaives, helping thousands of people live free of pain, and introducing preventive care for residents for many years to come. Her contribution to the people of Gonaives embodies the true spirit of AACD’s vision to further excellence in education in order to provide a lifetime of healthy smiles.

Newton Fahl Jr., DDS, MS, was awarded the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry Evy Award. This Award is given to the primary author of an original jCD article published within the established year that is determined the best of the year.

Dr. Fahl is a well-known and award-winning dentist and educator who has published extensively on direct and indirect bonding techniques, and is also on the editorial board of several peer-reviewed journals. He is a legend in the cosmetic dentistry world, and his talent is undeniable and admired by many. Ross Nash, DDS, FAACD, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Evy Award. This award is given to an outstanding professional within the Academy who has made significant, long-standing contributions over their lifetime to the field of cosmetic dentistry.

Dr. Nash has provided outstanding cosmetic dental education programs to many, and has been a fierce advocate for cosmetic dentistry. His down-to-earth teaching style has encouraged dental students to become their best, all the while emphasizing step-by-step details. Dr. Nash is known for always presenting a complete landscape of his work which includes beautiful outstanding cases, as well as dramatic failures.

“Don’t start developing a cosmetic dental practice for the money. If money is your motivation, you will become frustrated and will not become very good at it. Your passion needs to be your motivation,” said Dr. Nash.

Matthew R. Roberts, CDT, AAACD, was awarded the Excellence in Cosmetic Dentistry Evy Award. This award is given to an AACD member that, through their efforts as an educator, has advanced the art and science of cosmetic dentistry.

Mr. Roberts was acknowledged for being an innovator, mentor, and educator for many years in the field of dental technology and esthetic dentistry. He has shaped the way the dental industry works to provide excellent dentistry and has tackled some of the most complex cases. Because of this, technicians and dentists from all over the world reach out to him for clinical guidance. He’s been generous with his willingness to share his knowledge, teaching others through lecturing and courses throughout his career.

“I have learned so much working with Matt, and have also watched him teach others the skills needed to provide outstanding cosmetic results to their clinics and patients. As a dedicated professional Matt Roberts has shaped the way we as an industry work to provide excellent dentistry.”

Diana Tadros, DDS, AAACD, was awarded the Dr. Nathaniel D. Hill Rising Star Evy Award. This award is given to an AACD member who is emerging in the industry and shows the greatest leadership potential for the AACD or in cosmetic dentistry in general.

Dr. Tadros was acknowledged for presenting outstanding educational workshops worldwide about exocad digital workflows, along with being a true ambassador for the AACD Accreditation process. Mr. Whipple was acknowledged for his four terms as a board director and for the countless hours he has served the Academy. He used his time and talents to help serve the AACD’s most impactful committees and has never been shy about standing up for what he believes.

The first "Scientific Symposium on ddMRI (dental-dedicated MRI)": Dentsply Sirona and Siemens Healthineers presented initial research results to a university audience in Bensheim, Germany, at the end of April 2023.

Innovation in dental diagnostics: Dentsply Sirona and Siemens Healthineers have joined forces to explore the scientific introduction of MRI in dentistry. For the first time, researchers, and leading scientists from North American and European universities along with representatives from Dentsply Sirona and Siemens Healthineers presented the current status of the joint research project for the use of MRI in the dental environment at the "Scientific Symposium on ddMRI" in Bensheim, Germany. Participants also gained valuable insights into initial case studies. As part of this scientific partnership, the two companies are working closely with renowned dental universities worldwide to broaden the awareness of advantages of magnetic resonance imaging in oral diagnostics and to jointly advance the current state of dental care.

“Working with ddMRI has opened many new possibilities regarding how much can be achieved in dentomaxillofacial diagnostics. It adds value to the previously established imaging modalities and starts a new field of research for the coming years. I believe fully integrating this innovation into the dental clinic routine will be very straightforward,” says Associate Professor Rubens Spin-Neto, DDS, PhD, dr. odont., Department of Dentistry and Oral Health, Section for Oral Radiology, Aarhus University, based on his experience thus far with ddMRI in the research project.
