GrandioSO Light Flow

Posted on Tuesday, September 15, 2020

VOCO is proud to present GrandioSO Light Flow, the low viscosity nano-hybrid flowable composite for special occasions. Due to VOCO’s proprietary designer nano-technology, GrandioSO Light Flow has the filler degree of a universal composite on one hand, and an extremely flowable viscosity on the other that allows for targeted and precise applications using an ultra-fine intraoral tip—even finer than a periodontal probe.

With a filler content of 76% by weight, GrandioSO Light Flow’s 3-point flexural strength of 151 MPa is an example of how it effortlessly attains physical property values much higher than traditional flowables that often have lower fill rates and higher viscosities.

GrandioSO Light Flow allows the practitioner new options in performing precise, minimally invasive dentistry without compromising the quality and longevity of the restorations. GrandioSO Light Flow comes with two different sizes of intraoral tips to offer a range of options for each indication.

YAPI Secures Growth Investment from M33 Growth on the Heels of Industry Innovation Award

Posted on Tuesday, September 15, 2020

YAPI, a leading software provider of patient communication and paperless solutions for dental practices, announced today that it has secured a growth investment from M33 Growth, a Boston-based venture and growth stage investment firm. The investment will be used to build out YAPI's account management, customer success, and R&D teams, in addition to bolstering its existing sales and marketing programs.

M33's investment in YAPI comes as the company's product suite, which enables dental practices to automate administrative tasks so they can spend more time focusing on their patients, is being recognized by industry groups and used by a growing number of dental practices. Despite disruption from the COVID-19 pandemic, YAPI recorded its strongest quarter in Q2 – adding more dental offices to YAPI's platform than any other period in its nine-year history – highlighting the platform's ability to help dental offices reopen and operate in a contactless manner. From personalized appointment reminders and automated patients recalls, to streamlining intra-office practice communication and digitizing paper-based forms, YAPI's product suite enables patients and dentists to remotely access important practice & patient information, positioning dental offices to succeed in an increasingly digital world.API & M33 Growth Partnership

As further proof of its industry leadership, YAPI has been named a winner of the 2020 Cellerant Best of Class Technology Award. Presented by Cellerant Consulting Group, an incubator and accelerator for dental companies, the award is selected by a panel of prominent technology leaders across dentistry with a mission to create awareness around innovators driving the discussion as to how practices will operate now and in the future with potentially practice-changing technologies.

"This year has proven just how critical paperless software is to keeping operations running as smoothly as possible at dental practices across the country so that we can all focus on what matters most—our patients," said Dr. Gina Dorfman, Co-Founder and CEO. "This recognition from Cellerant and investment from M33 Growth validates our vision for YAPI, and we're eager to bring that vision to life by accelerating the growth of the business, building out and investing in the YAPI team, and working closely with seasoned advisors at M33 Growth."

Founded in 2009, YAPI began as a small custom-designed software solution to address the pain points Dr. Dorfman was seeing in her own dental office. In 2011, YAPI entered the market for dental offices and began transforming the way thousands practice dentistry.

"Founders who are experts in their space and have identified opportunities to better improve workflows in their own industry bring to market a unique perspective that directly benefits their customers," said Gabe Ling, Co-Founder and Managing Director of M33 Growth. "The team at YAPI understands the pain points of today's dental practices, and we see tremendous opportunity in addressing these market challenges—especially in today's environment. As a partner, M33 Growth seeks to help YAPI expand its market reach through investments in customer success, sales & marketing, and R&D teams." To learn more about YAPI, visit www.yapiapp.com.

Smile for a Lifetime Launches National Campaign to Provide Orthodontic Care for Children in Need Across the Country

Posted on Friday, September 11, 2020

Smile for a Lifetime, an international nonprofit program dedicated to providing donated orthodontic care to children and young adults who otherwise could not afford care, is launching a new national campaign led by two doctors who will cycle from coast to coast to raise funds and awareness for the organization. Smile for a Lifetime’s Board President and orthodontist Dr. Don Montano and maxilla facial surgeon Dr. Rob Relle will kick off the historic “Creating Smiles One Mile at a Time” fundraising ride in Santa Monica, Calif. on Saturday, September 12, 2020. Accompanied by two additional cyclists, Brian Dooley and Abel Rivera, and a support vehicle, the team plans to average 100 miles a day for approximately five weeks, as they ride along historic U.S. Route 66 to the finish line in Virginia Beach, Va.

“We are taking on this epic cross-country ride with the goal of helping as many kids as possible to get the high-quality orthodontic care they deserve through Smile for a Lifetime. It’s an idea two-and-a-half years in the making,” said Dr. Montano. “Along the way, we hope to shine a light on the mission of Smile for a Lifetime, encourage people across the country to donate, and ultimately inspire more orthodontists, dentists and oral surgeons to join our network of volunteer providers.”

Since its inception in 2008, Smile for a Lifetime serves an average of 600-650 children per year with a focus on children in foster care, low income homes and other special circumstances. This year, applications are at an all-time high, in large part due to the pandemic and families facing increased financial hardship. All orthodontic and dental care is provided free of charge outside of an initial application fee, with doctors donating their time and treatment while orthodontic manufacturers deliver the necessary equipment at no cost.

“As the Smile for a Lifetime waiting list grows, it’s imperative that we add more doctors to our network in order to match families with their services,” added Dr. Relle. “By traveling roughly 3,000 miles across the country and making some stops to visit with local dental communities, families and potential patients, we hope to raise awareness of the need and different ways to help nationwide.”

OrthoBanc is a key sponsor of the “Creating Smiles One Mile at a Time” campaign, along with McGill & Hill Group, Montano Elevated Orthodontics, ProBioraPlus and Dolphin Imaging & Management Solutions. The four riders plan to take a southerly route through California, Arizona, New Mexico, the panhandle of Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, southern Illinois and Kentucky, before dipping into Virginia for the final push, crossing the finish line in Virginia Beach on approximately October 30 or 31. The group will cycle a large portion of historic Route 66 made famous internationally in the 1950’s and a landmark for many cyclists crossing the United States on bikes.

Throughout the journey, the Smile for a Lifetime Foundation will feature a “Where in the World Are They Smiling” promotion on social media, which will award prizes to followers who can guess correctly where the foursome will land on any given week. Additional photos will be added on social media platforms as cues to help the public guess. Follow Smile for a Lifetime on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and the hashtag #Smile4ALifetime for more details.

Posted on Friday, September 11, 2020

Leading dental support organization Pacific Dental Services (PDS) recognizes September's Dental Infection Control Awareness Month, a month-long campaign led by the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention. This year's theme, "Break the Chain," encourages clinicians, infection control coordinators, and professionals in the dental industry to advance dental safety by sharing infection control best practices, success stories, or selfies on social media and to join the conversation by using the hashtag #DICAM20. PDS-supported dental practices have always taken precautions to ensure patient safety and continue to be at the forefront of infection control.

"At PDS, we believe that each individual team member is personally responsible for maintaining a safe, compliant and ethical workplace," said Michael Williamson, Vice President, Compliance & Ethics. "We are committed to maintaining the highest standard of infection prevention in all the practices we support. Dental Infection Control Awareness Month brings valuable awareness to the importance of hand hygiene, dental unit waterlines, personal protective equipment, and instrument sterilization."

Dental practices supported by PDS have always placed patient safety as their top priority. Moreover, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, additional safety measures have been adopted to protect patients and team members. Consistent with PDS’ commitment to the safety of dental practices, PDS-supported clinicians and dentists across the country launched a new grassroots campaign, #DentalSAFETY. ADEA Supports Prioritization of COVID-19 Vaccine for Dental Community

Posted on Thursday, September 10, 2020

The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) is calling for members of the dental health care team, including dental and dental allied students providing patient care, to be among those health care workers to first receive any vaccine developed for COVID-19.

In comments submitted to a committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, ADEA voiced its support for a draft federal plan to prioritize distribution of a vaccine.

“ADEA concurs with The National Academies’ Committee on Equitable Allocation of Vaccine for the Novel Coronavirus recommendation that ‘high-risk workers in health care facilities,’ including clinicians, such as dentists and dental hygienists, need to be among the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccine,” ADEA stated in its comments, which were submitted by ADEA President and CEO Karen P. West, D.M.D., M.P.H.

“Additionally, ADEA supports the Committee’s recognition and inclusion of other members of the dental health care team, such as dental assistants, dental therapists and dental laboratory technicians.

“Furthermore, it should be noted that the dental and dental allied students as well as the medical and nursing students who are providing patient care in these same health care facilities are also at high risk and should be included in this definition.”

In her comments, Dr. West underscored the crucial role that oral health care plays in an individual’s overall well-being, noting that periodontal disease found in the oral cavity has been associated with several health conditions, including heart disease and diabetes. HIV also can be detected with saliva samples.

“All of these realities justify the Committee’s conclusion that oral health professionals are vitally important to primary care,” Dr. West wrote.

Additionally, Dr. West highlighted the fact that dental school clinics deliver dental care to the economically disadvantaged.

“It is essential to ensure that practicing educator clinicians, students, and staff of these dental academic school facilities and hospitals receive the vaccine to protect them from the elevated risk they face as they provide the much-needed dental care to those unable to afford private practice fees,” Dr. West wrote.

About ADEA: The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) is The Voice of Dental Education. Our mission is to lead and support the health professions community in preparing future-ready oral health professionals. Our members include all 78 U.S. and Canadian dental schools, more than 800 allied and advanced dental education programs, more than 50 corporations and approximately 18,000 individuals. Our activities encompass a wide range of research, advocacy, faculty development, meetings and communications, including the esteemed Journal of Dental Education®, as well as the dental school application services ADEA AADSAS®, ADEA PASS®, ADEA DHCAS® and ADEA CAAPID®.

ADA Practice Transitions Announces National Expansion in October

Posted on Thursday, September 10, 2020

The American Dental Association (ADA) is pleased to announce that the ADA Practice Transitions (ADAPT) program is expanding to serve dentists in all 50 states. Starting October 5, general dentists who wish to transition in or out of practice anywhere in the United States can create an ADAPT profile to begin the process of finding the right dentist or practice that aligns best with their personal and professional goals.

“Dentists all over the country have expressed interest in what ADA Practice Transitions is doing, and so we are happy to be able to expand nationally,” said Kirk Norbo, D.D.S., ADA Business Innovation Group board chair. “Whether you are looking to own a practice or retire, ADAPT provides the tools and support to help dentists achieve their goals, and we’re thrilled to extend these services to dentists across the country.”

ADAPT was developed after field research uncovered a need in the marketplace for dentists who want to connect for both employment opportunities, as well as to facilitate the transition of a practice from one owner to another. ADAPT can help dentists buy or sell a practice, hire an associate, or find an associateship.

When dentists work with ADAPT, they get:

Matches with dentists or practices that fit their practice philosophy

Step-by-step support from a dedicated ADA Advisor

Customized resources and help defining the right transition path

Significant cost savings compared to the current transition market

ADAPT helps:

Sellers find the right person to continue to care for their patients so they can retire with confidence

Owners hire associates who share a similar philosophy of care, ensuring a successful transition and continuity of care for patients

Buyers and associates find the practice that fits their criteria and helps achieve their goals“Part of the value of ADA Practice Transitions is its ability to use the platform to match dentists nationwide for those who are seeking to move to a different state,” said Dr. Norbo. We anticipate that over time, the ADA Practice Transitions platform and methodology will become the first choice for dentists seeking a transition.”

Starting September 9, dentists are encouraged to answer three quick questions to become an ADAPT Insider and receive early access to the platform, before the October 5 national opening.

ADAPT is hosting a free webinar titled, “Find Career Success with ADA Practice Transitions,” on September 21. Click here to register.

To learn more about ADAPT, visit ADAPracticeTransitions.com.
