exocad Insights Postponed Until September 21 and 22, 2020

Posted on Wednesday, March 4, 2020

Due to the spread of the Corona virus worldwide, exocad GmbH has decided after careful consideration to postpone the Insights 2020 event planned for mid-March. The new dates for the global CAD/CAM event are September 21 and 22, 2020. The venue remains unchanged at darmstadtium in Darmstadt. The cooperation partners of exocad Insights 2020 support this move.

The significant increase of Covid-19 cases in Europe this week has required a new assessment of the situation in close consultation with the participating industry partners. There are increasing travel restrictions for various countries, making it considerably more difficult for visitors to attend the event in Darmstadt. As it can be expected that within the next few weeks there will be further significant restrictions for major events, exocad has decided to postpone the event. This decision is also supported by the 43 cooperation partners.

"The safety and health of our participants, partners, and employees is our top priority. In view of current developments and the increased spread of the Corona virus, we have decided to postpone the global event exocad Insights until September," explains Novica Savic, CCO of exocad. The two-day event, which is aimed at both dental technicians and dentists, offers a varied program consisting of software education, partner sessions, and international guest speakers. Insights 2020 focuses on the almost limitless possibilities of exocad's open software platform, on which intraoral and model scanners, milling machines, 3D printers, and DVT devices from different manufacturers can be combined to form a consistent exocad digital workflow. Information about the current trends in the CAD/CAM industry can be obtained from the 43 international partner companies on site. An evening with dinner and live music will round off the event in the festive presence of the approximately 850 international participants. In coordination with darmstadtium, the 21st/22nd September has been chosen as the new dates for exocad Insights. All tickets remain valid for the new dates. Further information about the event, program, and ticket sales are available on exocad.com/insights.

Glidewell to Present 4th Annual Educational Symposium in Anaheim, California

Posted on Tuesday, March 3, 2020

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., March 3, 2020 (Newswire.com) - Glidewell, a leader in dental education and a technological innovator in restorative dentistry for 50 years, has announced the fourth annual Glidewell Symposium. Scheduled for Nov. 6–7, 2020, at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, the event will provide practical clinical education and business strategies designed to make an immediate difference in dental practices. Topics will cover all phases of general dentistry, from restorative techniques and materials to dental implants and tissue regeneration, in-office scanning and milling, dental sleep medicine, and practice management. Attendees will earn 12 hours of continuing education units.

“We are excited to bring the Glidewell Symposium to Southern California this year,” said Dr. Neil Park, scientific chair of the Glidewell Symposium and vice president of clinical affairs at Glidewell. “Building on the success of our previous events, we’re gathering more than 20 speakers — these are educators, thought leaders and practicing clinicians — to share their best practices and clinical insights. We’ll once again provide our unique two-day educational format that has proven to be very popular, while also presenting even more opportunities for attendees to explore the rewarding field of dentistry.”

On the first day of the symposium, the general session will feature a concise, powerful format, with inspiring presentations designed to offer solutions to the challenges of everyday dentistry. Keynotes will be presented by Dr. Gordon J. Christensen, renowned prosthodontist and cofounder of Gordon J. Christensen Clinicians Report®, and Dr. Jack Hahn, an implant-dentistry pioneer who has been placing and restoring implants for five decades. These recognized experts will share stories about their clinical research and wisdom gained as practicing dentists.

On the second day of the event, attendees can choose from several tracks for focused, in-depth lectures, and hone in on clinical information, tools and techniques to better serve their patients. In addition, following Saturday’s focused tracks, all attendees will be invited to the Glidewell Expo, a hosted barbecue and VIP party at the Glidewell campus in nearby Newport Beach. Free transportation will be provided, and the afternoon event will include hands-on educational programs, a tour of Glidewell’s Intelligent Manufacturing center, and a variety of other fun activities. On both days of the symposium, attendees will also be able to browse interactive exhibits featuring 3D printing, intraoral scanning, in-office milling, the CAD/CAM workflow, dental implants, and regenerative and restorative materials.

“We’re working around the clock to make the Glidewell Symposium bigger and better than ever before — with world-class clinical education, affordable tuition, a great location, and a memorable experience designed to fuel each attendee’s success for years to come,” said Dr. Park.

The 2020 Glidewell Symposium is for dentists, hygienists, and chairside and front-office staff. Tuition for both days is $325. Early bird pricing is available for $275 when registering by May 1, 2020. Tuition includes a complimentary breakfast, lunch and cocktail reception with hosted bar on Friday, as well as a complimentary breakfast and exciting afternoon programs, food and entertainment on Saturday. Because last year’s symposium was a sold-out event, attendees are encouraged to register early to secure their seats. Foundation for Endodontics Names First-Ever Research Fellow

Posted on Tuesday, March 3, 2020

The Foundation for Endodontics, the philanthropic arm of the American Association of Endodontists, announced Dr. Annie Shrestha, B.D.S., M.Sc., Ph.D., FRCD(C), assistant professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry, as the recipient of the Research Fellowship Award. The award is the first of its kind in the field of endodontic research and was made possible by Dentsply Sirona.

The Research Fellowship Award was developed in early 2019 in order to recruit and cultivate the next generation of endodontic clinician-scientists who will contribute to scholarship in endodontics and harness extramural resources to advance the specialty. The award emphasizes the value of formal and rigorous research training along with the importance of mentorship.

Dentsply Sirona agreed to partner with the Foundation and fund the first award, in which $250,000 is disbursed to Dr. Shrestha's institution over a five-year period, to support her project directly. In recognition of Dentsply Sirona's generous and enthusiastic partnership, Dr. Shrestha is termed the 2019 Dentsply Sirona Research Fellow.

Dr. Shrestha's research project entitled "Immune Dysbiosis in Diabetes and Apical Periodontitis – Role of Cell Microenvironment" explores the role of immune dysbiosis in adaptive immune cells in the development of apical periodontitis and increase understanding of how diabetes mellitus influences this process. As part of the Research Fellowship Award, Dr. Shrestha will submit an application for extramural grant funding to continue to develop her findings and make progress toward developing immuno-therapies in which specialized biomaterials may attract and activate adaptive immune cells in order to modulate healing of apical periodontitis in immunocompromised patients.

President of the Foundation Dr. Mary Pettiette believes supporting clinician-academicians has always been important to the Foundation: "We're proud to expand the funding opportunities available to endodontic researchers. Dentsply Sirona's generous support of the Research Fellowship demonstrates their commitment to advancing science in endodontics. They share in our desire for more governmental funding to be allocated toward endodontic research that focuses on pulpal diseases."

The Foundation hopes the new Research Fellowship Award will be a pipeline for junior faculty in endodontics to become impactful, independent investigators whose research advances science in the field of endodontics, and it feels strongly that Dr. Shrestha will help do this.

About the Foundation for Endodontics:

Founded in 1966 as the philanthropic arm of the American Association of Endodontists, the Foundation for Endodontics (a 501(c)3 charity) encourages and raises capital investment necessary to sustain and further develop the specialty. Over the years, both its mission and activities have evolved into four areas: research, education, outreach and development. By focusing on these four concentrations, we assist members of AAE in the pursuit of excellence in their field and further our vision to support endodontists in their efforts to save natural teeth whenever possible. Throughout its fundraising activities, initiatives and strategic planning, we uphold our core values: integrity, accountability, responsiveness, innovative, collaborative and impactful. In 2019, your Foundation for Endodontics has committed over $1.5 million to research, education, and access to care. The Foundation supports every accredited endodontic program in the United States and Canada, and offers funding to educators, residents, and departments. Posted on Tuesday, March 3, 2020

Leading DSO Pacific Dental Services (PDS®) is pleased to join the American Dental Assistants Association (ADAA) in honor of the 43rd annual Dental Assistants Recognition Week. Taking place March 1-7, this year’s theme, “A 20/20 Dental Assistant – Look Toward the Future,” acknowledges the growing importance of dentistry’s role in health care and the responsibilities of dental assistants. The weeklong event celebrates dental assistants (DAs) and their commitment to professional development and providing quality dental care.

“DAs in PDS-supported dental practices share a passion for delivering patient-centric dentistry to their communities and are committed to growing personally and professionally in their roles,” said Rosalinda Olague, Dental Board of California appointee and Manager of Dental Assistant National Strategy and School Relations at PDS. “Dental assistants understand that quality performance at every job, every day is required.”

According to The DALE Foundation®, an affiliate of the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc., dental assistants are the largest segment of the dental workforce. As noted in its national survey, more than 95% of dentists and dental office managers strongly agree that dental assistants contribute to a practice’s productivity and play a key role in preserving patient retention by building the bridge of trust between patients and clinicians.

“In honor of Dental Assistants Recognition Week, I want to acknowledge all the dental assistants in the United States for their hard work in serving patients, their dentists, and their teams,” said Stephen E. Thorne, IV, Founder & CEO at PDS. “Thank you for the extraordinary work you do to create Healthier, Happier Patients.®”

The ADAA is the oldest, largest group representing professional dental assistants. Its members include clinical personnel, those working chairside with the dentist, and administrative and back office staff. “By asking questions and helping patients identify what is important to them, DAs have the ability to support clinicians in delivering quality oral health care,” said Olague. “PDS’ dental assistants are masters in the art of first impressions. They are skilled in establishing trust with their patients by actively listening to their questions and concerns, which helps patients accept the dentist’s recommended treatment plans.”

3M Unveils New Ergonomic Syringe for Flowable Restoratives

Posted on Monday, March 2, 2020

Designed for enhanced comfort and easier injection, the improved dispenser provides better access while reducing bubbles and waste

Over the past few decades, flowable composites have transformed from the new material on the market to a mainstay product in dental clinics around the world. With benefits ranging from the ability to easily inject the material intraorally to creating an intimate adaptation between the tooth and the restoration, it’s no surprise that the popularity of flowable composites has continued to grow.

Although there are many advantages when using flowables, there are always ways to improve upon existing products. With this in mind, 3M continues to develop innovative solutions to alleviate pain points and is proud to introduce an improved version of the current flowable products featuring an entirely new syringe that is engineered specifically to improve both ease of use and overall comfort.

Both of 3M’s current flowable composite materials, 3M™ Filtek™ Supreme Flowable Restorative and 3M™ Filtek™ Bulk Fill Flowable Restorative, will now feature the improved syringe design in order to simplify placement. The new tip reduces both bubbles and waste by producing virtually no bubbles or material run-on during the dispensing process. It also allows for effortless access to the prep area with an easy- to-bend cannula that can be bent by hand without kinking.

The new syringe is also more ergonomic and user-friendly, featuring a triangle finger plate and larger plunger, making it easy to hold and inject while providing the ability to quickly personalize the grip. While the syringe is new and improved, the flowable materials remain as dependable as ever, providing the same benefits as always: excellent adaptation, polish retention and wear resistance.

“With the introduction of the new syringe design, our most popular flowable is now even easier to inject and more comfortable to use,” said Andrew Milder, Global Business Team Leader, Oral Care Direct Solutions, 3M. “3M understands the importance of providing dentists with the best of the best, which is why we are continuously improving our products to simplify their lives. 3M™ Filtek™ Flowable Restoratives are specifically designed to address the downsides associated with flowable materials while improving upon them to make great products even better.”

Both 3M Filtek Supreme Flowable Restorative and 3M Filtek Bulk Fill Restorative are versatile for a wide range of indications and techniques, including everything from Class III and V restorations to use as a base or liner under direct restorations. The materials adapt easily, seal the margin and are safe to warm*.
