Dentsply Sirona Restores Smiles and Confidence During Arizona Mission of Mercy Dental Mission Event

Posted on Tuesday, January 21, 2020

On December 13th and 14th, 2019, approximately 200 dentists and 1,300 assistants, hygienists and dental students volunteered to bring free dental treatment to patients in need during the annual AZ MOM program. This year, about 2,000 patients received dental treatments ranging from cleanings, fillings and extractions to endodontics and restorations. Many patients waited through the night to ensure they were among the first to receive treatment.

Dentsply Sirona supported this year’s program in partnership with Patterson Dental by setting up five treatment stations for CEREC single-visit dentistry. The five CEREC stations allowed 16 volunteer doctors, assisted by local registered dental assistants and 3rd- and 4th-year dental students, to efficiently process 125 crowns in two days.

Dentsply Sirona for Arizona Mission of Mercy

Jay Connors, General Manager of Patterson Dental, has been involved with the AZ MOM program for seven years and is a member of the advisory board of the Central Arizona Dental Society Foundation (CADS Foundation). “We partner with Dentsply Sirona each year to bring in two to three panoramic x-ray units that my service team sets up and uses for imaging. In addition, Patterson Dental is a CEREC training center and, in 2015, we added CEREC crowns to the AZ MOM event by installing four full CEREC stations. We added a fifth full unit this year, which allowed our volunteer CEREC dentists to complete more than a hundred CEREC restorations in two days! An amazing feat, thanks to Dentsply Sirona’s support and to all incredible volunteers,” said Connors.

To Connors and his team, the program means more than only providing free treatments: “The dental care our volunteers provide not only solves patients’ dental issues, but more importantly, helps them to regain their confidence and empowers them to smile again. When you are not in pain or embarrassed to smile, life is better. We are grateful to support this wonderful event where people’s lives are literally changed for the better.”

CEREC allows for single-visit restorations for 30 years

CEREC is Dentsply Sirona’s CAD/CAM innovative solution covering three different treatment areas:  restorations, orthodontics and implantology. For 30 years, CEREC has allowed dentists to perform chairside ceramic restorations in only a single patient visit. To achieve this, intraoral scanners such as the Omnicam or the Primescan are used to create precise digital impressions, even of the patient’s complete arch. The CEREC software analyzes the scan and uses it to calculate restoration suggestions that can then be modified by the dentist if needed. The CEREC software interacts with a CEREC production unit and the CEREC Speed fire to produce, strengthen, and glaze the new crown in no time.

Two opposites make a whole: A single composite for cementation and core build-up

Posted on Thursday, January 16, 2020

This has long been considered impossible, due to conflicting requirements. By means of patented Active-Connect-Technology (ACT), however, dental specialists Kettenbach Dental have succeeded in meeting the challenge without compromising the material. The result is the Visalys® CemCore system, which enables both adhesive cementation and core build-up to be achieved with just a few components. Interlinking brands and the business.

Cementation composites need to be as hydrophilic as possible and highly fluid, whereas core build-up requires a high degree of stability, and a material that swells as little as possible. Kettenbach Dental has now developed a groundbreaking technology that simply eliminates the conflicts: Active-Connect-Technology allows optimal mixing of the somewhat hydrophobic cementation composite, Visalys® CemCore, with the hydrophilic Visalys® Tooth Primer, on the damp surface of the tooth.

Despite its hydrophobic properties, the innovative composite achieves a high adhesive strength without swelling. Visalys® CemCore flows superbly into every clearance, and yet displays a high degree of stability: gentle application of pressure ensures the degree of flow required when carrying out restoration, for example. Release the pressure, and Visalys® CemCore reverts to its firm consistency so that excess material does not expand and is easy to remove after application.

The Visalys® CemCore system incorporates three basic components: the composite cement after which it is named, one single-component primer for teeth and another for restoration. It is exceptionally convenient to use and can be tailored to the application: Visalys® CemCore is available in a convenient and easy to use 5ml dual chambered syringe. The range of five different colors [Universal (A2/A3), Translucent, Bleach, Opaque and Dark (A4)] ensures an excellent basis for the aesthetic outcome. For securing restorations where outstanding aesthetics are demanded, additional color-matched try-in pastes are available where required. The Tooth Primer can be applied direct to dentine or enamel without mixing, and the Restorative Primer is suitable for pre-treatment of all restoration surfaces.

This makes the Visalys® CemCore system suitable both for cementation and also for core build-up using a single composite – the Active-Connect-Technology ensures powerful adhesion with Visalys® Tooth Primer and Visalys® Restorative Primer, while low liquid absorption ensures a high degree of dimensional stability in the core build-up and hence a reduced risk of fracture in the final restoration. Visalys® CemCore is available to try in Universal (A2/A3) color with a starter pack, which includes not only the Visalys® CemCore but also Visalys® Tooth Primer and Visalys® Restorative Primer, along with the required accessories. Free Dental Care for Domestic Violence Victims

Posted on Wednesday, January 15, 2020

The National Violence Against Women Survey estimates that more than 5 million women are affected by domestic violence each year. The violence results in nearly $4.1 billion in health care costs. This is why Tokuyama Dental America, a dental manufacturer headquartered in Encinitas, California is partnered with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation’s (AACDCF) Give Back a Smile program.

Give Back a Smile provides free dental care to adult women and men who have suffered dental injuries from domestic and sexual violence. Give Back a Smile volunteer dentists completely donate their time and services to restoring smiles. To date, Tokuyama Dental America has donated more than $86,000 in dental products to Give Back a Smile, including products from its esthetic composite, Estelite Omega, line that has enabled Give Back a Smile volunteer dentists to provide high-quality dental care to victims of violence.

Give Back a Smile’s services are life changing. One patient shared her abuser beat her in the face with a shovel, leaving her with only three teeth left in her mouth. She was left in five feet of snow in the middle of nowhere after the incident. In order to hold her hostage, her abuser took away her dentures so she couldn’t leave the house. He knew if her physical appearance was damaged, she wouldn’t go anywhere or reach out to anyone. The victim reached out to Give Back a Smile and was able to get back her smile and freedom.

Since Give Back a Smile’s 1999 inception, the program has restored more than 1,800 smiles and delivered more than $16 million dollars in treatment. By helping victims restore their smiles, Give Back a Smile is healing some of the most devastating effects of violence these victims endured and is supporting them on their road to recovery.

Sterngold Releases 2020 Digital Denture Course Schedule

Posted on Wednesday, January 15, 2020

Sterngold has released its highly anticipated 2020 Digital Denture course schedule. These upcoming CE-credited courses will provide valuable insights and strategies that will teach how to create a more automated, efficient, and predictable digital denture solution through scanning, case design, final case milling, and delivery. This course will examine the compatible equipment and software required for digital dentures while offering a first-hand look at digital case planning from beginning to end.

The primary theme in today’s dental laboratory landscape is competitiveness. How does a lab stay competitive and ensure continued growth amidst a seemingly shrinking business segment? One of the answers is going digital. Digital dentures can set the lab business into a growth trajectory by helping lab owners exceed their clinician’s, and in turn, the patient’s expectations. More importantly, by discovering how efficient a digital denture workflow is, laboratory owners will exceed their own expectations of what their business is capable of delivering and earning.

All courses will be held at Sterngold headquarters in Attleboro, Massachusetts.

2020 Digital Denture Course Dates:

• March 20-21, 2020

• April 24-25, 2020

• September 25-26, 2020

• November 13-14, 2020

To register or learn more, visit sterngold.com/courses or call 800-243-9942.
