Carestream Dental Announces New Integration with TDO

Posted on Wednesday, April 10, 2019

Endodontists know that even the smallest details matter, like the number of clicks it takes to navigate their software and take a 3D scan. Carestream Dental is now handling the minutiae of imaging workflow with a new integration between TDO 12 Software and its CS 9600 CBCT system—so endodontists can focus on their patients’ intricate canal morphology.

This unique integration allows TDO users to acquire CS 9600 scans directly from within the TDO platform, with no need to launch their CS Imaging software. This reduces the need for complicated software bridges or the risk of human error that comes with simultaneously managing multiple software platforms on one screen.

“Besides streamlining the imaging capturing process, this integration also allows endodontists to take advantage of TDO’s contemporaneous reporting features in the software’s Imaging Organizer,” Jordan Reiss, sales director, ENT and 3D imaging, Carestream Dental, said.

“We are happy to announce that our integration with the CS 9600 is now available for offices using TDO™ Software,” Luiz Motta, general manager of TDO Software, Inc., said. “As we are always looking to offer new and improved services for our users, we have extended our existing CBCT integration to support the CS 9600 and its additional functionalities including the CS MAR technology.”

Launched in late 2018, the CS 9600 offers exceptional CBCT scanning, along with 3D facial scanning, 3D model/impression scanning and even extraoral bitewings to deliver exceptional image quality. Multiple fields of view, as small as 4 cm x 4 cm, give doctors an unrivaled look at tooth anatomy, from all angles. The system also offers a new 8 cm (height) by 5 cm diameter, which can be used for diagnosis of pain radiating to a quadrant that cannot be localized to either the maxilla or mandible.

The system’s 120 kV high-power generator can acquire images at a dose equivalent to the standard 90 kV acquisition, while increasing image quality. In fact, the system’s HR mode captures highly detailed images, ideal for endodontics, with a 75µ resolution available on all FOV ranging from 4 cm x 4 cm to 10 cm x 10 cm.

Once a scan is captured, the CS 9600’s exclusive CS MAR technology* further enhances images. This high-end metal artifact reduction algorithm reduces the scatter that can be caused by metal, such as implants. This feature is unique to the CS 9600 as this tool allows doctors to do a “live comparison” of the dataset with, and without, MAR filter in real time to analyze the region of interest for a more accurate diagnosis.

TDO already integrates with Carestream Dental’s RVG 6200 sensor, the CS 8100 3D and CS 9300 CBCT systems and the CS 1500 intraoral camera.

To learn more about the CS 9600, how Carestream Dental supports endodontists or any of the company’s innovative solutions, visit booth #706 at the AAE’s 2019 Annual Session, or visit carestreamdental.com.

The American Association of Endodontists Debuts Consumer Engagement Campaign: ‘Worth Saving’

Posted on Tuesday, April 9, 2019

During the American Association of Endodontists’ annual meeting known as AAE19 occurring in Montréal this April, the Association’s Public and Professional Relations Committee will be debuting their recent, multi-layered ad campaign called “Worth Saving”.

“Worth Saving” was created and is currently being implemented by the AAE to help the public realize the importance of saving their natural teeth and to seek treatment from endodontists as their first choice for oral health care.

The initiative is made up of social media, earned press, promotion through AAE’s thousands of members and other direct consumer engagement activities. Additionally, the AAE formed a collection of search engine advertising, sponsored social media posts and online display advertising. AAE is also using grassroots activation through member outreach, a series of videos, surveys and call-outs on Twitter.

People who click on the advertisements and social media posts will be sent to the AAE’s helpful Find My Endodontist online search tool, which allows patients to easily find an endodontist based on distance and office locations. The AAE Board of Directors prioritized the ongoing initiative in its Strategic Plan.

They will be unveiling their initiative during their session meeting called “AAE Consumer Campaign: Making Endodontists Part of a Bigger Conversation” on Saturday, April 13. The PPRC will provide a deeper understanding of the initiative’s goals, core targeted audience, and share ideas about how endodontists can broaden the engagement’s themes to help increase awareness about the dental specialty. Additionally, the gathering will touch upon the AAE’s “Save Your Tooth Month”, a creative monthlong awareness campaign happening in May

The session will also provide a closer examination of the various phases involved or currently being executed, which include data-based research analysis and survey activation, videos featuring “savers” in various professions and a competition involving landmarks.

The organization’s first accredited event will take place on April 10th, 2019, at UCLA, where its IsraAID Humanitarian Professionals Network (IHPN) program is presenting a talk entitled “WASH Humanitarian Missions: Best Practices Defined.”

“We are pleased to support IsraAID’s efforts to expand access to oral health care for the men, women, and children most in need,” said Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Henry Schein, Inc. “To that end, we have taken several steps to expand access to care for vulnerable populations in the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya, including supporting the volunteer health care professionals who provide critical dental care to this community. We encourage our professional partners to learn more about how they can meaningfully engage with disaster relief efforts through educational programs like this one offered by IsraAID.”

“I am very excited about this partnership,” said Rada Sumareva, DDS, Founder of the Russian American Dental Association. “I feel it is really important to encourage and enable dental professional to be global citizens, use their skills set to make a difference and build bridges amongst people.”

IsraAID’s IHPN group is coordinating that trip as well.  Pacific Dental Services (PDS®), a leading dental support organization (DSO) that provides business and administrative support services for dental practices, recognizes World Health Day, the international campaign that raises awareness of the need to improve global health. Founded in 1948, World Health Day marks the anniversary of the World Health Organization.

“Pacific Dental Services is proud to support World Health Day,” said Stephen E. Thorne, IV, CEO and Founder of Pacific Dental Services. “PDS-supported dental practices are committed to bringing awareness to patients about the link between oral health and whole-body health – what PDS and its supported practices call the Mouth-Body Connection®. Our primary purpose is to support clinicians and their individual dental practices to make their patients healthier and happier.”

PDS continuously raises the bar in its support of dental offices, with each practice providing patients with comprehensive dentistry, including CEREC® CAD/CAM same-day crowns, scaling and root planing, restorations, extractions, and digital x-rays. At the heart of PDS is its foundational culture of service. “Service is at the core of who we are as an organization. Ivoclar Vivadent CEO Robert Ganley Receives Excellence in Health Care Award

Posted on Friday, April 5, 2019

Ivoclar Vivadent congratulates Robert A. Ganley, CEO, for being honored with the Excellence in Health Care Award. Presented by Business First of Buffalo late last month at a special ceremony in downtown Buffalo, New York, the 2019 Excellence in Health Care Award recognizes Ganley as being among the top men and women in the Western New York healthcare industry. Other award honorees include physicians, nurses, administrators, board members, advocates, and researchers whose work has improved how the health system works in Western New York hospitals, laboratories, clinics, nonprofits, and health facilities.

"Being acknowledged as a health care leader within the Western New York community is a wonderful honor," said Ganley.  "I extend my congratulations and thanks to the other award recipients for their heroic achievements, high standards of patient care, and dedication to improving the health and wellness of our region."

During his tenure with Ivoclar Vivadent, Ganley has made many significant contributions to dentistry, and many industry experts credit Ganley with "Changing the Face of Dentistry" when the organization launched IPS Empress in the early 1990s. Coining the phrase "The Esthetic Revolution,” Ganley introduced a promise for better dentistry, greater patient satisfaction, and more creativity for dental professionals; this concept re-invigorated dental professionals and ushered in a new era in esthetic restorative dentistry. Ganley later pushed the envelope for stronger and less-invasive dental materials, such as IPS e.max – the world's most studied and clinically proven all-ceramic restorative material. Today, more than 150 million IPS e.max restorations have been placed worldwide, making IPS e.max the standard of care for restorative dentistry.

Ganley’s initiatives have also involved giving back by supporting dental associations and their foundations. Over the last decade, Ivoclar Vivadent has donated millions of dollars to dental associations and not-for-profit outreach efforts, including the American College of Prosthodontics and the National Association of Dental Laboratories (NADL).  Just this past year, Ivoclar Vivadent supported the NADL Foundation by donating a Harley-Davidson softail classic motorcycle for the "Spirit of the Esthetic Revolution" fundraising campaign; this effort raised more than $15,000 for the NADL Foundation scholarship and grants program.

Ganley has also remained steadfast in the organization's global commitment to providing underserved populations with access to oral health care. From product donations to special initiatives—including Give Kids a Smile Day, the Wisdom Tooth Project, and missionary service groups—Ivoclar Vivadent has touched the lives of tens of thousands of patients worldwide.

"We try to educate and improve the oral health care of others whenever we possibly can," said Ganley.

A 39-year veteran of Ivoclar Vivadent, Ganley will be retiring in July. However, he will remain active with the organization as a member of its Supervisory Board.
