Introducing Dentistry.com – A Free, Easy-To-Use Service That Helps Practices Keep Their Schedules Full

Posted on Friday, November 16, 2018

Created with practice management professionals in mind, the free online community is dedicated to improving dental practice production by increasing the number of new patients who go to the dentist and accept treatment.

Positioned as ‘The New Patient Destination for Dentistry,’ Dentistry.com’s main purpose is to maximize practice production by building stronger relationships between dentists and patients. It features a search engine for patients that supports filtering by a number of criteria, including insurance network – one of the top ways patients choose a dentist. Additionally, the site offers a comprehensive directory of dental practices across the country and provides patients with the ability to schedule appointments online.

The website capitalizes on the shift of consumers to making booking decisions based on consumer reviews and the ability to make an appointment online. "People live and conduct all their business on their phones today. Dentistry is challenged because it has not embraced this new mobile-centric reality. Complicating things is the fact that consumers don't value dentistry as they do more trendy healthcare pursuits like yoga and meditation," said Brian McCarthy, Executive Vice President of Dentsply Sirona's subsidiary Futuredontics and leader of the Dentistry.com project team. "Dentistry.com is the online destination where the industry can band together to elevate the perception of dentistry to its proper place in healthcare."

Practice management professionals are invited to claim their dentist’s profile for free on Dentistry.com’s directory of dental practices. Practice managers can manage their dentist’s page on the site where they can list information about their staff, their practice, and other relevant information that would assist patients regarding their search. Dentistry.com’s time-saving ”set it and forget it” design is so easy to use that practice profiles can completed and “live” in just five minutes.

Dentistry.com offers access to national and local audiences, improves website SEO, and helps dentists connect with more new patients by listing services, insurance plans, business hours and more. Most importantly, the site enables patients to schedule appointments online which is a proven way to keep practice schedules full.

In the near future, Dentistry.com will roll out more features, including treatment plan acceptance tools and enhanced practice profiles. For more info, please visit www.dentistry.com or go to Claim My Practice to complete a free profile.

Seamless Workflow with vhf Z4 and exocad ChairsideCAD

Posted on Friday, November 16, 2018

vhf has developed the Z4 for the demanding requirements of prosthetic same-day restorations. Behind the futuristic housing is a high-precision milling and grinding machine for wet processing of blocks. It fabricates restorations from glass-ceramic, PMMA, zirconium oxide, composites, and prefabricated titanium abutments within minutes. With the tool-free block changer, the material block is easily mounted and can be changed in a matter of seconds. Other user-friendly innovations are the integrated PC and touchscreen for convenient workflow control. The machine is also extremely quiet. Further features include integrated compressed air and a self-opening working area door.

Björn Höppe, Head of Product at vhf, sums up another decisive advantage of the Z4: “One of our basic principles at vhf is the openness of our machines to material and software: The milling machines work with numerous CAD systems, such as exocad. With the Z4, the user is optimally prepared for the digitization of dental impressions such as same-day applications.”

Same-day restorations are a growing part of dentistry. Tillmann Steinbrecher, exocad CEO, points out that “patients are requesting it – and meeting this demand results in new challenges for dentists and labs alike. Our goal is to provide technology in cooperation with our partners that helps both clinicians and lab technicians take full advantage of digital processes – as collaborators, not competitors.”

At exocad Insights, the ChairsideCAD workflow will be presented using an iTero scanner and the Z4. With its international event for dental technicians and dentists, the software company presents the latest developments and countless possibilities of digital procedures, together with 24 partner companies. Here, top experts and specialists in the field of digital workflow present various software solutions – for everything from scanning to digital design and manufacturing.

School of Dentistry Adds New Technology for Restorations

Posted on Friday, November 16, 2018

The Loma Linda University School of Dentistry (LLUSD) has added the Ivoclar ProgaMill 7 (PM7)—one of the most advanced digital dentistry production machines—to its dental laboratory. This addition helps prepare dental students to be leaders in their profession because of their advanced knowledge of computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM).

Within the past decade, digital dentistry has changed the way dentists and dental technicians create dental restorations—restoring the function, integrity, and morphology of missing teeth and tooth structures with items such as bridges, crowns, or even veneers. Part of that evolution included using CAD/CAM, which allows dentists to digitally design restorations with software and manufacture them with the use of mills.

The PM7 is a mill that takes a digital design of patients’ teeth that were created by dental technicians and then robotically creates them through subtractive manufacturing. It is one of the most recent advancements in mill machinery because of its ability to create a wide range of restorations using a large variety of materials.

Jessica Kim, DDS, director of the Hugh Love Center for Research and Education in Technology at the School of Dentistry, says she was a part of the team of administrators, faculty, and technicians who identified what students needed to know to be successful in private practice and collaboratively worked to acquire this new technology for the school.

“We are right up there with the latest technology,” Kim said. “As state-of-the-art technology comes out, we are engaging with it, acquiring it, and developing best practices to teach it. This new technology will allow our students to be on par with the vision of the future for dentistry.”

Kim says many current practitioners have yet to learn the latest advanced technology and most dentists are currently using pre-CAD/CAM methodology. Before digital dentistry, for patients needing restorations such as crowns or dentures, dentists would make an impression in a patient’s mouth and then send the case to the lab for a technician to pour a plaster-type material into it to create a working model.

The use of CAD/CAM greatly diminishes the need for that laborious task and inserts digital technology. For example, if a dentist shaved down a patient’s tooth to make room for a crown, a dentist can now use a wand to scan the mouth instead of having to create the mold in the mouth manually. Now, an image is sent to a computer where a technician uses software to digitally build the tooth back up.

Once the creation is completed, the digital image file is then sent to a milling machine, such as the PM7. The robotic arms of the machine will then mill or carve out the image it received. The PM7 mill can make dental implant crowns, inlays, onlays, veneers, partial crowns, crowns, bridges, hybrid bridges, and digital complete dentures.

John Won, DDS, MS, a prosthodontist and the Head of the Division of General Dentistry at the School of Dentistry said allowing students to get hands-on experience with some of the latest technology allows them to be more competitive in the profession. Won says CAD-CAM technology and digital dentistry are growing, and many practitioners would be thrilled to bring on talent who know how to use it.

“We want them to go out and be leaders,” Won said. “We want our students to be able to go out there and immediately have marketable skills and help practices transition from traditional methods to modern digital dentistry.”

This new technology will also allow dentists treating the community a more efficient chair-side experience. For more information about the School of Dentistry, you can visit their website or schedule an appointment by calling 909-558-4960.
