ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 24, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The 45th Annual Session of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) will be held in Orlando from Oct. 21-24, 2015. More than 1,200 will gather to hear leaders in oral health present critical and rapidly advancing technology that's impacting the profession, cutting edge science, lessons learned, and making big innovations in the specialty as a whole. Speakers from around the world will discuss topics including the latest research and strategies, treatment approaches and practical applications being used to improve patient outcomes.
"The 45th Annual Session is the crown jewel of the college," said ACP President Frank J. Tuminelli, DMD, FACP. "Original research will be presented on the podium during the Thursday and Friday scientific sessions -- some new and perhaps surprising."
"It is a time to invigorate intellectual curiosity, share camaraderie, science and debate, and rekindle friendships old and new – all under the umbrella of our specialty and our shared quest to improve patient outcomes," added Jonathan Zamzok, DMD, FACP, (pictured) who is the Program Chair of the 45th Annual Session of the ACP.
Prosthodontists screen for and diagnose patients' oral health issues to determine the best treatment options. With three to four years of advanced training. Prosthodontists lead and unite multidisciplinary dental care teams, working to help patients gain a healthy mouth, beautiful smile and teeth that last and function properly. Informed patients opt to go to a dental specialist – such as a prosthodontist - for optimal care.
"The Annual Session of the ACP brings us back to the core of what and who prosthodontists are, with our passion for pushing the envelope forward to deliver optimal oral health solutions for all patients," Dr. Tuminelli said. "It's an opportunity as specialists to thoughtfully and scientifically re-consider 'the way it's always been done' in dentistry."
"As a Prosthodontist, I know that patients benefit when we consider rapid advancements, new science, share what works (or not) in real life – not just in the lab. Debate often leads to surprising science that we can bring back to our local practices," Dr. Zamzok said.
In addition, 'Controversies in Prosthodontics' will question and challenge what is thought of as 'conventional wisdom' in dentistry to ensure it's still state of the art science – and the results and discussion may be surprising to attendees. 'A Skeptic's Guide to Clinical Protocols' will question if age-old protocols are still necessary or whether these protocols can't be improved upon today?
At this premier annual prosthodontic event, speakers will share new techniques and innovative approaches being used. Clinicians and researchers will present the most current research, discussing trailblazing technology in digital dentistry and alternative therapies in treatments. Topics will cover critical decision-making in patient care, how the latest concepts are enhancing care and debates within the profession about treatment planning, treatment and prognosis.
Prosthodontists are specialized dentists with advanced training in oral health issues, who are committed to improving patient outcomes. From implants, crowns, veneers and tooth whitening, to full-mouth reconstruction, prosthodontists specialize in esthetic dentistry, digital dentistry, and sleep apnea solutions.
The ACP is the only prosthodontic specialty organization whose membership is based solely on education credentials. ACP members must be in or have completed an ADA-accredited advanced education program in prosthodontics.
