Henry Schein Honored as Major Benefactor of Tel Aviv University’s New Post-Graduate Dental Clinics

Posted on Tuesday, December 16, 2014

MELVILLE, N.Y., December 16, 2014 –Henry Schein, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSIC), the world’s largest provider of health care products and services to office-based dental, animal health and medical practitioners, was recognized by American Friends of Tel Aviv University (AFTAU) and the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity for its donation of state-of-the-art equipment and technology to Tel Aviv University’s School of Dental Medicine’s Post-Graduate dental clinics. The clinics will function as a comprehensive oral care center, servicing disadvantaged and special needs patients, and train future dental professionals in Israel.

Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Henry Schein, accepted the honor on behalf of Henry Schein at AFTAU’s “Celebration of Generosity” dinner gala held recently at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City. The gala honored supporters of the campaign to fund the establishment of The Rothstein-Williamowsky Post-Graduate Clinics at the Maurice and Gabriela Goldschleger School of Dental Medicine at Tel Aviv University’s School of Dental Medicine. Mr. Bergman was joined by leading dental professionals, educators and private industry representatives, as well as other Team Schein Members, at the celebratory gala. The event was hosted by the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity, the world’s oldest international dental organization, and AFTAU, a not-for-profit organization committed to supporting higher education in Israel and elsewhere.

“On behalf of more than 17,000 Team Schein Members, thank you for this wonderful recognition,” said Mr. Bergman. “Our philosophy for Henry Schein Cares is to ‘help health happen’ by enhancing access to health care for the underserved. Our work to help build the capacity of The Rothstein-Williamowsky Post-Graduate Clinics provides us with a wonderful opportunity to enhance access to care for the underserved in Israel and to support the education of the next generation of highly trained health professionals.”

The Post-Graduate Clinics will feature a broad array of clinical rooms and operatories, including dental treatment rooms; child recovery rooms; a general anesthesia theatre; advanced restorative, oral psychophysiology, periodontology and endodontology units; an advanced technical laboratory; and a technical minilab. The Post-Graduate Clinics were named after the late Ralph Burton Rothstein, a Washington D.C.-based philanthropist and champion for oral health, and his long-time collaborator and friend, Dr. Ben Williamowsky, a retired private dental practitioner and former President of the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity.

“We owe a great deal to Mr. Rothstein and Dr. Williamowsky,” said Dr. D. Walter Cohen, former Dean of the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Dental Medicine; Chancellor Emeritus, Drexel University College of Medicine; and a major benefactor of the Post-Graduate Clinics. “Both men’s unflagging support of Tel Aviv University’s School of Dental Medicine and their commitment to philanthropy and dental leadership has resulted in a robust and flourishing dental school. The addition of these clinics makes the school even more robust, and will continue to build upon the decades of time and energy that Mr. Rothstein and Dr. Williamowsky have committed to the school.”
