Fox Business Network Looks to NSK Dental for the Future of Dentistry

Posted on Monday, October 13, 2014

BOCA RATON, FL – Oct. 13, 2014--In an upcoming in-depth look at new age dental technology, Eiichi Nakanishi, president and CEO of Kanuma, Japan-based NSK Dental, discusses his strategic outlook for the company. In addition, 21st Century Television host Jackie Bales interviews Rob Gochoel, Director of Sales and Marketing for NSK’s Hoffman Estates, Illinois-based U.S. operations, about the company’s customer-focused product innovation. The program will air on the Fox Business Network at 11:30 am ET on Sunday, October 26, 2014. Check your local listings for channel information.

NSK Dental was founded in 1930 by Mr. Nakanishi’s grandfather, a Japanese inventor who saw the value in developing high-quality precision tools incorporating cutting edge technology. At a time when technology was still very new, he had the vision to see beyond the present and anticipate what it could mean for the dental industry.

According to Mr. Gochoel, the employees of NSK Dental work hard to achieve their corporate mission by contributing to the health and well-being of their customers with affordable, high-quality products. He also stated that NSK’s goal is to deliver innovative products that set the standard for positive change in the industry, and that the company’ primary concern is with the welfare of the dental professionals who use these products, and with the patients of these professionals. He noted that NSK has made substantial improvements in their production facilities over the past few years, and now has over 150 computer-operated machines and an extensive testing facility. He added that 90% of NSK’s production was now done "in house," which helps ensure the exceptional quality of their operations.

The program focuses on one of the biggest challenges in modern dentistry: the fact that people who want to save money due to the present economy often make dental visits one of the first things they cut. NSK is striving to address that challenge by offering cutting-edge products that offer both patients and the modern dental practitioner state-of-the-art tools of the trade that enhance productivity.

While NSK Dental is currently the world's largest manufacturer of modern dental hand-pieces, it is not currently number one in the U.S. The company hopes to change that by informing U.S. based dental professionals about how its products can enhance their practice and their patient care.

The show also reviews the instruments created by NSK Dental and lets viewers examine them up close to see how they have been engineered to be the best drills in the dental industry. NSK Dental prides itself on an inventive culture that allowed it to develop the first 45 degree angled head and the first 2-way spray function in the innovative drill known as the "T1-Max Z."

JL Haber, Vice President of Programming for 21st Century Television states, "This program reveals the cutting edge technology behind the scenes by a brilliant Japanese company, NSK Dental, which promises to revolutionize the dental industry and improve quality dental care for years to come. We’re excited to have them join us on 21st Century Television"

To learn more about NSK Dental please tune in to Fox Business Network on Oct. 26, 2014. Check your local listings for channel information. For more information about NSK Dental, visit www.nskdental.com

American Dental Hygienists’ Association Celebrates National Brush Day

Posted on Friday, October 31, 2014

Chicago (Oct. 31, 2014) — As a proud partner in The Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) is encouraging parents to continue to take an active role in improving the oral health of their children by celebrating National Brush Day on Nov. 1, 2014. And with so many children participating in Halloween activities today, the ADHA and Kids’ Healthy Mouths campaign want to reiterate the importance of brushing teeth for two minutes, twice a day, every day.

“Instilling good oral health care habits — such as brushing teeth twice a day, for two minutes a day each day — is critical to ensuring good oral and overall health,” said ADHA President Kelli Swanson Jaecks, MA, RDH. “By teaching children the importance of these habits, getting involved early and demonstrating to them the value of good oral hygiene through initiatives such as National Brush Day and the Kids’ Healthy Mouths campaign, parents can help their children for a lifetime. The ADHA is proud to be involved and support this initiative, and urges all parents to celebrate National Brush Day with their children — and make each day a ‘brush day’ twice a day for their kids and themselves.”

National Brush Day is an ongoing initiative celebrated on Nov. 1 on behalf of the Kids' Healthy Mouths campaign, which was initially launched by The Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives and the Ad Council in August 2012. Kids' Healthy Mouths recently announced a new series of PSAs that feature humorous depictions of life lessons to make the point that while parenting can be tricky at times, getting kids to brush for two minutes, twice a day can be easier than many other things parents will try to teach their children.

To take part in National Brush Day, parents and caregivers can join the Kids' Healthy Mouths communities and share new campaign images on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/kidshealthymouths) and Twitter (@brush2min2x). In addition to an extensive public relations and social media campaign, Kids' Healthy Mouths is kicking off its first video contest. The contest will encourage amateur and professional video makers to create videos showing how difficult it is to teach a child something if a parent only has two minutes, leveraging the campaign strategy and using the hashtag #BrushRules. Parents also can visit the campaign’s website, 2min2x.org, where parents and children can watch entertaining videos all two minutes in length while brushing their teeth. The ADHA also will share posts and information about the campaign on its Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/youradha) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/ADHADOTORG) feeds.

CDC Data Shows Early Childhood Caries Trending Down

Posted on Thursday, October 30, 2014

CHICAGOOct. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Dental Association (ADA) is encouraged that preliminary data presented at the "Innovations in the Prevention and Treatment of Early Childhood Caries" conference on October 23 shows a downward trend in early childhood caries (cavities) in the United States and indicates progress in ensuring that kids are getting needed dental treatment.

"This preliminary analysis may indicate a promising trend.  We are encouraged that it shows far less untreated tooth decay in children, with dentists providing needed treatment," says ADA President Dr. Maxine Feinberg. "Dental Medicaid visits have been increasing and more kids are seeing the dentist.  Now, we must stay the course, building on that momentum to continue making an impact for children, and expand efforts to prevent dental disease before it starts."

Preliminary unpublished data shared by Centers for Disease Control's Dr. Bruce Dye suggests a decade-long trend of increased treatment of caries (cavities) in preschool children, suggesting a clear shift in untreated dental disease in the U.S. among 2- to 5-year olds toward more restored dental surfaces for all 20 primary teeth.  The analysis is based on a review of 2011-2012 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) longitudinal health data from the CDC and a representative sample of the U.S. population. It was presented in advance of expected CDC publication of the full range of data covering 2011 through 2014 next year and should be viewed as a preliminary analysis.

While we await the full data analysis, continuing to align and promote efforts that contribute to reducing untreated dental disease is critical.  Through the ADA's Action for Dental Health, dentists across the country are delivering dental health education and disease prevention to communities, fighting for increased dental health protections under Medicaid and providing care now to people suffering from untreated dental disease.  For example, according to research from ADA's Health Policy Institute, from 2000 to 2010 dental care utilization among low-income children increased in 47 states and the continued expansion was primarily due to Medicaid and State Children's Health Insurance Programs (SCHIP), which mandate dental benefits for children. Also, ADA's Community Dental Health Coordinators (CDHCs) are helping people connect to dental public health resources in their communities and dentists who can provide needed treatment.

"Dental access, prevention and care initiatives are making a positive difference in dental health for patients and the ADA is committed to continuing to support and promote increased alignment of efforts and partnering to better fuel the momentum," Dr. Feinberg said.

30th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Osseointegration to be Held in March

Posted on Wednesday, October 22, 2014

CHICAGO, October 15, 2014, The theme of this year's 30th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Osseointegration (AO) is, “Science, Collaboration and Clinical Excellence for 30 Years.” Scheduled for March 12-14, 2015, the event will be held at the Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco.

This event is dedicated to advancements and continuing education in the field of dentistry. Featuring some of the world’s most notable figures in implant dentistry, dental professionals from near and far are invited to join this intense three-day learning session. Click here to view the meeting schedule.

This year’s top new features are “Morning with the Masters,” a daybreak education session with the industry’s leading clinicians; an English-speaking symposium featuring prominent figures from South Korea; and an AO-member research display, that will appear on flat-screen monitors instead of cardboard and paper. Follow AO on Facebook and Twitter to learn more.

Headlining the event is facial plastic surgeon, Daniel Alam, MD--a member of the multi-disciplinary team of doctors and surgeons at the Cleveland Clinic and the first doctor to perform a near-total face transplant in the United States. His speech will focus on the power of a work team in restoring a patient’s physical and psychological health after surgery. By emphasizing each member’s contribution to a patient’s well-being, he will highlight the importance of different disciplines weaving together to support a patient’s medical, surgical and emotional needs during recovery.

In support of this message, AO assembled an international group of clinicians who will demonstrate Dr. Alam’s approach in relation to implant dentistry and delivering superior surgical and restorative care. Accordingly, the Allied Staff Educational Sessions have now been named the TEAM Program. Experts will later summarize what the Academy has learned over 30 years, suggesting possible solutions to the obstacles that challenge implant dentistry.

“We continue to explore and add innovative features to ensure this event is fresh, engaging and educational for researchers and clinicians in implant dentistry and tissue engineering,” said Joseph Gian-Grasso, DMD, president of the Academy of Osseointegration. “We’re confident that all of our attendees – no matter where they are in their career – will enjoy a truly memorable experience and take home knowledge that they can begin applying at their practices Monday morning.”

This conference offers numerous opportunities to network and socialize, including at the President’s Reception, a time-honored event sponsored by DENTSPLY Implants. This complimentary event will be held at the Exploratorium – a museum with eye opening exhibits, tools, and projects for attendees for enjoy. Food will be served at a variety of stations throughout the venue, with live entertainment to brighten the atmosphere.

The conference will conclude with an Interactive Session called “Putting it All Together: Two Missing Adjacent Teeth in the Esthetic Zone: Options for Treatment.” This invites attendees to participate by voting on keypads and discussing treatment options for presented cases. A panel of experts, led by Maurizio Tonetti, DMD, PhD; Paul Rosen, DMD, MS; Kenneth Hinds, DDS, and others, will also debate the options.

“When the Annual Event concludes, attendees will return home reinvigorated and excited about their profession as well as the power of collaboration to advance the art and science of dental implant therapy,” said Donald Clem III, DDS, Chair of the 2014 Annual Meeting. “Ultimately, patient safety and benefit must be based on sound evidence—that’s what the Academy is all about and our Annual Meeting will be, too.”
