BasicBites™ Soft Chews Support Healthy Teeth After Halloween Treats

Posted on Friday, October 31, 2014

ROSLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y., Oct. 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- As Halloween nears, children will once again flood the streets in pursuit of sugary treats. Yet, as they rejoice with satisfaction, these sugary confections can disrupt their oral equilibrium. "Trick or Treating" can be a thrill for kids, but a scary thought for parents worried about their children's teeth. New BasicBites™ Soft Chews are here to help keep their oral pH in a healthy balance.

Ortek Therapeutics, Inc. and researchers at Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine developed BasicBites, delicious chocolate-flavored soft chews that are tooth friendly. BasicBites are a sugar-free chewy that help maintain healthy teeth, by supporting the normal acid-base (pH) levels that exist on tooth surfaces.

BasicBites are designed to mimic saliva's profound and natural benefits. This oral care product contains a patented blend of vital nutrients that nourish healthy bacteria on tooth surfaces, which helps keep teeth in the existing healthy pH zone. BasicBites also bathe the teeth with calcium, which supports healthy tooth structure. Based on more than 40 years of research, this revolutionary technology was developed in the Department of Oral Biology and Pathology at Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine.

"I am so excited to introduce BasicBites to dental professionals and their patients," said Shannon M. Nanne, RDH, Ortek's Director of Professional Relations and Education. "I have been practicing dental hygiene since 1994 and I believe BasicBites are a much needed product for a wide range of individuals."

"The researchers at Stony Brook University solved the puzzle of the protective and natural benefits of saliva," said Mitchell Goldberg, President of Ortek. "The technology in BasicBites is now recognized as a major breakthrough in oral care. We are thrilled to offer a delicious oral care product based on this groundbreaking science."

Two BasicBites a day, one after breakfast and one at bedtime, can be enjoyed by children over six years of age and adults. Recommended by dental professionals, BasicBites are essential for the millions of individuals with diets high in sugars and those who have dry mouth.

BasicBites, 20 calories per piece, are available exclusively from Ortek at its website, www.basicbites.com. Each container of BasicBites is priced at $39.95 and contains 120 soft chews, a two-month supply. BasicBites can also be seen on our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/BasicBitesByOrtek.

About BasicBites:

BasicBites are delicious chocolate flavored soft chews. BasicBites contain the saliva-mimicking AlkaGen Technology™. This super saliva technology consists of two main ingredients – arginine bicarbonate and calcium carbonate. Arginine is a common amino acid found in saliva and is naturally present in many foods. It was discovered that certain healthy bacteria found on tooth surfaces use arginine to generate sustained base or alkali production. This helps keep teeth in the existing normal pH range. Calcium, which is also found in saliva, is available to coat and support healthy tooth structure. The bicarbonate and carbonate ingredients provide additional buffering and support arginine and calcium. Sugar free BasicBites are 20 calories each, and are fat and cholesterol free. BasicBites contain no artificial sweeteners, are gluten and dairy free, and as an added benefit, they are an excellent source of calcium. Soybean oil is used as a processing aid. Visit www.basicbites.com for additional information.

Ortek Therapeutics, Inc. is a global leader in developing breakthrough oral care innovations that will improve the quality of life for people everywhere.

Henry Schein and Quintessence Host First International Symposium On Digital Dentistry

Posted on Thursday, October 23, 2014

MELVILLE, N.Y., Aug. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Henry Schein, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSIC), the world's largest provider of health care products and services to office-based dental, animal health and medical practitioners, and Quintessence Publishing Co., Inc., the world's leading independent publisher of scientific and clinical information about oral health, will host the 1st International Symposium on Digital Dentistry. The conference, entitled "Technologies That Enhance Clinical Outcomes," will provide in-depth educational experiences for dentists and dental laboratory technicians and owners on the clinical benefits of digital technologies and open platform workflows. The conference will take place Oct. 23-25 at the Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld® in Orlando, Fla. For more information and to register, visit https://www.quintpub.com/dd/.

"This Symposium will be a terrific opportunity for dental professionals to better understand the digital workflow and the significant patient benefits that digital technology provides in terms of increased accuracy, speed, comfort and appearance," said William Hartman, Executive Vice President for Quintessence Publishing. "From achieving superior esthetics to managing complex reconstructions to incorporating CAD CAM in the process, attendees will hear from leading experts in the fields."

Conceived as a pathway into digital dentistry for dental professionals, the conference will focus on procedure planning and treatment, highlighting the ways digital tools can facilitate the clinical and esthetic results of tooth restorations and implants. Participants will learn from specialized, experienced digital dentistry users, who will discuss the many advantages of digital dental technology.

"The future of dentistry is digital," said Tim Sullivan, President of Henry Schein Dental, North America. "The change that digital technology is having on the profession is as profound as the change that personal computers had on society in the 1980s. Similar to the exponential computer technology advances we have witnessed for over 30 years, dental digital solutions will evolve increasingly fast in the years to come. For a dental practice or laboratory to thrive in this quickly changing environment, it is essential not only to make the commitment to digital now, but also to choose a long-term trusted advisor who can guide the way through the many digital challenges and opportunities that will arise. This is the role we are eager to play for our dental customers and why it is important to attend this Symposium."

The Symposium will take attendees through patient treatment approaches ranging from the simple to the most complex, educating participants about the most current digital techniques. Workshops and lectures will cover topics including: selecting CAD CAM systems; esthetics in CAD CAM; digital workflow and working collaboratively with a digital ready dental laboratory; educational applications; implant planning or commercial milling; optimal CAD CAM materials; digital prosthodontics; and advanced digital applications, such as those for complex maxillofacial reconstructions.

"Digital technology is at the forefront of dentistry, enhancing the accuracy, speed, comfort and appearance of dental treatment for patients," said Jonathan L. Ferencz, D.D.S., F.A.C.P., and Scientific Chair of the Symposium. "Participants at this conference will learn that they do not need to feel overwhelmed by the changes happening in dentistry; instead, they should embrace these changes as an exciting frontier of possibilities for their practices."

Manufacturers will be on-site at the conference for product exhibitions, offering hands-on demonstrations for a range of technologies, including CAD CAM, cone beam CT, cloud-based communications, and practice management integration. Conference participants can earn up to 17 continuing education (CE) credits for attending.

Registration Now Open for Carestream Dental’s Reformatted OMS Summit

Posted on Wednesday, October 29, 2014

Oral surgeons and staff are invited to register for the newly revamped OMS Summit, hosted by Carestream Dental. The Summit, previously known as the OMS Users Conference, helps surgeons and staff elevate their practices to new heights with new attendees, new speakers and new networking opportunities.

Taking place Jan. 24-25, 2015, in Atlanta, Ga., at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel, attendees will notice several changes to the new format of the OMS Summit. For example, the Summit is now open to all professionals in the field of oral surgery, not only users of Carestream Dental’s CS WinOMS, Windent and CS OMS Imaging software. Also new for 2015, doctors are complimentary.

“In June, we announced big changes to our Dental Summit, and we’re just as excited to let oral surgeons and staff know about similar improvements to January 2015’s OMS Summit,” Mary Conditt, director of clinical affairs, U.S. digital, Carestream Dental. “They’ll notice a new mix of attendees, new speakers, new topics and even fun networking opportunities.”

One of the biggest enhancements to the OMS Summit is the Implant Treatment Coordinator (ITC) track. This selection of educational sessions covers topics such as the importance of an ITC in a practice; choosing the right candidate; and effective treatment plan presentation. The track is presented by Gold Level sponsor OMS3.

The new track, as well as all other educational sessions, will be kicked off by keynote speaker Bernie Stolz, Fortunate Management, addressing “Breakthrough Oral Surgery Marketing.” In a society where patients have more choices than ever before, this opening session highlights the most effective strategies for attracting new patients and keeping them for life.

Additionally, new speakers will address industry topics relevant to all professionals in the OMS field. A few of the expert speakers included are Michael Pikos, D.D.S, of the Pikos Institute, discussing immediate implant reconstruction; Timothy Hess, D.D.S., addressing facial aesthetics and looking beyond enamel and gingiva; Jeffrey Price, D.D.S., with tips for oral radiologists on how to master cone beam computed tomography; and David Harris, a dental private investigator, speaking on how to avoid fraud within a practice. Other topics include teambuilding; working with referrals; and maximizing the potential of the entire team.

Of course, sessions are also scheduled to train and enhance the experience of returning Carestream Dental OMS software users. Additionally, the course “Taking your Practice to the Cloud,” highlights all the benefits of leveraging CS WinOMS Cloud for practice management and imaging software. CS WinOMS Cloud gives practices the ability to store and share 2D/3D images between offices; offers HIPAA-compliant, secure data backup; and allows for 24/7 access from almost any Web-enabled device, to name just a few features.

These educational sessions provide attendees with the potential to earn eight Continuing Education (CE) credits over the course of the weekend. An additional four credits may be available to those who attend the pre-training on Friday, Jan. 23.

Opening Summit registration to new attendees also means more networking opportunities for surgeons and staff. Events such as Lunch and Learns offer the chance to mingle in a relaxed setting while gaining insider tips and tricks. Additionally, a sophisticated evening at the Summit Reception, featuring a live band, provides doctors and their team both an opportunity to network and relax after a day of educational sessions.

As in the past, the Summit will also host many different OMS technology exhibitors, giving attendees the opportunity to break from educational sessions and explore the latest practice management solutions.

For more information and to register, visit www.carestreamdental.com/omssummit. Use #csdsummit on Twitter and Facebook to stay up-to-date with all the latest news about the OMS Summit.

These changes in format and content will also extend to Carestream Dental’s Orthodontic User Conference, now the Orthodontic Summit, March 13-15, 2015, Atlanta, Ga.

Taub Dental Hosting CE Courses at GNYDM

Posted on Wednesday, October 29, 2014

Taub Dental will be hosting 3 CE courses at the Greater New York Dental Meeting presented by Dr. Ross W. Nash on “Direct Composite Resin Dentistry,” “Indirect Esthetic and Cosmetic Dentistry,” and “Hands-On Direct Composite Veneers.” Visit www.gnydm.com today to sign up for these courses.

Direct Composite Resin Dentistry

In today’s economy, many patients are seeking and choosing a more affordable solution for cosmetic, esthetic and functional treatment. Composite resin and new techniques can be used to provide esthetic results with excellent clinical performance. Those dentists who perfect their skills with direct composite will surely be busier than those who don’t. In this half day lecture program, Dr. Nash will provide information on up to date materials and techniques for Class I, II, III, IV and V anterior and posterior direct composite restorations. The use of direct composite resin veneers for elective smile enhancement and in combination with restorative dentistry will be covered.

Indirect Esthetic and Cosmetic Dentistry

By using an indirect approach, dentists can partner with talented technicians to accomplish elective cosmetic and needed esthetic dentistry with materials that have excellent clinical performance and longevity and combine the skills of both.  In this half day lecture program, Dr. Nash will illustrate various clinical situations that lend themselves to this type of dentistry.  He will show step by step techniques using actual case studies he has performed using a number of indirect processes and materials to accomplish both esthetic and functional excellence.  Non-invasive no prep veneers, traditional veneers, inlays, onlays, all ceramic crowns, fixed partial dentures, implant crowns and bridges and full esthetic reconstruction will be discussed.

Hands-On Direct Composite Veneers

Direct composite resin veneers can be used to provide improved esthetics for many patients without the need for temporary restorations and in a single appointment at fees that are affordable for many more people.  Direct veneers require that the provider be both a clinician and an artist.  Some have more artistic ability than others, but by using proven techniques, the art be learned.  In this half day hands on program, Dr. Nash will provide step by step instruction for applying direct composite resin veneers that mimic natural tooth structure.  He will illustrate both freehand technique and a technique with preformed composite facings that can be used to accomplish both esthetic and functional excellence.  Each participant will create both types of composite veneers on typodont models.
