Candid Partners With Dental GPO Sevāredent to Scale Accessible Clear Aligner Therapy

Posted on Tuesday, March 15, 2022

Candid is expanding its clinical partnerships through an exciting alliance with Sevāredent Sourcing Solutions, a dental Group Purchasing Organization (GPO). Sevāredent serves over 1,600 dental and orthodontic practices nationwide, with a focus on bringing competitive pricing and innovative supply chain solutions to the fastest-growing segment of the industry: DSOs/DPOs. This key partnership will drastically expand Candid's footprint and offer Sevāredent members a convenient clear aligner product—helping them bring high-demand orthodontic treatment to more patients while using less clinical time.

This partnership comes just after Candid's recent announcement that the company will focus exclusively on bringing its CandidPro™ service to dental and orthodontic practices and away from its direct-to-consumer business. Founded in 2017, Candid champions an approach to clear aligner treatment that requires less chairside time than competitors while producing clinically sound results.

"Partnering with Sevāredent is a huge win for both of our organizations," says Candid's CEO and cofounder, Nick Greenfield. "We're glad to see major players like Sevāredent recognize the value we can bring to their members, and we look forward to doing great things together."

"As part of our ongoing effort to help bring new innovative technologies and supply chain value to our GPO members, we believe Candid will help increase patient access to top-tier orthodontic treatment while equipping our clinical partners with the latest in clear aligner technology," says Sevāredent President Blake Hibray.

Candid's partnership with a major dental GPO like Sevāredent will help them bring their clear aligner products to even more organizations nationwide, significantly expanding their network of clinical partners. For Sevāredent, Candid offers its members a future-forward clear aligner solution that minimizes clinical time while keeping patients engaged in treatment.

Announcing the Inaugural AMPLIFY Conference for Practice Growth Through Innovation

Posted on Tuesday, March 15, 2022

A New Kind of Forum for Dental Practice Owners, DSO leaders, and Their Teams that Seek Insight and Advice on the Future Technologies that Will Power Practice Growth.

Simplifeye, the leading provider of patient communication and dental practice workflow solutions, today announced that it will host its inaugural AMPLIFY conference, scheduled from May 19 to May 21 in Tampa. The conference is designed to help dental professionals understand and navigate the fast-changing dental technology landscape and make better investments to grow their practices.

“We created the AMPLIFY conference because simply hearing a great sales pitch is no basis for making critical technology platform decisions,” said Ryan Hungate, DDS, the founder of Simplifeye. Dr. Hungate’s experience as an orthodontist and as a former retail workflow designer for Apple stores gives him a unique perspective on the intersection of dentistry and technology.

“In this era of transformation that includes potentially staggering innovations like AI, blockchain, and Web 3.0, technology decisions will separate those practices that thrive from those that merely survive. We’re providing a slate of technology experts, and a comfortable environment for dentists to explore and learn, sending them home with a playbook of options designed to immediately improve operations and increase profitability,” said Hungate.

The conference, “AMPLIFY: Practice Growth Through Innovation’, features thought leaders from the industry, dental practices, DSOs, and practice management consulting ranks to provide a range of perspectives on using technology to achieve dental practice excellence on everything from revenue and profitability growth to patient and staff satisfaction. For the complete list of speakers visit amplifycon.com.

Topics will range from:

● What types of AI and other technology dental practices are using today?

● Which innovations will be transformative versus those that are passing fads?

● What practices really need to know about blockchain, cryptocurrency, and Web 3.0.

● How teams can work smarter, not harder.

● Strategies to pay for the tech you need and want.

● Getting the dental team to embrace technology and maximize ROI.

● Knowing if a technology investment will benefit your growth and/or exit strategy.

"Technology is changing consumer behavior globally, and healthcare practices including dental offices need to adapt to stay competitive," said Cindy Roark, DMD, Chief Clinical Officer and Senior Vice President for Sage Dental, a DSO with 76 practices. Under Roark’s direction, Sage Dental is deploying AI-driven solutions to improve the quality of care, accuracy of diagnosis, and overall patient experience. “Providing a forum like AMPLIFY is so valuable in demystifying tech and providing a level of comfort for dentists in charting a path for growth with confidence,’ said Roark who will be among the featured speakers at the conference.

Other highlights of AMPLIFY will include:

● A reception overlooking beautiful downtown Tampa’s waterfront.

● The option to network with colleagues over a round of golf.

● An elegant dinner / dance cruise.

● An awards ceremony celebrating Dental Innovations and DSO Influencers.

● A playbook with insights and recommended actions from each session.

Dentists, DSO executives, operations managers, and practice managers are encouraged to register for the conference at amplifycon.com with the promo code AMP22 to receive a $100 discount.

CareQuest Innovation Partners and MATTER Launch SMILE Health to Advance Innovation for Accessible, Equitable, and Integrated Oral Care

Posted on Monday, March 14, 2022

First-of-its-kind program seeks early-stage startups that deliver transformative, disruptive solutions to improve overall health

CareQuest Innovation Partners, a company focused on validating and scaling solutions that improve the oral health of all, in partnership with MATTER, the premier health care incubator and innovation hub, today launched SMILE Health — a first-of-its-kind program designed to identify and accelerate early-stage startups at the intersection of oral health improvement and health equity advancement. SMILE is an acronym that underscores the innovations the program seeks: Simple, Minimally Invasive, Integrated, Low-barrier, and Equitable.

The global open call is focused on addressing critical needs in oral health. One in five Americans do not have adequate access to oral health care. And for many who do, the cost of care is insurmountable. Dental expenses account for a quarter of all health care out-of-pocket spending — that means, in aggregate, patients are personally paying $55 billion annually for dental care. Whether due to a lack of providers, high cost, social barriers, or infrastructure challenges, getting to and paying for dental care is difficult for too many people. SMILE Health wants to change that. It is looking for innovators that are:

• developing preventive or minimally invasive care solutions delivered both inside and outside of the dental offices

• advancing racial, socioeconomic, and geographical equity in oral health care

• bridging the gap between medical care and dental care to improve health outcomes

“Oral health is often seen as separate from overall health, when, in reality, oral health is a critical component of whole-person care,” said Mariya Filipova, chief innovation officer at CareQuest Innovation Partners. “Now more than ever, patients, providers and communities need integrated solutions that make oral care an integral part of the overall health care experience. We designed SMILE Health in response to that need.”

Filipova continued, “our imperative at CareQuest Innovation Partners is to seek out and accelerate to market the next generation of transformative solutions that will make oral health more accessible, equitable and integrated, SMILE Health offers a handful of entrepreneurs the opportunity to build that future.

Applications are open from March 14 through April 22. Up to 10 early-stage startups will be selected to participate in the 12-week program that features access to dedicated mentors; a curated curriculum incorporating subject matter experts in the oral health, innovation, and venture capital; and bespoke validation studies with potential customers that will help participants refine key offerings. Participants will receive a $10,000 stipend to support their participation. Selected startup teams will be matched with SMILE Health impact partners. These partners will help to validate solutions by providing resources, access to data, subject matter experts, and feedback.

“The dental industry is ripe for disruption. We see unparalleled opportunities, especially in early-stage companies,” said Jeremy Krell, DMD, MBA, managing partner at Revere Partners, the first independent venture fund for oral health. “By partnering with SMILE Health, we are joining forces with one of the most respected thought leaders in the industry to identify and scale transformative and disruptive solutions that can improve overall health.”

“Closing the equity gap in oral health care requires new solutions created by and for historically overlooked communities,” said Tuoyo Louis, co-founder and managing partner of Seae Ventures, a leading health care service and technology fund. “That is why Seae Ventures is thrilled to be a SMILE Health partner, staying true to our commitment to support diverse entrepreneurs and industry shaping solutions.”

The program culminates in a Demo Day in September, during which the cohort will present their solutions to a group of industry leaders, including potential investors, partners, and clients.

“Innovations focused on improving oral health have lagged the tremendous advances focused on medicine,” said Steven Collens, CEO of MATTER. “SMILE Health is the beginning of the end of that unfortunate dynamic and we couldn’t be more enthusiastic about partnering with CareQuest Innovation Partners on this work.”

DENTALEZ® Expands Aeras® Utility Line

Posted on Monday, March 14, 2022

With renewed focus on applying innovative technology to solve real, everyday dentistry challenges, DENTALEZ® has added a new offering to the Aeras® Compressor line by Ramvac®. A flexible dual-voltage compressor model that is lighter, quieter, and available with 24/7 monitoring at no charge.

Aeras Compressor by Ramvac

The compressor is up to 22% lighter than the previous model, making it easier to install. Equipped with the same features and benefits dental professionals have come to trust with Ramvac, the powerful Aeras Compressor provides clean, dry, oil-free air in even the busiest of dental office environments, backed by a comprehensive industry leading 6-year warranty. Best of all, it’s quiet ―as quiet as a conversation. The integrated Sound Shield eliminates the need for big, bulky sound covers and reduces the sound level up to 16% more compared to the previous model.

Aeras Intelligence

Revolutionizing the modern dental practice, DENTALEZ’s Aeras Intelligence is the industry’s only predictive operational tool engineered to maintain utility room performance, creating an environment of superior patient care and practice productivity. Like every Aeras utility room product, each compressor comes standard with this smart monitoring. The system forewarns staff and service teams, allowing for a targeted diagnosis which can be done remotely, improving service outcomes, and eliminating unproductive visits to the office.

Product Manager Beth Jones is particularly excited about this launch. “Not all dental equipment plays an equal role in a practice, but compressors and vacuums are mission-critical to operational excellence,” she says. “Now, we can offer our customers a compressor with all the durability and reliability built into the Ramvac legacy, with the flexibility of being dual-voltage. We kept the power but reduced the size, and the noise level. And the smart technology provides a predictive lens into the health of the machine, which means there’s one less thing for our dentists and dealers to worry about.”

Dugoni School of Dentistry Celebrates 125th Anniversary During Annual Alumni Meeting

Posted on Monday, March 14, 2022

Attendees from across the country enjoy continuing education, class reunions, social opportunities, awards and more.

Excitement was in the air the first weekend of March as University of the Pacific’s Dugoni School of Dentistry Alumni Association shifted back to an in-person gathering after two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced last year’s Annual Meeting to be held virtually.

More than 1,000 alumni, guests and friends of the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry gathered March 4-5 for the 123rd Alumni Association Annual Meeting – a long-standing tradition of camaraderie, continuing education and many opportunities to celebrate alumni connections.

The meeting, one of the largest alumni meetings of any dental school in the United States if not the world, was held at the famed Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco.

A wide range of expert dental professionals provided continuing education courses themed around “Keys to Clinical Success.” Other activities included a recognition luncheon, commercial exhibits, research posters, an alumni reception and 16 class reunion dinners.

The Friday luncheon provided an opportunity to honor outstanding members of the Dugoni School alumni family. The program included remarks from Dean Nader Nadershahi ’94, Alumni President Dr. Richard Creaghe ’86 and President-Elect Dr. Jamie Sahouria ’04, along with leaders from the profession that included Dr. Ariane Terlet ’86, president of the California Dental Association, and Dr. Daniel J. Klemmedson, immediate past president of the American Dental Association.

“This is truly a special time in the history of our school,” said Dean Nadershahi. “I’m so glad that you are here to celebrate it with us, in the city where it all began and where we continue to make our mark on the Bay Area and the entire globe.”

Medallion of Distinction Awards – the Alumni Association’s highest honor – were presented to Drs. Jetson Lee ‘84/’86 Ortho, Jack Saroyan ’62 and Allen Wong ’86. The award honors those who have made significant contributions to the school, the Alumni Association, the profession of dentistry and/or to society in general.

Dr. Frank Brucia ’44A, at 104 years old and among the oldest living dentists in the United States, received the rare Arthur A. Dugoni Lifetime Achievement Award, given by the school via the Alumni Association for exceptional achievement, commitment and service at a level above and beyond that is represented by the Medallion of Distinction Award. Dr. Brucia’s long lifetime and lengthy career includes service in World War II, operating a dental practice in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood, community service through a mobile dental clinic for children of migrant workers in the Sacramento Valley and many years of involvement in organized dentistry and the Dugoni School. A longtime supporter of the Dugoni School, Dr. Brucia is the namesake of the Dr. Frank Brucia Loyalty Society. This society honors donors who mark 10 consecutive years of giving to the Dugoni School and at least $50,000 lifetime total giving.

On Saturday night, school donors and guests gathered for cocktails, dinner and dancing at the Legacy Ball in the hotel’s Grand Ballroom. The event theme celebrated the “Quasquicentennial” — 125th anniversary— of the school’s founding in San Francisco in 1896.

Among the 16 class reunions held Friday night, a doubling of the normal five-year celebrations due to cancellation of last year’s meeting, was a special dinner at the Ritz-Carlton for the Class of 2020. Due to pandemic restrictions, the Class of 2020 was not able to hold the usual June in-person commencement ceremony in that year. The Friday night dinner was a special activity organized for the class members to help them officially celebrate together in person.

The mission of the Dugoni School Alumni Association is to foster lifelong relationships among its members and with the dental school. For more details about the Alumni Association’s activities and membership benefits, or to renew or join as an alumni or associate dentist or hygienist member, visit the Alumni Association’s website.

Trandermal Formulation Quickly Delivers Long-Lasting Pain Relief and May Reduce the Over-Use of Opioids and NSAIDs

Holistic Health Therapeutics, a company dedicated to developing natural pain relief alternatives to opioids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), will be making its major dental meeting debut at the 2022 Hinman Meeting in Atlanta. The company will be demonstrating and sampling its award-winning Transdermal Relief Cream (TRC) at booth #1741.

TRC™ was formulated specifically for dental professionals to provide effective relief for facial and cervical muscle pain in patients suffering from acute and chronic craniofacial pain. “We developed it to work within 5-minutes and to last for hours,” explains Holistic Health Therapeutics founder Luis Rivera. ”It was developed by a Stanford PhD and a team of dentists who collaborated to find the appropriate strength to provide an efficacious alternative to NSAIDs, analgesics, and opioids.”

TRC was recently named one of Dental Products Report’s “Top 5 Homecare Products of 2021” and has been well received by dental clinicians. According to leading TMJ specialist Dr. Steven Olmos, "TRC has been consistently effective in relieving facial and cervical muscle pain in my patients suffering from acute and chronic craniofacial pain. It is surprising how quickly it works."

TRC is indicated for use in the following:

• Temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders (TMJ/TMD)

• Myofascial pain

• Post-operative procedures such as extractions and implant surgery

• Keeping patients comfortable during long open-mouth procedures

• Relieving the discomfort of new snore guard or sleep appliances

"Our proprietary formulation contains 750 mg of CBD that can help clinicians alleviate their own occupational conditions such as sore muscles as well as wrist, hand, back, neck and shoulder pain,” adds Rivera. “It is truly a versatile go-to pain relief product.” Many of our customers that provide it to patients, use it themselves.

TRC is only available for purchase by dentists and medical professionals. Doctors can include it in their treatment costs or resell it to their patients. Due to its 5-minute onset time, doctors and their clinical teams are able to apply TRC on the patients while they are in the chair for immediate relief. TRC is backed by 100% satisfaction guarantee. For more information visit www.info@trccream, Dealer, distributor and partner alliance inquiries are welcome.

During the Hinman Dental Meeting, dental professionals who order a 10-tube kit will receive an additional three tubes free.

● More than 350 new dentists and dental students from nearly 75 dental schools and residency programs came together in Chicago, making it the largest VIBE experience to date

● Designed to connect new dentists and dental students with career opportunities at Aspen Dental®, the VIBE experience comes at a time of continued growth and innovation for the company

Aspen Dental® celebrated the company's largest-ever VIBE experience in its new Chicago headquarters on February 26 and 27 – with more than 350 new dentist and dental students from nearly 75 dental schools and residency programs across the nation in attendance. Watch a video about the experience here.

The event, which is designed as an immersive experience in the Aspen Dental culture – showing how the company comes together to work as a team, as AspenOne – offers perspectives from Aspen Dental leaders and the independent doctors and practice owners it supports, and allows candidates to learn more about the company's mission, approach to learning and development, and the path to practice ownership. The VIBE Experience is designed to connect new dentists to career opportunities and elevate Aspen Dental patient care with the top emerging dental practitioners.

More than 350 attendees joined this year's event, including fourth-year dental students, residents, and recent dental school graduates – representing nearly 75 dental schools and residency programs in general dentistry, oral surgery, and endodontics.

Since the events began in March 2018, more than 500 dentists have committed to join Aspen Dental from the VIBE experiences alone – including nearly 50 so far in 2022.

"Our mission is to provide better care to more patients, and new dentists are a critical part of our continued growth and impact," said John Murphy, vice president of talent acquisition for Aspen Dental. "We continue to see that the next generation of dentists want to do well while also doing good, and we are committed to their success through mentoring, continued education and business support."

"This year's VIBE event was a fantastic success in recruiting and connecting with tomorrow's leading practitioners, who play a critical role in providing better care to more people," said Jeri Doris, chief human resources officer for TAG – The Aspen Group. "We are passionate about fostering the development of dentists in the Aspen Dental network, and we look forward to growing with the students who joined the Aspen Dental network at this year's event."

Attendees at VIBE participated in a dynamic and interactive agenda, offering a picture of what it's like to work in dentistry at Aspen Dental. The sessions included:

● Insights from Bob Fontana, founder and CEO of Aspen Dental, and chairman and CEO of TAG – The Aspen Group, on why he started the company and his commitment to breaking down the barriers to care for both patients and providers.

● Perspectives from Dr. Raymond Cohlmia, executive director of the American Dental Association, on the future of the dental industry.

● A deep dive from Dr. Arwinder Judge, chief clinical officer at Aspen Dental, about the company's commitment and investment in coaching, training and education for dentists throughout their careers.

● A candid "Ask Me Anything" session featuring a panel of four young dentists who shared about their experiences joining Aspen Dental, growing confidence in their clinical skills and advancing on the path to business ownership.

● Breakout sessions on specific topics ranging from business management and specialty integration to the latest products and technology including digital scanning and CBCT imaging, digital design, on-site digital labs and 3-D printing.

● More than 500 interviews between graduating students and Aspen Dental practice owners during a four-hour career guidance and interview session.

This largest-ever VIBE experience comes at a time of significant growth and innovation for the company. Aspen Dental expects to open 90 new offices in 2022 and recently announced that its more than 975 offices will transform to all-digital by 2023. Earlier this month, the company also announced the TAG Oral Care Center for Excellence, a state-of-the-art clinical facility designed to provide comprehensive dental care at no cost to underserved Illinois residents. The center, which will open in summer 2022, is expected to serve 2,500 patients each year and will also educate hundreds of licensed dentists in the latest, most advanced dental technologies and clinical procedures.
