Posted on Thursday, December 9, 2021

Setting the standard in regenerative materials, Geistlich Biomaterials has developed groundbreaking product innovations in hard and soft tissue highlighted by Geistlich Bio-Oss®, Geistlich Bio-Gide® and Geistlich Fibro-Gide®. Now, Geistlich Biomaterials is taking another step combining two validated1 regenerative materials for restoring vital bone faster2 – with proven long-term volume stability.3-8

Geistlich Biomaterials introduces the first xenogeneic / allogeneic validated bone substitute,1 Geistlich vallomix™, which conveniently co-packages vallos™, a demineralized cortical allograft and Geistlich Bio-Oss® the leading xenogeneic bone substitute worldwide, with more than 35 years of scientific research.

Verified vallos™ granules and fibers are allogeneic bone substitutes that have been demineralized to ensure high osteoinductive properties.1 A demineralized bone matrix has the advantage of turning over natural bone more rapidly but lacks the volume stability needed in several clinical situations.9

Geistlich Bio-Oss® ensures a treatment solution with demonstrated clinical success, an optimal scaffold for vascularization and new bone formation, and long-term volume stability.3-8

Together, Geistlich vallomix™ offers optimal consistency and performance in demanding clinical situations.1-14 Mix it or layer it – Geistlich vallomix™ is innovation that works with you.

Teledentistry with Heart: MouthWatch Named to Inc.’s 2021 Best In Business List in the Health Products Category

Posted on Thursday, December 9, 2021

2nd Annual List Recognizes 147 Private Companies That Put Purpose Before Profit

MouthWatch, LLC a leader in innovative teledentistry solutions and digital imaging devices , was named to the Inc. 2021 Best in Business list in the health products category. Inc.’s Best in Business Awards honor companies that have gone above and beyond to make a positive impact.

The list, which can be found in the Winter issue of Inc. magazine (on newsstands December 14), recognizes small- and medium-size privately held American businesses that have had an outstanding influence on their communities, their industries, the environment, or society as a whole.

According to Inc. editor-in-chief Scott Omelianuk, “What began for us during the pandemic as an effort to showcase companies that were helping the community has grown into a recognition of social, environmental, and economic impact. The companies on this year’s list are changemakers with heart – and they’re pouring the best of their business into the people and communities around them.”

Rather than relying on quantitative criteria tied to sales or funding, Inc.’s editors reviewed the companies’ achievements over the past year and noted how they made a positive difference in the world. They then selected honorees in more than 49 different industries – from finance to software to engineering to fashion, and more – and in age-based and revenue-based categories. The applicant pool was extremely competitive, with around 2,700 entries and an acceptance rate in the low single digits – a huge success for these honors in the list’s second

year. Honorees for gold, silver, bronze, and general excellence across industries and categories are featured online at inc.com/best-in-business.

“Our primary mission has always been to help providers deliver access to oral care to as many people as possible via teledentistry – despite their location or social status,” said MouthWatch LLC CEO and founder, Brant Herman. “We are honored to be recognized by Inc. as changemakers with heart.”

Dentsply Sirona and 3Shape Expand Their Strategic Partnership with Seamless Connectivity for Dentists and Dental Labs

Posted on Wednesday, December 8, 2021

Dentsply Sirona’s intraoral Primescan and Omnicam scanners now integrate directly with 3Shape’s lab software, delivering better workflows and patient outcomes.

Dentsply Sirona and 3Shape have taken the next step according to their agreement and now provide a seamless and secure integration of Dentsply Sirona’s Connect Case Center with 3Shape’s Dental System software. Dentists using Primescan or Omnicam intraoral scanners for digital impression-taking can now give dental labs secure access to the data through the Connect Case Center Portal. That makes it easy and efficient for dental technicians using 3Shape’s software to work more closely with their dental practice partners.

The new interfaces are available to dental laboratories that use 3Shape’s Dental System and have upgraded to Version 2021.2.

“I always want to give a patient the treatment I feel is best for them. When companies like Dentsply Sirona and 3Shape choose to work together, it gives all dentists and lab owners more opportunities, and that means better outcomes for our patients,” said Dr. Alan Jurim, owner of integratedDENTAL (Woodbury, NY).

With integrated hardware and software, even highly complex treatments can be efficiently planned and executed. Simplifying digital workflows results in a closer working relationship between labs and their dentist partners.

“Digital impressions facilitate communication. After scanning I can discuss the digital model directly with my patient. And because I now can communicate with the lab technician seamlessly, I can share the planned outcome with my patient much quicker – and that is a benefit to the patient that matters,” said Dr. Sabrina Hoffmann, a dentist in Buerstadt, Germany. “What we are experiencing today is truly the dentistry of the future.”

Last June, both companies announced an agreement between the two companies designed to improve digital dentistry and oral health. The goal is to support the dental community through the evolution of efficient, simplified, and digitally oriented workflows for dentists and dental technicians. As a first step, users of 3Shape’s TRIOS intraoral scanner gained validated and seamless access to Dentsply Sirona’s SureSmile Clear Aligners platform, which makes it much easier for 3Shape’s customers to offer patients a leading solution for treating malocclusions.

Both companies are now focusing on expanding customer access to an even wider range of technology choices.

More information about Primescan is available on the Dentsply Sirona Website: www.dentsplysirona.com/primescan

More information about 3Shape’s Lab software is available on the 3Shape website: www.3shape.com/en/promo/dentsply-sirona-connect

Due to the different approval and registration times, not all technologies and products are immediately available in all countries.

Top Oral Care Thought Leader Joins Company’s Partner Network And Mission To Create A More Equitable Oral Care Industry

SmileDirectClub, Inc. (Nasdaq: SDC), the next generation oral care company with the first medtech platform for teeth straightening, today announced Dr. Amira Ogunleye, a cosmetic dentist and oral care thought leader based in Miami, FL, will partner with the Company to advocate for increased access to affordable, safe, and effective dental care. In a partnership that is the first of its kind for SmileDirectClub, Dr. Amira will also work to educate patients and colleagues about the innovative telehealth platform.

As a passionate advocate for equity-building in the dental industry, Dr. Amira, in partnership with SmileDirectClub, will educate professionals and consumers on the barriers marginalized communities face in dental care through social media and digital advocacy, using the platform she has built from her practice and her celebrity patients, including LeBron James, Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child, and Dwyane Wade.

“SmileDirectClub believes everyone deserves a smile that they love, and we created our innovative telehealth platform for teeth straightening to bridge the gaps of access, affordability, and convenience,” said John Sheldon, Chief Marketing Officer, SmileDirectClub. “We know minority communities are disproportionately impacted by these barriers, and by teaming up with Dr. Amira we can shed light on these inequities and find solutions to address the fundamental issues, while also providing an affordable teeth straightening solution to her patients.”

“I’m thrilled to partner with SmileDirectClub as we share a deeply rooted value and purpose-driven passion for increasing access to quality dental care, in addition to a desire to create more diversity in the dental industry,” said Dr. Amira. “As a graduate of Howard University, leading dental professional and mentor, I know how much representation in the industry matters, as well as how important it is for ensuring equitable access to care. I look forward to making a difference with SmileDirectClub.”

Dr. Amira’s practice Beautiful Smiles is the latest to join the SmileDirectClub Partner Network, which has grown to include 735 active or pending training dental partner locations across the U.S.

This partnership builds on the Company’s commitment to help underrepresented dental practitioners and underserved communities of color. Earlier this year, SmileDirectClub partnered with the National Dental Association (NDA) to create a new scholarship program for African American oral health professionals, awarding a total of $210,000 to 28 deserving students. The scholarship recipients will be announced by the NDA in December 2021, providing financial support to the next generation of African American oral health professionals to remove barriers, so everyone has access to safe, effective, and high-quality oral care.

Since its launch in the U.S. in 2014, SmileDirectClub has become one of the fastest-growing health technology companies in the world and is the leading telehealth platform for orthodontia. SmileDirectClub has straightened smiles for over 1.5 million customers around the world.

NCDHHS Announces New Dental Health Training Program for Adults with I/DD

Posted on Friday, December 3, 2021

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services today announced a new dental public health training program: Oral Health Training Program for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD). The program, launched by NCDHHS’s Division of Public Health’s Oral Health Section, aligns with its mission to improve the oral health of North Carolinians and to support dental public health workforce development.

Designing a program specifically for care providers of adults with I/DD living in community Intermediate Care Facilities or Group Homes was paramount because of the critical role care providers have in supporting their residents’ health.

“People with I/DD experience chronic diseases at an earlier age and at higher rates than those without I/DD, making this dental public health training doubly valuable as it connects oral health to overall health,” said Mark Benton, Assistant Secretary for Public Health.

“Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities often have poorer oral health, including untreated tooth decay and gum disease,” said Robin Zeigler, Adult Oral Health Coordinator for OHS. “Because evidence shows an association between oral health and chronic diseases, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, there is good reason to address oral health in this vulnerable population.”

The Oral Health Training Program for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities was created in partnership with members of the OHS Special Care Dentistry Advisory Committee. It closely mirrors an existing program in which OHS Public Health Dental Hygienists delivers training to caregivers in assisted living facilities and nursing homes.

Monarch and RHA Health Services, two community-based organizations and providers of residential services for people with I/DD, hosted pilot programs in community I/DD facilities as the program was being developed and refined. These partnerships offered deeper understanding of the barriers care providers face and pointed to strategies specific to this population to overcome obstacles.

“Adding Oral Health Training Program for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to our training repertoire provides another path to expand our workforce,” said Dr. Sarah Tomlinson, State Dental Director and OHS Section Chief. “Our staff consider care providers who offer regular toothbrushing support to be an important part of North Carolina’s oral health workforce.”

OHS is offering this new program statewide. For more information, providers can contact Robin Zeigler at Robin.Zeigler@dhhs.nc.gov

The New Endo Solution: Performance Unlimited with ProTaper Ultimate

Posted on Friday, December 3, 2021

Dentsply Sirona introduces ProTaper Ultimate, a solution combining the latest generation of ProTaper files, enhanced disinfection and dedicated obturation that works seamlessly together. This system is specifically designed for clinicians who frequently perform endodontic procedures and wish to expand the range of anatomical treatment they provide their patients. As a complete solution, the ProTaper Ultimate Solution comes with files, absorbent points, Conform Fit gutta-percha master cones, and is jointly launched with a next generation sealer, the AH Plus Bioceramic Sealer. It features a Slider-Shaper-Finishers sequence to cover a full range of anatomical situations, a 25% better cleaning efficacy and obturation with ideal fit 100% of the time.

With advances in endodontic treatment, dentists enable patients to keep their natural teeth for many years— ideally for a lifetime. This makes it even more important to have a complete set of products that can help ensure treatment success from root canal treatment to restoration. Since its first introduction 20 years ago, each generation of ProTaper from Dentsply Sirona has stood for a trusted, reliable and predictable preparation method that enables excellent clinical outcomes for patients worldwide.

With ProTaper Ultimate, Dentsply Sirona is now introducing a technologically driven fourth generation system. The treatment concept is based on three pillars: shaping, 3D cleaning, and filling root canal systems. The standard sequence of the shaping pillar includes three file types; namely, slider, shaper and finishers. These feature specific files are designed to safely prepare a full range of endodontic anatomy. Novel auxiliary files are available for larger and straighter canals and all files are available to prepare canals mechanically and/or manually.

The ProTaper Ultimate Solution offers extensive options: The cleaning pillar is focused on eliminating pulp, bacteria, debris, and breaking down products, when present. To facilitate cleaning, a highly flexible, polymer canula with a bifid apical flow channel can safely deliver irrigant deep into the apical portion of the preparation. With a fluid-filled canal, a reagent of the clinician’s choice can be exchanged into both the instrumentable and uninstrumentable portion of the root canal space, utilizing the novel SmartLite Pro EndoActivator, which will be launched in the coming months. The SmartLite Pro platform offers three attachments; namely, the SmartLite Pro curing light, the transilluminator, and the EndoActivator. Finally, the obturation pillar will enable dentists to successfully fill and seal the root canal system thanks to predictable shaping and cleaning. The ProTaper Ultimate Solution also includes dedicated gutta-percha master cones based on the unique Conform Fit concept and technology. Jointly used with a Conform Fit gutta-percha master cone, the new AH Plus Bioceramic Sealer will help ensure filling root canal systems where the sealer bonds to the cleaned dentin walls to ensure healing.

“From its inception so many years ago, our thinking has always been continuous improvement,” says Dr. Clifford Ruddle, endodontist one of the inventors of ProTaper Ultimate, from Santa Barbara, USA. “ProTaper Ultimate has been designed to provide confidence and predictability for the clinician and patient alike. This comprehensive file system balances safety and efficiency when preparing canals that range from easy and straightforward, to large and open, or that exhibit challenging curvatures and recurvatures.”

Setting a new agenda for endodontics

“In endodontics, the files themselves have primarily set the agenda in the past,” explains Greg Sheehan, Vice President Global Endodontics Procedure at Dentsply Sirona. “With the ProTaper Ultimate Solution, we are now focusing more on the entire treatment process, in which all steps and details are precisely coordinated with each other. This simplifies the treatment itself, saves time and gives the user certainty that each procedural step will be implemented successfully.”

ProTaper Ultimate, Conform Fit master cones, and AH Plus Bioceramic Sealer will be available starting Sept 2021 in the United States and following in other countries as per local registration time.

Clinical education is paramount to empowering dental professionals to provide the best possible care to their patients, and our extended program will combine product demonstrations and experiences from experts from all over the world. Dentsply Sirona World 2021 is the ultimate dental experience, offering engaging and dynamic speakers, educational sessions, networking opportunities, health and wellness sessions and educational webinars and more.
