Posted on Tuesday, February 26, 2019

Henry Schein, Inc., the world's largest provider of health care products and services to office-based dental and medical practitioners, has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices, as one of the 2019 World's Most Ethical Companies.

This is the eighth consecutive year that Henry Schein has been recognized, and it is the only honoree in the Healthcare Products industry, underscoring the company's commitment to delivering the solutions health care professionals rely on to improve the performance of their practice so they can improve the lives of patients.

In 2019, 128 honorees were recognized, spanning 21 countries and 50 industries. The 13th class of honorees profoundly illustrate how companies continue to be the driving force for improving communities, building capable and empowered workforces, and fostering corporate cultures focused on ethics and a strong sense of purpose.

"Throughout our 87-year history, Henry Schein has been committed to pursuing our business goals with integrity while also serving the needs of society," said Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. "We are honored to once again be recognized as one of the Ethisphere Institute's World's Most Ethical Companies. This recognition reinforces our commitment to the concept of enlightened self-interest and our 'higher ambition' model of deep, trust-based partnerships. I am honored to share this award with the more than 18,000 Team Schein Members around the world."

"Henry Schein has demonstrated that corporate success and positive societal impact go hand-in-hand when an organization aligns its strengths as a business with the needs of society," said Ethisphere's Chief Executive Officer, Timothy Erblich. "Congratulations to Team Schein for once again being named a World's Most Ethical Company."

Ethics & Performance

Ethisphere's annual practice of tracking how the stock prices of publicly traded honorees compare to the Large Cap Index found that listed 2019 World's Most Ethical Companies outperformed the large cap sector over five years by 14.4 percent and over three years by 10.5 percent.

Methodology & Scoring

The World's Most Ethical Companies assessment is based upon the Ethisphere Institute's Ethics Quotient® (EQ) framework, which offers a quantitative way to assess a company's performance in an objective, consistent, and standardized manner. The information collected provides a comprehensive sampling of definitive criteria of core competencies rather than all aspects of corporate governance, risk, sustainability, compliance, and ethics.

Scores are generated in five key categories: ethics and compliance program (35 percent), culture of ethics (20 percent), corporate citizenship and responsibility (20 percent), governance (15 percent), and leadership and reputation (10 percent). All companies that participate in the assessment process receive their scores, providing them with valuable insights into how they stack up against leading organizations.

ADHA Joins AAP in Support of Pediatric Oral Health

Posted on Monday, February 25, 2019

Every baby deserves the very best right from the start, including the best oral health. Starting in February, as the oral health community turned its attention to the pediatric population, the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) began partnering with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) on the Protect Tiny Teeth campaign.

“Early childhood caries (ECC) still affects more children than it should,” said ADHA Chief Executive Officer Ann Battrell, MSDH. “In some cases, mothers unknowingly and unintentionally pass the bacteria that cause ECC to their child. ADHA and AAP want to make sure that all pregnant women and new moms have the information necessary to ensure the best start for their child’s oral health.”

The Protect Tiny Teeth project is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Its initial phases involved creation of an online toolkit to help oral health care providers educate pregnant women about their own and their child’s oral health.

Educational messages explain the relationship of bacteria to ECC, emphasizing that pregnancy itself does not cause mouth problems and that dental care is both safe and necessary for expectant mothers. Protect Tiny Teeth also teaches mothers how to care for their infant’s mouth before teeth erupt, and that the first dental visit should come before the first birthday. Resources are available in English and Spanish.

ADHA’s contribution to Protect Tiny Teeth involves creation of a companion toolkit specifically for the dental hygienist to use in parent education. ADHA is distributing additional messaging through its social media channels and publications. For more information, access ADHA’s Protect Tiny Teeth toolkit online at www.adha.org/protect-tiny-teeth.

About the American Dental Hygienists’ Association — The American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) is the largest national organization representing the professional interests of more than 185,000 dental hygienists across the country. Dental hygienists are preventive oral health professionals, licensed in dental hygiene, who provide educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support total health through the promotion of optimal oral health. For more information about the ADHA, dental hygiene or the link between oral health and general health, visit the ADHA at www.adha.org.

• API Architecture - One of the most significant features included in TeleDent 2.0 is an API architecture that will enable easy connectivity and integration with practice management, digital imaging and EHR systems. “Our open architecture “bolt-on” compatibility will help establish TeleDent as the industry standard teledentistry hub for seamless connectivity and increased scalability.

• Improved Scalability –TeleDent 2.0 supports more locations, larger referral networks plus better controls for internal and external users. “In other words, we’ve made TeleDent stronger to better adapt to rapidly-growing group practices and public health programs across a range of settings.”

• Integration Support - MouthWatch has created a TeleDent Integration Services Team to help its clients connect the TeleDent API with their existing practice management, digital imaging and EHR systems. This ensures proper installation and implementation.

“We’re continuously improving TeleDent to make collaboration and communication more efficient between internal dental teams and external care providers across virtually any public health or private practice application,” says Herman. “We look forward to demonstrating TeleDent 2.0 at the Chicago Midwinter Meeting.”
