Posted on Tuesday, January 24, 2023

The Pankey Institute unveiled an enhanced brand identity, reflecting its focus on providing exceptional learning experiences for the future of dentistry. At the heart of this branding enhancement remain the four core values that have identified Pankey's relationship-based approach to dental education over the last 5 decades.

Portraying the unique dental education that inspires dental professionals to create superb technical, philosophical, behavioral, and financial habits, the Pankey logo has been simplified and modernized for visual communication.

The new logo is a natural evolution towards a playful and optimistic approach with a multitude of fresh colors representing the diversity of the personally and professionally satisfying experience of their educational programs. Dr. Lee Ann Brady, Executive Director and Director of Education said:

"I'm thrilled to unveil our refreshed brand identity. Pankey continues to grow and evolve, and our new logo reflects who we are and symbolizes our future. Aspen Dental Named a Top National Workplace for Diversity and Inclusion by Newsweek

Posted on Monday, January 23, 2023

A commitment to building a diverse culture earns the company a spot on the list of one of "America's Greatest Workplaces 2023 For Diversity"

Aspen Dental was listed among America's Greatest Workplaces 2023 for Diversity in the Healthcare and Services category by Newsweek Magazine. As the largest branded dental organization in the world, Aspen Dental supports more than 1,000 branded offices nationwide, and prides itself on cultivating a diverse and inclusive work environment for all team members.

"We believe supporting our independent providers is what matters most. We are focused and committed to changing the future of dentistry in more ways than just leading clinical and technological advancements," said Jeri Doris, Chief Human Resources Officer for TAG – The Aspen Group. "While our investment is absolutely paramount to bringing better care to more people, it cannot be done without the power of diversity and inclusion behind it. Aspen Dental offices strive to mirror the communities in which clinicians live and work, creating an environment that is both inclusive for staff and welcoming for patients."

Aspen Dental by the numbers:

● Today, the Aspen Dental network serves 35,000 patients a day through the help of 20,000 team members across 1,000+ locations in 45 states.

● In 2022, Aspen Dental opened more than 60 locations owned and operated by independent dental practice owners.

● 79% of Aspen Dental employees are female.

● 36% of Aspen Dental employees self-identify as Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, or Asian.

● 36% of Aspen Dental new hires 2022 to date self-identify as two or more races, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, or Asian.

"To me, diversity means all walks of life working together to achieve the same goal. Our office has a wide range of personalities and ethnicities, and we all grow and learn from each other every day," said Amanda Tompkins, an Aspen Dental Lead Dental Assistant. "We work as one and do not care about any difference we all may have. I have learned so much about my colleagues, and I'm always growing my mindset and gaining knowledge about the culture of other countries."

Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group based the scoring on the review of publicly available data, interviews with HR professionals and an anonymous online survey of a diverse pool of employees at companies with 1,000 or more employees in the U.S. Respondents were asked questions about corporate culture, working environment and other subjects at both their own companies and others they were familiar with. The survey yielded more than 350,000 company reviews.

At IDS Germany, Admetec to Introduce First-to-Market Integrated Camera & Headlight for Dental and Surgical Loupes

Posted on Monday, January 23, 2023

“Flamingo” integrates HD camera & headlight in one lightweight solution, enabling dentists to easily film their work in real time.

Admetec, a leader in designing and manufacturing custom-fitted magnification loupes and LED headlights for dentists, hygienists, surgeons, and veterinarians, will launch the market’s first integrated HD camera and headlight for dental loupes at IDS Germany, March 14-18 in Cologne. At its booth in Hall 11.1, Stand F058 G059, the company will feature the Flamingo, a lightweight new tool offering modern tech and ergonomic-friendly positioning without excess weight or cumbersome extra wires.

As a battery-powered combined HD camera and headlight system, the Flamingo brings a wide array of benefits. First and foremost, the Flamingo allows simple, real-time recording applicable to a variety of common scenarios, including instructions for colleagues or classes, explanations to patients and patient files, and promotional purposes. With Admetec’s incorporated propriety software, HD video can be streamed via Wi-Fi to laptops and other screens, and screenshots can be taken and autosaved for real-time documentation. Conveniently, automatic software updates eliminate the need to download and install newer versions.

Another benefit is what the Flamingo lacks: heft. Since the instrument is designed to be worn for substantial stretches of work, Admetec designed the solution to be as lightweight as possible. Doing so meant forgoing flashy-yet-unnecessary features such as autofocus, which adds weight despite its limited usefulness in a working environment where distances are typically stable.

Of course, proper light is also critical, both for crisper focusing and attaining quality images. Because the Flamingo’s headlight is integrated with its camera, the light beam remains focused precisely on what its user is filming. This wearable setup also prevents users from obstructing their own light, as frequently occurs with traditional operatory lighting.

Notably, the Flamingo draws upon Admetec’s experience designing and manufacturing both loupes and lights, accruing instructive customer feedback in each of these two typically segregated tools categories. The company’s deep understanding of what features truly matter – and, of course, which do not – informed a design that is especially user-friendly, streamlining both functionality and wearability.

Admetec’s COO, Danny Katz, explains, “The Flamingo was developed because we listened to – and learned from – our customers. There was a strong desire for a tool that offers the benefits of modern tech without the weight or hassle and passionate doctors love seeing dental work – theirs and that of colleagues. Our Flamingo is an elegant tool that enables them to teach, to consult and advise, enriching their knowledge while being easy to use. We look forward to showcasing this groundbreaking solution at this year’s IDS Germany.”

For both convenience and ease of use, the Flamingo’s camera and light connect to a PowerPack – Admetec’s dual battery and control panel system – via a single lightweight cable, a welcome departure from errant, extraneous wires. For added comfort and easy accessibility, the PowerPack either can clip to a user’s belt or sit in a pocket. A personalized, protective case makes travel convenient.

DentaQuest’s Steven J. Brady Named to TeamSmile Board of Directors

Posted on Monday, January 23, 2023

His passion for access to oral health care aligns with the nonprofit’s mission to provide children in need with life-changing dental care

Steven Brady, regional vice president of client engagement for DentaQuest, recently joined TeamSmile’s Board of Directors, reinforcing both a personal and professional dedication to improving access to oral health.

TeamSmile is the nation’s premier advocacy group that partners oral health professionals with professional athletic organizations to provide life-changing dental care to underserved children across the country. Through their programs, children receive free oral health education, screening, and treatment and are taught to recognize that the mouth and body are linked to overall health.

Steven joins the board following his engagement with TeamSmile through his work with DentaQuest’s corporate citizenship efforts. DentaQuest, part of Sun Life U.S., has been the exclusive national dental insurance partner of TeamSmile since 2017 and actively supports many TeamSmile clinics across the country. Recently, the organizations also launched the TeamSmile Dental Home Program powered by DentaQuest, connecting in-need children with long-term oral health care.

“Establishing a dental home is a key step to ensure children – and adults – get the right care at the right time,” Brady said. “Fostering long-term relationships between providers and their patients can be foundational for important oral health habits like regular checkups. I have seen it firsthand – in my work with DentaQuest in Tennessee, the roll out of a state dental home program led to greater access for thousands of kids and their families. We know oral health is a critical piece to overall health and wellness, and I am thrilled to lend my support to TeamSmile’s efforts to bring dental care to as many children as possible.”

DentaQuest is rooted in outcomes-based, cost-effective dental solutions to increase access to care for a variety of populations. Currently, Steven oversees DentaQuest teams that manage client partnerships to deliver dental benefits for millions of people across several states. He also serves as an annual guest lecturer at Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry and adjunct faculty with the Tennessee State University College of Business.

Dentsply Sirona Signs New Partnership With the National Dental Association to Promote Diversity in Dental Education

Posted on Monday, January 23, 2023

As part of its ongoing focus on fostering diversity and inclusion within the dental industry, Dentsply Sirona has strengthened its collaboration with the National Dental Association (NDA) in the US by rejoining the Corporate Round Table1 at a Platinum-level partnership agreement. The NDA is a non-profit organization that promotes oral health equity among people of color by harnessing the collective power of its members, advocating for the needs of and mentoring dental students of color, and raising the profile of the profession in local communities.

The new partnership between Dentsply Sirona and the NDA will help fund NDA programs and support opportunities to provide minority communities with access to excellent dental education, leveraging Dentsply Sirona’s dental technology to educate dentists and student dentists of color. It is aligned with Dentsply Sirona’s corporate values of diversity and inclusion, with its sustainability strategy named BEYOND, and the company’s efforts to build a pipeline for dental practitioners of color, through programs such as those provided by the NDA.

“We are thrilled to enter a new era of partnership with Dentsply Sirona as we advance our shared mission to promote diversity and inclusion within the dental industry,” said Dr. Marlon D. Henderson, President of the NDA. “It is fantastic to have the support of an industry leader as we look to increase our reach and impact within minority communities. With Dentsply Sirona’s innovative solutions and significant experience in dental education, we can ensure that minority communities have access to excellent dental education and care.”

The NDA supports a network of more than 7,000 minority dentists, providing them with education, support, and programs for every stage of their professional careers. One particular focus for the organization is supporting youth in underserved communities to pursue a career in dentistry – through STEM programs, help with college loans, and campus visits. They also help academies with lower means access top-level dental material for their students, to reduce the gap between colleges. Black dentists currently make up only 3% of the workforce in the US.

“I am very pleased to extend our partnership with the NDA and support their excellent and longstanding efforts to mentor dental students from minority communities,” said Erania Brackett, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Dentsply Sirona. “The partnership is a testament to Dentsply Sirona’s strong commitment to diversity and inclusion and going BEYOND to ensure equity in dental education.”

The new agreement was spearheaded by Dentsply Sirona’s BOLD (Black Organization for Leadership & Development) employee resource group (ERG) and builds on a long and important collaboration between the two organizations. Dentsply Sirona is a founding member of the NDA Corporate Round Table, an advisory group made up of top companies in the dental industry designed to strengthen the organization’s growth and development. Through the BOLD partnerships workstream, Jennifer Landgren, Founder and Chairperson of the BOLD ERG, will act as Dentsply Sirona’s representative for the Corporate Round Table.

In addition to its participation in the NDA Corporate Roundtable, Dentsply Sirona will also support NDA-HEALTH NOW® – a signature program providing service, education, and access across the lifespan in underserved communities, from school children through to senior citizens. The company will also leverage the NDA member pool to expand its network of black dental experts, gain insights for product development, and find participants for focus groups.

1. Formed in 1997, the NDA Corporate Round Table serves in an advisory capacity to strengthen the organization’s growth and development. Founding members include Dentsply Sirona, Dental Trade Alliance, Colgate-Palmolive Company, Aetna Inc., GlaxoSmithKline, and Henry Schein.

Nintendo Giveaway to Motivate Daily Brushing and Flossing

Delta Dental of Arkansas Hosts 3rd Annual Say No to Cavities Challenge for AR Families

The prospect of winning a Nintendo Switch OLED just for brushing and flossing wowed the North Little Rock 6th-grader. "What else do I get for participating?" he asked.

How about healthy teeth that last a lifetime?

For the third year in a row, Delta Dental of Arkansas will host the Say No to Cavities Challenge in February, which culminates in a giveaway of two Nintendo Switch OLED models.

The month-long initiative invites all Arkansans to brush their teeth twice a day, floss at least once a day and track their progress on a calendar chart, available for free downloading and mark-up on the company's website at https://www.deltadentalar.com/nocavitieschallenge.

Youth and children ages 5-17 may submit their completed charts to Delta Dental by March 10, 2023, to enter a drawing for a Nintendo Switch OLED. Two winners will be chosen at random on March 13.

The challenge is part of National Children's Dental Health Month, a nationwide initiative to draw attention to the importance of pediatric oral health. Tooth decay is the most widespread chronic childhood disease, even though it is largely preventable with good oral hygiene and preventive dental visits.

"Almost everybody can have healthy teeth and gums that last a lifetime," said Thomas Redd, DDS, MS, Vice President of Professional Relations of Delta Dental of Arkansas. "Daily brushing and flossing that starts in childhood helps prevent painful tooth decay and gum disease. We hope our annual Say No to Cavities Challenge will help develop these oral hygiene habits for lifelong healthy smiles."

The challenge is open to all Arkansas residents, and there is no charge to participate. One entry per participant, please. Partially completed charts may be submitted. Delta Dental of Arkansas employees and their immediate families are ineligible to enter the drawing.

Delta Dental of Arkansas staff has scheduled in-person appearances at some schools and public libraries in Central Arkansas to promote the challenge. Many Arkansas dentist offices have also agreed to distribute the Say No to Cavities Challenge flyers in their offices.

Complete information, along with the February calendar chart and submission guidelines in English and Spanish, is available at https://www.deltadentalar.com/nocavitieschallenge.
