Matching Any Patient’s Teeth to Perfection
Tokuyama Dental’s OMNICHROMA® Flow delivers quality and efficiency
Ian Shuman, DDS
According to Ian Shuman, DDS, the most important parts of his practice in Pasadena, Maryland, are his patients and his team members. "I maintain a family-oriented practice with an emphasis on oral health and reconstruction, and I have a highly dedicated team," Shuman says. "My main priorities are delivering the absolute best in dental care to every one of my patients and ensuring that they fully understand their dental issues."
As such, the products that Shuman uses need to deliver quality and efficiency, so his interest was piqued when he was at an American Dental Association meeting in 2019 and discovered OMNICHROMA from Tokuyama Dental, which is the world's first one-shade universal composite to esthetically match every tooth color from A1 to D4 with a single shade. Subsequently, when OMNICHROMA was launched, Shuman was impressed. "I was astonished that a single shade of composite could match the shade of any tooth structure," Shuman says, "and when the flowable version came out in February 2021, I saw it as a natural progression. What more can I say about a flowable composite that easily fills every nook and cranny in an atypically shaped composite preparation? The fact that it matches the shade of the host tooth to perfection is a huge advantage."
Shuman notes that other clinical benefits of the product include excellent polishability and high stain resistance. "I find it helpful as a cavity base or liner in all cases involving direct anterior and posterior restorations and as a de facto complete restoration where appropriate," he says.
The shade-matching ability also helps with patients who want to whiten their teeth, especially after restorative treatment. "Prior to OMNICHROMA, I would need to wait until after the patient whitened his or her teeth to place the restoration, or I would need to replace the existing composite with a lighter shade," Shuman says. "Now, with OMNICHROMA products, the restoration automatically matches the patient's tooth, regardless of how white it becomes."
OMNICHROMA Flow's shade-matching also provides financial benefits. "The increased efficiency and simplified inventory with a reduction of composite waste saves me time and money," Shuman says. "In addition, I never run low on the most used composite shades."
Shuman is certain that Tokuyama's products will continue to help him provide the highest quality dentistry to his patients well into the future. "For nearly 3 decades, Tokuyama has consistently provided products that I have used on an almost daily basis in my practice, and I know that they will continue to do so."
