Thinner and More Precise Markings for All
Todd C. Snyder, DDS, on TrollFoil 4.5-micron articulating foil
Quality, consistency, accuracy, and speed are some of the main mantras in the dental profession. As a private practitioner who specializes in cosmetic dentistry, I am always looking for products that can help make my job easier and more efficient so that I can provide the best possible results for my patients in the least amount of time. The more accurate that I can be in my direct and indirect restorative procedures, the greater the predictability and quality of the results I achieve and, subsequently, the profitability of my practice.
As dentists, we try to make things as perfect as possible for our patients regarding how we create our restorations' margins, interproximal contacts, and occlusion. Adjusting restorations with articulating papers that are thicker can often lead to unnecessary overadjustments, which can alter the cosmetic appearance and strength of restorations as well as create roughness that may damage the opposing teeth. Furthermore, some inferior articulating papers are unable to leave occlusal markings on certain restorative materials, and others require the occlusal surfaces to be dry in order to leave a visible marking. I have been using TrollDental's TrollFoil 8-micron articulating foil in my office for the past 12 years. Up until last year, this articulating foil was the thinnest articulating product on the market. It was my first choice for my restorative dentistry because it was very good at making occlusal markings on all types of restorative materials, plus it did not require a dry surface to leave a visible mark.
TrollDental is always trying to improve upon their products for dentists. To that end, the company has recently released an even thinner, more precise TrollFoil articulating foil that is only 4.5 microns thick. That is about as thick as a single human red blood cell. As a longtime user of the original TrollFoil, I was excited to hear about this even thinner and more accurate articulating foil. Having used the new TrollFoil 4.5 for almost a year now, I have been very pleased with its ability to create occlusal markings on all direct and indirect restorations, regardless of the type of restorative material being used. Because TrollFoil 4.5 facilitates an even higher level of accuracy and precision in determining where and to what degree to make occlusal adjustments for any type of restorative material, implementing it will ultimately improve practice for any dentist.
Key Takeaways
1. Thinner foil results in the creation of less erroneous markings
2. Improves the accuracy and effectiveness of occlusal adjustments
3. Easy to use because it works on all direct and indirect restorative materials
4. Helps realize time and financial savings by getting the occlusion right on the first try
