Renewed Resolution

I would like to wish our readers a Happy New Year and thank you all for making 2017 such a great year for Inside Dentistry. We expect 2018 to be exciting as well, with timely and practical articles on the subjects that impact our practices.

We're starting the year off with several very informative articles on a variety of different topics. The Inside Endodontics article on antibiotic coverage was interesting to me because I am forced to make those types of decisions regarding prescribing on a daily basis. The indications and contraindications involved in these choices may surprise you.

Van B. Haywood, DMD, one of the leading authorities on teeth bleaching, along with his colleague Rhoda J. Sword, DMD, give us great insight on what method works best for tetracycline-stained teeth. I particularly like how they recommend referring to the treatment as “teeth bleaching” rather than “teeth whitening.”

Our CE article, “Key Factors to Denture Success,” offers great recommendations, including tips for determining vertical dimension and achieving great retention. These tips can be immediately incorporated into your practices.

This month's Roundtable addresses the question of when to use silver diamine fluoride (SDF) in the anterior dentition. SDF has received a lot of attention this past year, and its applications will increase in the future. The panel does a great job providing guidelines for its use.

Finally, congratulations to Michael Cohen, DDS, founder of the Seattle Study Club, on the organization's 25th anniversary of providing the highest level of continuing education to the profession. I will be attending the annual symposium as I have for the past 10 years. It is a meeting I will never miss; I always leave invigorated and amazed at the quality of its content.
