The New Patient Generation and Practice Expansion Program

Increase patient growth with proper practice training

John Pate, DDS, BSc

I have always prided myself on the way I practice dentistry and the relationship I have with my community. After all, I have been involved in both for 36 years and felt like I was doing well.

When it was rumored that my patients were expecting me to retire soon, I was shocked. I decided to look at the practice (and myself) with a different perspective. Upon looking closer, I realized the office was pretty tired and I was looking pretty tired and gray too. It was then when I got a CD from the Scheduling Institute with a recording of a “mystery call” they had performed a week prior with one of my front desk staff. On the call, someone from the Scheduling Institute pretended to be a prospective new patient looking for information. The call ended with my staff member encouraging the potential new patient to go elsewhere if they wanted an appointment quickly. I was shocked.

It became painfully obvious that I had completely neglected the front office staff. It was a revelation after 36 years of practice and spending all of my time in the pursuit of excellent dentistry that I had ignored and undertrained the front staff, which was my fault.

I needed the wake up call to change the course of my practice. I hired the Scheduling Institute and they sent Andrea, one of their certified trainers, to our office. Andrea educated, engaged, and focused our team on the value of new patients and how to produce bigger and better results. She taught us to answer the phone with the same kind of quality and care that we use in the delivery of dentistry.

The training was a part of the Scheduling Institute’s New Patient Generation and Practice Expansion Program. They promise 10% to 40% new patient growth in less than 90 days without investing more money in marketing or advertising.

Before our training, our monthly new patient numbers averaged around 12. Within 90 days, they rose to 34. We’ve been with the Scheduling Institute for 4 years now and we currently average 90 new patients per month. We could not have made these improvements without the New Patient Generation and Practice Expansion Program. As a result of this program, we have exceeded our expectations with plans for an additional office.
