Premier’s Enamelon®
Preventive treatment gel provides superior results with less fluoride
Proper home care and compliance is critical to the success of any anti-caries, anti-gingivitis, or sensitivity relief treatment plan. “Providing a safe and effective daily-use gel that efficiently treats patients’ oral care concerns can be challenging for clinicians,” says James DiMarino, DMD, MSEd, director of clinical affairs for Premier. Compliance, efficacy, infusion of new products, and high levels of fluoride, abrasives, or sodium laurel sulfate further complicate the difficult task of recommending a dentifrice that best matches our patient’s specific needs without exposing them to unnecessary or potentially harmful ingredients.
According to Dr. DiMarino, Enamelon® Preventive Treatment Gel is specifically designed to fill this need. It combines the anti-caries, anti-sensitivity, and anti-gingivitis properties of stannous fluoride with the enhanced fluoride delivery and tubular occlusion-desensitivity properties of amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP).
Enamelon Preventive Treatment Gel incorporates 970 ppm fluoride (F) ion into a refreshing, daily-use gel with one of the lowest levels of fluoride and relative dentinal abrasivity (RDA of 8) in dentistry. Recent independent in vitro testing conducted in accordance with the FDA requirements for over-the-counter toothpaste provided promising results (FDA Method #33. Therametric Technologies, Inc., 2014). The 970-ppm F-ion Enamelon Preventive Treatment Gel provided greater fluoride uptake into lesioned enamel and greater reduction in enamel solubility than two prescription-strength toothpastes containing 5000 ppm F ion (one of which also contains tri-calcium phosphate). These tests also showed that it significantly outperformed a prescription sodium fluoride paste with casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP).
In vitro testing suggests that clinicians may have an alternative to prescription-strength products to help patients with caries, sensitivity, and gingivitis in a gel with 80% less F ion and similar efficacy (FDA Method #40. Therametric Technologies, Inc., 2014). Although these in vitro results cannot be used to confer clinical superiority, it is encouraging to see that a 970-ppm F-ion, stannous fluoride gel designed to deliver ACP—combined with other unique properties—can potentially compete with products with five times the amount of F ion.
Enamelon Preventive Treatment Gel is being promoted as the new standard of caring—a safe and effective alternative to 5000-ppm F-ion toothpastes and other remineralizing products. Gentle, non-abrasive Enamelon Preventive Treatment Gel is safe for daily use and is an easy-to-integrate replacement for other toothpaste, fluoride rinses, and prescription fluoride products. Premier’s Enamelon advantage provides a platform for a successful treatment strategy, allowing dental offices to streamline the products they dispense or prescribe. Enamelon Preventive Treatment Gel is professionally dispensed through the dental office and is ideal for patients of all ages experiencing a wide variety of clinical conditions.
It aids in the prevention of caries, builds increasing protection against painful tooth sensitivity, helps to prevent gingivitis, helps to interfere with the harmful effects of plaque associated with gingivitis, delivers more fluoride uptake to the teeth, promotes remineralization, inhibits demineralization, and strengthens teeth. In each box of Enamelon Preventive Treatment Gel is a trial size of the Enamelon toothpaste with a mild abrasive and 1150-ppm fluoride. For patients concerned about ingredients, Enamelon products contain no sodium lauryl sulfate, gluten, or dyes.
