Ivoclar Vivadent’s Tetric EvoCeram® Bulk Fill

The future of composite technology

Ivoclar Vivadent’s product line is always evolving. The company is consistently creating new materials and technology, improving on already established techniques, and filling voids in patient treatment that the clinician didn’t even know existed. The ability to develop these innovations sets Ivoclar Vivadent apart from other companies in the dental marketplace, and the latest innovations to their Tetric EvoCeram® Bulk Fill composite are no different.

Improving Already Excellent Materials

Ivoclar’s Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill composite offers users a unique formulation designed to provide faster, more efficient placement of direct composite restorations while sustaining long-term clinical performance. Recently, three new patented technologies have been incorporated into Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill’s formula—Ivocerin® light-initiator, Stress Relievers, and a Light-Sensitivity Filter.

Increasing Depth of Cure without Compromise

Ivocerin is a light-initiator, providing deeper and more efficient depth-of-cure and shorter curing time without having to increase translucency or reduce working time. This is because the absorption spectrum of Ivocerin fills the gap between the traditional light-initiators already on the market. This makes it more reactive to curing lights, allowing the material to react beyond the standard 2-mm depth-of-cure of most bulk fill materials.

Although bulk fill materials may offer a deeper depth-of-cure than 2 mm, they typically come with compromises. Increased translucency can deepen the depth-of-cure, but can compromise esthetics. Overly translucent materials may take on a gray appearance when placed in “bulk” layers, especially if the underlying tooth layers are stained. Another way to increase depth-of-cure is by increasing the content of traditional light-initiators, but that can greatly reduce the clinician’s working time.

With Ivocerin, Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill can be cured in layers of up to 4 mm in just 10 seconds without compromising performance or esthetics.

Preventing Common Composite-Related Issues

The addition of Stress Relievers also has a positive impact on Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill. Stress Relievers reduce shrinkage strain by absorbing the stresses generated during the light curing process, keeping the material from pulling away from cavity walls and forming gaps. By preventing gaps, the clinician can better prevent microleakage, the formation of white lines at the margin, and potential failure of the restoration.

Increased Working Time

Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill’s Light-Sensitivity Filter is a special additive within the initiator system that extends working time. It acts as a shield, surrounding the light-initiators and delaying the effects of ambient light. This Light-Sensitivity Filter does not interfere with wavelength of light emitted from dental curing lights, however, allowing the material to cure deeper, faster, and more efficiently.

An Ideal Composite Solution

The addition of Ivocerin, Stress Relievers, and a Light-Sensitivity Filter to a well-proven nanohybrid composite formula provides the profession with a product that offers greater efficiency during placement while maintaining features such as sculptability, non-sticky handling, low shrinkage, high-gloss polish, very low abrasion, high radiopacity, and natural esthetics.
