CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ Esthetic
The latest composite resin from Kuraray uses only one shade to simplify anterior cosmetic restorations.
Kuraray America Co’s Majesty™ Esthetic composite restores anterior teeth quickly and beautifully. Majesty Esthetic uses just one shade of material to restore anterior teeth, whereas two or three different shades and opacities, along with an opaque tint, were typically needed in the past.
The new light-diffusion technology in this product allows Majesty Esthetic to block light in deeper dentin areas, and transmit light through the material where it is thin; at the incisal edge, for example. This material allows the use of one shade for dentin, enamel, and incisal edge, and blocks the transition area of a broken tooth.
Traditionally, an opaque tint was required to block out the dark shadow. The result is a beautiful restoration with flawless color match in a fraction of the time. Decreased inventory is an additional advantage. Fewer materials are needed, which translates to decreased dental supply costs.
Majesty Esthetic’s light-diffusion technology does not allow light to bounce in and back to the eye. This creates the preferred opacity of dentin, where the composite has sufficient depth, as when restoring the dentin layers of teeth. The change in translucency creates a gradual increase in opacity as thickness increases, which provides the ability to mimic multiple layers of tooth structure with one shade. This saves time, money, and inventory while assuring a happy patient.
How Majesty Esthetic Works in the Dental Trenches
The patient photographed in Figure 1, Figure 2, Figure 3 and Figure 4 walked in to the office at 4:05 p.m. on a Thursday, and requested that a tooth be restored immediately. The practice had only 20 minutes open on the schedule, but wanted to help the patient before the weekend. Using Majesty Esthetic and CLEARFIL SE Protect (Kuraray America Co, www.kuraraydental.com) as a bonding agent, the restoration was completed in about 10 minutes.
SE Protect provides all of the great features and benefits of SE Bond—virtually no sensitivity, great bond strengths, very forgiving technique—plus the addition of an antimicrobial cavity cleansing agent and sodium fluoride release. These additional components have been shown to actually increase the bond strengths over time, and protect against future microleakage.1,2
Majesty Esthetic’s light-diffusion technology and ability to mimic the adjacent tooth structure meant that only one shade was needed. No dentin shade, no opaque tint, and no translucent shade were required to achieve excellent incisal translucency and halo effects. The result was a great one-shade restoration in 10 minutes. Completing such a restoration would normally take 40 to 50 minutes, requiring as many as four different shades and opacities of composite with an opaque tint.
At the author’s practice, the Destin Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, SE Protect and Majesty Esthetics have almost totally replaced the more complex composite systems that require multiple shades and opacities to achieve similar results.
