Joyce Bassett, DDS, at the age of 19, attended the Ohio State University College of Dentistry and became a dentist at the age of 23. In 1994, she was a student in the first postgraduate, live-patient, and over-the-shoulder cosmetic dentistry training courses, offered by Case Western Reserve University, Baylor College of Dentistry, and The Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. She presently teaches these techniques, lectures, and publishes on dental facial esthetics worldwide to cosmetic dentists and plastic surgeons. She is a fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, a fellow of the International Academy of Dental Facial Esthetics, and an accredited member of the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Presently, the American Dental Association does not recognize a specialty in cosmetic dentistry. In 1984, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) was formed and is the credentialing board in cosmetic dentistry. She was one of three accredited members in Arizona to pass this rigorous case presentation and was awarded accredited status in the AACD in 2001. Now, she is the only dentist in Arizona to obtain Accredited Fellow status. She is the 36th fellow and the only accredited fellow in Arizona. She has been elected into active membership in the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics in 2005. Dr. Bassett was awarded Mentor status at the Kois Center in 2009 and became an Associate Member in the American Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry in 2011.
