A-dec® Introduces First Digitally Connected Dental Chair and Delivery System

Posted on Thursday, June 22, 2023

Today, A-dec announced a breakthrough in dental equipment with the launch of its first-ever digitally connected delivery systems: the A-dec 500 Pro and A-dec 300 Pro platforms.

A-dec President, Marv Nelson, noted that the company has a long history of innovation and a deeply embedded mission of working for the betterment of dentistry. “We believe that connected dental equipment is the future of dentistry,” he said. “A-dec is leading the way with the introduction of these new delivery systems. Like all A-dec products, they’re designed to be simple, reliable, and intuitive.”

At the heart of the company’s new technology platform is A-dec+, an updatable software platform that supports the doctor and the dental practice, as well as their A-dec equipment, with a new level of connection.

A-dec VP of Digital and Technology, Ryan Williams, explained, “Doctors are already familiar with smart, connected products in their daily lives. Our goal is to bring that technology, and an improved user experience, into their operatories—and to elevate their practices now and into the future.”

A-dec+ provides the digital foundation to integrate and seamlessly add the latest products, applications, and features. With use of the A-dec+ mobile or web application, doctors will gain a centralized platform to view their ecosystem of connected equipment, where valuable insights into the use and performance of their connected equipment will grow with them. Whether viewing a connected operatory, clinic, or multiple locations, A-dec+ connects the doctor to their practice. As advancements in technology occur, A-dec+ software updates will enable A-dec equipment to evolve.

The A-dec 500 Pro delivery comes fully enabled with A-dec+; adding the A-dec+ Gateway enables A-dec+ on the 300 Pro delivery. Both deliveries also feature new user interfaces to support the A-dec+ platform: the Dynamic Screen 7 touchscreen (A-dec 500 Pro) and the Control Pad 5i (A-dec 300 Pro). All new 311, 411, and 511 chairs, in addition to the A-dec 500 assistant’s line, will be fully A-dec+ compatible, accepting software updates while offering the benefits of a connected platform.

Nelson and Williams emphasized that these new solutions are the first of several A-dec+ supported products the company plans to release. “The A-dec 500 Pro and A-dec 300 Pro are only the beginning,” said Williams. “Doctors can look forward to seeing more A-dec products enabled with A-dec+ technology.”

Order acceptance for the A-dec 500 Pro and A-dec 300 Pro delivery systems begins today, along with the new A-dec 341 and A-dec Inspire® 391 treatment consoles.

Dandy, an End-to-End Digital Dental Lab, Shares Exclusive Insights on the Behavior of U.S. Dental Patients

Posted on Wednesday, June 21, 2023

These Exclusive Industry Insights Aim to Revolutionize How Dental Practices Retain and Attract New Patients

In an effort to help dentists maximize their practices’ efficiency and patient satisfaction, Dandy has today announced the release of its first Dandy Dental Study: Patient Experience. Through original research, Dandy hopes to ultimately bring value to the dental community in the form of need-to-know intel and actionable next steps.

“We’ve orchestrated a survey of US dental patients and then synthesized the data in a way that gives color and real recommendations to dentists,” said Jeremy Wano, DMD, head of customer experience programs at Dandy. “For this first installment in particular, we honed in on three core elements of any dental practice: attracting new patients, retaining existing patients, and general findings around patient dissatisfaction. Our hope is that dentists can run with this and make meaningful change for their patients and ultimately their businesses.”

This first study of the series, linked here, is set to focus on patient experience. After noticing a “soft skills” gap in the profession, the team at Dandy chose to cast this survey to see what patients really think about their dentists, what makes them like the practice they go to, what would make them leave a practice, what they look for in a practice, and what would prompt them to endorse a practice.

One of the most valuable takeaways within the study, particularly from a marketing standpoint, is that 67% of people looking for a new dentist use online reviews, with Google being the most popular platform by a landslide. Additional findings can be found below:

Attracting New Patients:

● 76% of people looking at online reviews seek information on location and insurance in reviews.

● 1-in-4 look for modern dental technology in the reviews.

● 72% of 26-35 year-olds have switched dentists within the past five years

Retaining Existing Patients:

● 93% of patients who said their procedures were explained well, rated their dentist 5-out-of-5.

● Practices with a scanner were 12% more likely to be recommended than those with traditional methods. Patients who experienced the digital scanner perceived to have less time in the chair than expected to those who had traditional impressions.

● 62% of patients have switched dentists due to poor experience and rated their dentist low on transparency

Patient Dissatisfaction:

● 8% of Adult US dental patients only go to the dentist when something is wrong.

● 15% of the country switches dentists each year.

● On average patients switch dentists every 7 years.

Dandy is the only end-to-end partner for dental practices incorporating digital dentistry, and practices efficiency through revolutionary technology, skillful training, and world-class support.

A dentist who is powered by Dandy, Dr. Barry Bartusiak of Bartusiak Dental Care said, “There’s an absolute direct correlation between patient satisfaction and your practice’s bottom line. Patients don’t know if I did a good job–if I'm Da Vinci in the way I did their fillings–they have no idea. But their perception, because we treated them with respect and kindness, leads us to where we wanna be. The patient's perception is, ‘Dentists are all about the same’ so what sets you apart is, in their opinion, is how you treated them.”

The Dandy Dental Study tapped Isurus Market Research to survey 600 Americans aged 26 and above who go to the dentist regularly and have had a dental procedure done within the last 10 years.

Additional stats and quotes:

88% of those 35 years old and under looked at Google Reviews.

76% of people looking at online reviews seek information on location and insurance in reviews 77% of people look at the practice’s website

75% of people who rate their dentist very high have recommended the practice

81% have high satisfaction with their current dentist

What prompted elective procedure:

30% Just wanted it done

19% Thought about it, didn’t seriously consider until a conversation with dentist

51% Dentist suggested it

How quickly a dental procedure was done:

75% ASAP

14% Put if off because of schedule

8% Put it off to think about it

4% Put it off until something forced it to be done

Why people switch dentists:

28% because they moved away from location of practice

23% because of a poor experience

22% because insurance changed

25% of people over 55 years old had to find a new dentist because theirs retired

Henry Schein Donates Health Care Products to Support Special Olympics Healthy Athletes® Screenings at Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023

Posted on Wednesday, June 21, 2023

With This Donation, The Company Promotes Wellness and Health Education for Athletes with Intellectual Disabilities Around The World

Henry Schein, Inc. (Nasdaq: HSIC), the world’s largest provider of health care solutions to office-based dental and medical practitioners, will support the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes® screenings at the Special Olympics World Games, that take place from 17 to 25 June 2023 in Berlin, Germany, by donating a range of oral health and medical products essential to overall health and wellness. The Healthy Athletes program offers health screenings and education to participating Special Olympics athletes with the goal of promoting healthy lifestyle choices and identifying problems that may need additional follow-up care.

Henry Schein has supported Special Olympics since 2018 donating essential health care products to support programs in the United States, Canada, Germany, Israel, Jamaica, and the United Kingdom. Through this partnership, the Company has been named a Special Olympics health provider partner.

According to Special Olympics, an organization recognized by the International Olympic Committee, people with intellectual disabilities are frequently among the most medically vulnerable populations in any country, despite severe need and higher health risks.

“Thanks to our long-term partnership with Henry Schein and their continuous contribution of health care products to our Healthy Athletes program, we were able to strengthen our ability to provide the high-quality health screenings that our athletes need while also drawing attention to the health issues faced by people with intellectual disabilities,” said Annemarie Hill, Special Olympics Senior Vice President, Global Health Operations. “Henry Schein and Special Olympics share the belief that all people deserve quality health care regardless of their differences.”

Henry Schein’s donations will be used during the Special Olympic World Games for screenings in five of the Healthy Athletes disciplines, including Special Smiles, which provides athletes with comprehensive oral health care information, free dental screenings, instructions on proper brushing and flossing techniques, and if needed, a referral to a dental care provider at home trained to treat people with intellectual disabilities. Henry Schein’s donations also support Fit Feet (podiatry), FUNFitness (physical therapy), Health Promotion (prevention and nutrition), and Strong Minds (emotional health).

“Advancing health equity and expanding access to care for those in need closely aligns with our belief in the power of wellness, prevention, treatment, and education,” said Jennifer Kim Field, Chief Sustainability Officer at Henry Schein. “We believe that overall health and oral health are closely connected. Knowing that people with intellectual disabilities are often at higher risk for additional health limitations, we are encouraged that this program provides convenient access to optimum health care. We are honored to once again join with Special Olympics and support a program that enables health professionals to help set athletes with intellectual disabilities on the path to a lifetime of good overall health.”

Since its inception in 1997, Healthy Athletes has delivered over two million free health screenings and trained over 300,000 health care professionals, clinical volunteers, and students in using adapted screening protocols and in communicating effectively with people with intellectual disabilities. These trainings also aid in building the health care community’s capacity to serve the needs of people with intellectual disabilities outside of Special Olympics events, as providers take these skills back to their practices and provide higher quality health care to people with intellectual disabilities – not just Special Olympic athletes – in their communities.

The donations to Special Olympics Healthy Athletes are an initiative of Henry Schein Cares, the company’s global corporate social responsibility program.
