Using the Digital Denture Process to Create an Esthetic, Well-Fitting Denture
A successful case with VITA VIONIC VIGO denture teeth
Michael Wang
A man in his 40s contacted the Proto3000 Dental team seeking a financially feasible option to print dentures for himself. Over the course of several years, the patient had spent a significant amount of money and time on restorative work, which all ended in failure, leaving him with a depleted bank account and ill-fitting teeth.
The decision was made to build a digital denture using VITA VIONIC VIGO, a new generation of denture teeth designed specifically for the efficient, digital fabrication of full dentures.
For the first part of the workflow, we used an analog process to take the initial impression, create a custom tray, take a final impression, and then make the wax occlusal rim.
Once the casts were poured, we sterilized and scanned the case using the Medit T710 desktop scanner and imported the images into exocad DentalCAD software to design our first try-in.
To create the design, we utilized the VITA VIONIC VIGO library to determine our material.
We selected VITA VIONIC Wax and designed and milled our first try-in using the CORiTEC 350i Loader Pro+ (imes-icore).
We took copious notes and made the necessary modifications for a second try-in. In exocad DentalCAD, we were able to add an overlay of the initial try-in into the design process, allowing the team to make very predictable changes compared to the conventional wax try-in method. By overlaying the two pieces of data, I was able to manipulate the overjet and overbite with certainty. The second try-in still needed some minor adjustments; however, it was close enough to the final that that we decided to proceed to the final insert.
At the final try-in, we were able to achieve great retention with just a few adjustments. The team also created a same-day lower partial denture for the patient.
Once the final design was approved, we milled the denture base using AvaDent Denture Base. The VITA VIONIC VIGO denture teeth were bonded using VITA VIONIC BOND. Once the restoration was bonded, the patient had his final try-in.
It was a collaborative team effort to create a digital denture using VITA VIONIC VIGO teeth that was both esthetically pleasing and natural feeling in the mouth. The patient finally had well-fitting teeth and splurged on some of his favorite foods.
Key Takeaways

• VITA VIONIC VIGO denture teeth are designed for the efficient, digital fabrication of full dentures.
• Digital overlay of the initial try-in in the design process facilitates predictable changes, compared to a conventional try-in.
