BeSmile's Aconia Zirconia Impresses

Marotta Dental Studio handles large volumes of zirconia, so Inside Dental Technology turned to Marotta Vice President and Director of Education Steven Pigliacelli, MDT, CDT, to evaluate Besmile's Aconia line of zirconia.

Pigliacelli and Operations Director Justin Hayes found the eight variations of Aconia discs easy to incorporate into their workflow, with several notable advantages over other zirconias. "With some brands," Pigliacelli says, "you end up doing it one shade lighter in order to get the right shade. This matches the shade on the label." Multilayer zirconias can present challenges with nesting sometimes, but Pigliacelli and Hayes found that the Aconia SHT Multilayer and TT Multilayer are more forgiving. "There is not a sharp transition line," Hayes says. "It actually has a gradiation through the whole puck. It can be used for both anterior esthetic restorations and posterior bridges up to 14 units." Other observations included the ability to use the same sintering program for most indications, and no unusual challenges with staining and glazing. "It fits in well with our system," Hayes says.
