Freedom HD Provides Highest-Quality Scans
Unusual versatility complements speed and accuracy
By Luke S. Kahng, CDT
My laboratory handles a large quantity of complex cases, from implants to fixed removable prosthetics and more, so we need scanners that help us produce the highest quality possible for our dentists and their patients. Since acquiring the DOF Freedom™ HD scanner from IMILLING a few years ago, we have been able to accomplish that.
The Freedom HD’s 2.0-megapixel camera enables scanning with precision within 10 microns. The Stable Scan Stage Method technology enables the camera and light module to rotate around the center of the scanning stage, keeping the model stable without the use of adhesive or a jig.
Perhaps most importantly, the Freedom HD scanner features an expanded scanning stage that can accommodate large articulators. With so many types of articulators on the market, from plastic to metal to semi-adjustable, our dentist-clients use a wide variety; they often do not follow our recommendations, so we are forced to adapt to whatever choice they make.
In the past, if an articulator did not fit in the scanner, we had to re-articulate, which was aggravating and required 30-40 minutes of labor while also jeopardizing the occlusal accuracy. With the Freedom HD, we are confident in the precision of even the most complex cases, such as frameworks for combination cases. Furthermore, the Freedom HD can do multi-die scanning, and we accomplish all-in-one scanning of upper and lower arches in a single step.
Another factor that helps improve quality is the Freedom HD’s optimal compatibility with DOF’s new ScanApp software. This new scanning software amplifies the potential of the 2.0-megapixel camera, producing the highest resolution and highest-quality scans.
While precision and quality are my priority, we have also benefited from the enhanced speed of the Freedom HD, especially when used with the ScanApp software’s streamlined scan methods. DOF advertises 40% faster scan times with the new software, and while several variables exist when you are actually using the machines, I can verify that this scanner is significantly faster than others. It has noticeably impacted productivity in our laboratory for that reason.
Thankfully, that productivity did not come at a steep price. IMILLING has been an exceptional partner as a distributor, starting with affordable pricing for premium equipment. Unlike some other scanners, the Freedom HD does not require yearly fees.
The partnership extends beyond the initial sale. A successful laboratory requires strong technical support, especially when you are dealing with implants. Even though the Freedom HD is easy enough to operate with little to no training, IMILLING experts are always available to answer our questions quickly and effectively.
Often, when customers call companies for support, the specialists are simply reading from a manual. IMILLING, however, uses these machines in their own facilities, so they can speak authoritatively with extensive knowledge based on their own user experience. They also provide quick assistance so that our turnaround times are not affected.
If any laboratory were to ask me for a fast, accurate, and versatile scanner that is affordable and comes with excellent technical support, I would recommend purchasing the Freedom HD from IMILLING.
