Straumann Acquires Stake in Dental Wings
Investors believe their new partnership will raise Straumann’s digital credibility.
Swiss-based dental implant manufacturer, Straumann, has purchased a significant portion of Dental Wings, a privately owned Canadian firm known as a leading developer of digital dentistry techniques. Reuters placed Straumann’s newly acquired stake at 30%.
After disclosing the acquisition, Straumann Holdings said that it had shown interest in investing in Dental Wings in March 2011 by announcing a partnership with the company to create a standard software platform that could be used across numerous dental applications.
“The need for standardization in digital dentistry is acute as the number of different systems has risen considerably, adding complexity for dentists and dental laboratories,” the company said in a statement.
