In the Fast Lane

BIOMET3i speeds along the digital highway with new collaborations and an interactive 3-D experience.

BIOMET 3i is taking the next step in interactive experiences with the release of BIOMET 3i AR. It allows dental professionals to view products and services interactively with dynamic, 3-D moveable models utilizing computer-generated imagery. BIOMET 3i AR is available at www.ar.biomet3i.com and requires a webcam and Adobe Flash.

BIOMET 3i has also entered into a number of collaborations to create digital solutions that will simplify esthetic restorations. The company has joined up with 3M ESPE, utilizing its patented Encode® Impression System with the Lava™ Chairside Oral Scanner C.O.S to create intraoral impressions for custom abutments. Dental professionals will now be able to make an impression of a healing abutment with an intraoral device that will scan embedded codes on the occlusal surface of the abutment, the surrounding soft tissue, and adjacent dentition.

BIOMET 3i is also teaming up with Cadent to offer digital intraoral impressions through the Encode Impression System and Cadent’s iTero™ System. This collaboration will also allow dental professionals to make an impression of a healing abutment with the use of an intraoral wand that will scan embedded codes on the abutment’s occlusal surface. The codes indicate the implant depth, hex orientation, platform connection, and connection type to design and mill the definitive abutment.

3Shape A/S has also entered into a collaborative relationship with BIOMET 3i to provide dental laboratories with the ability to design patient-specific abutments through the use of 3Shape Dental 3D Scanners, DentalDesigner™, AbutmentDesigner™ CAD software, and computer-aided manufacturing. BIOMET 3i will expand its digital dentistry offerings through 3Shape with 3i incise™ copings and frameworks in zirconia and cobalt chrome (available only in Europe). The copings and frameworks may be milled at BIOMET 3i and Renishaw’s central manufacturing sites or locally using a Renishaw Mill.
