Howe Acquires CMP Industries LLC
Howe plans to broaden removable prosthodontic lines.
Devon O. Howe, president and chief executive officer of CMP Industries (www.cmpindustries.com), officially became the company’s owner in July 2010 when the Board of Managers approved the deal. “This has officially been in the works for the past year and a half,” Howe said. “Unofficially, it’s been my goal for three and a half years when I signed on with the company.”
A leading supplier of non-precious alloys, materials, and equipment for the manufacture of complete and partial dentures as well as crowns and bridges, CMP’s strength has always been in serving its customers. “We are the only company that has a group of trained partial denture experts in the field,” Howe said. “Our technical reps are trained dental technicians with 20 to 30 years of experience each, and they can go into a lab and analyze a lab’s fabrication processes as well as diagnose and repair equipment issues.” The company also has technical representatives in-house, including Director of Technical Services Elmer Rose, CDT, who received the 2009 NADL Hall of Fame award.
Howe plans to further focus on removable prosthodontics, broadening the metal-based partial line to include flexible partial denture material and a new acrylic product line. “We also have recently developed a complete line of non-precious crown and bridge alloys and just upgraded our website with online ordering capability,” Howe said.
Founded in 1889, CMP still resides in the same building it did when it was known as the Consolidated Car Heating Company. Franklin D. Roosevelt’s father was the founding director and organizer of the original company, which manufactured heaters for railway cars. A year later, the fledgling firm merged with a company in upstate New York owned by George Westinghouse, who became the company’s second president.
Today, CMP distributes products from four distribution centers in the United States and in more than 50 countries around the world. It evolved into a full-service dental materials company and has acquired other firms over the years, including Nobilium™, Niranium™, Vernon-Benshoff, and Demco™ with popular brands such as Nobilium™, Ticonium™, Niranium™, NobilStar™, Good Earth™, Green Stripe™, Yellow Stripe™, FlexStar™, Impak™, and Installoid®.
“Our expansion into new products and new markets over the past few years has fueled our growth and we are excited about our future,” Howe said.
