Our Eyes and Ears in the Profession
Our Editorial Advisory Board is the backbone of this publication, and nowhere is that more apparent than in this issue's continuing education article. When Amanda Hill, BSDH, RDH, CDIPC, joined the board for 2024, the Inside Dental Hygiene team spoke to her about topics that ignited her passion, and one immediately stood out: antibiotic stewardship.
Dental hygienists in the United States cannot, of course, legally prescribe antibiotics. However, as Amanda noted, dental hygienists' responsibility as healthcare providers is to be informed of the latest science. Hygienists have a unique role in informing and advising not only patients but also dentists and referring providers about antibiotic overuse and proper prescribing. As prevention care specialists, hygienists can proactively prepare patients to avoid the risk of infections and ensure that antibiotics are available when truly needed. Hopefully, this article will help educate and inspire further learning on such a critical topic.
Speaking of further learning, we hope all our readers are aware of the extensive CE opportunities available at insidedentalhygiene.com and idh.cdeworld.com. As you embark on your summer of learning at this year's major hygiene conferences, remember that you can supplement those CE experiences with our webinars, ebooks, and articles. With the help of the 12 esteemed members of our Editorial Advisory Board, we promise to continue providing top-notch education on the most important topics to help our readers thrive in the profession.
