ProGuard™ 5% Sodium Fluoride Varnish

In my role as Director of Clinical Services and Education for Crosstex International, I proactively identify trends in the fields of health care and infection prevention, developing and implementing the company's long-term strategies relating to education and professional relations. One major trend involves sodium fluoride varnish (NaFV), which has the proven ability to seal/occlude dentinal tubules.

ProGuard Fluoride Varnish features convenient, easy-to-use, single-dose packaging and smooth consistency with excellent flow characteristics. Thin film thickness minimizes clumping during application. It does not separate, so there is no need to "stir" prior to application, and it sets quickly, even in the presence of saliva.

How is this different from other in-office treatments?

Some key differences are that it is quick and easy to apply, adheres to moist surfaces, and does not require extraneous trays or evacuation of saliva.

How does it fit into a treatment regimen?

Once applied to the tooth surface, the varnish dries quickly while immediately releasing fluoride followed by an efficient, sustained release. The varnish resins are removed later with normal toothbrushing and expectoration.

How do patients respond?

Patients are offered more comfort and convenience due to the pleasant flavor options, reduced chair time, and the fact that the varnish dries to clear color. Patients are also able to eat and drink immediately after the application.*
