MegaGen Holds 10th Annual International Symposium
Product innovations and techniques for better outcomes were the focus
On November 7 and 8, 2013, more than 700 dentists and technicians participated in a 2-day event hosted by MegaGen, the 10th Annual MegaGen International Symposium, which was held at the Hotel Shangri-La in Bangkok, Thailand. The symposium, titled Evidences & Challenges with Masters, featured the presentation of new dental trends designed to help dentists increase the success of their practices through product innovation and surgical procedures that deliver better patient outcomes.

Led by Dr. K.B. Park, founder and chief executive officer of MegaGen Implant Co., Ltd., the symposium featured prominent keynote speakers and hands-on demonstrations that emphasized the importance and benefits of tooth preservation, treatment planning, and implant esthetics.
The program opened on November 7 with a session called “Point Counterpoint: Tooth vs. Implant,” with Professor Myron Nevins, DDS, from Boston, Massachusetts, and Professor Thomas Han, DDS, from Los Angeles, California. Each stressed the importance of understanding tooth preservation and proven implant treatment. Session 2 focused on the challenges of implant esthetics, which will always be an important factor in determining if an implant procedure is successful. Professors Nevins and Han both spoke on the importance of how implant design, immediate loading, guided bone regeneration, soft tissue management, and CAD/CAM technology aid in better esthetic outcomes.
Following the lectures, the first night of the 10th Annual International Symposium concluded with a special dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. This venue provided the speakers and guests with amazing views of the city.
The sessions on November 8 included the introduction of the Eureka R2 Project, which will provide the foundation for new implant technology and procedures. The R2 Project is led by Dr. K.B. Park and his team based in South Korea. The mission of the project is to create a system of analysis that integrates all data, builds a treatment plan based on digital design, and results in the production of ideal prefabricated prosthetics.
The fourth and final session featured presentations by Nicolas Elian, DDS, of Vizstara of Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, and David Garber, DMD, from Atlanta, Georgia. In their lectures, Drs. Elian and Garber covered essential methods of preserving the alveolar ridge.
