Key Engineering Materials (Volumes 361-363). Bioceramics 20. Daculsi G, Layrolle P, eds. Trans Tech Publications. Switzerland. 2008:1331-1334. doi: 10.4028/www.scientific.net/KEM.361-363.1331.

To analyze the causes of implant failure, this study examined 247 patients who received 479 implants at a dental clinic during a 3-year period. Data were analyzed by patient gender and age distribution, implant placement location, fixture diameter and length, presence or absence of maxillary sinus surgery, and cause of implant failure. Of the 479 implants, there were 28 failures: the causes (in decreasing order) included poor bone quality, poor initial stability, and perforation in the maxillary sinus. The success rate was 93.8% in female patients and 94.3% in male patients, for an overall success rate of 93.1%.
