Innovative Technologies Within Endodontic Practices to Improve Treatment Outcomes: The Importance of Patient Referral
James C. Douthitt, DDS, MS, FACD; and Kirk A. Coury, DDS, MS, FICD, FACD
Advancements in technology have provided a better understanding of the complex anatomies found in root canal systems. Such advancements can offer insights into how endodontists can most effectively provide treatment and value for the patient and referring dentist, as well as the endodontic practice. In the context of their own practice, the authors of this article discuss the application of new technology by first considering the endodontic triad: in-strumentation, disinfection, and obturation. They consider how technology has improved instrumentation, how advancements have been integrated into disinfection and debridement, and how obturation can be best optimized. They go on to discuss specific new technologies for nonsurgical endodontic procedures and present two case studies involving one of these new technologies.
