CE 2: Use of Opioid Pain Relievers Following Extraction of Third Molars
Breanna M. Weiland, DMD; Anthony G. Wach, DMD; Brent P. Kanar, DMD; Mathew T. Castele, DMD; Mark F Sosovicka, DMD; Matthew R. Cooke, DDS, MD, MPH; and Paul A. Moore, DMD
In this article, the use of opiod pain relievers (OPRs), often prescribed following third-molar extraction surgery, is examined. The authors conducted an assessment of patient pain experiences and reported opioid analgesic use to ascertain how many OPR tablets may be necessary, how they are taken, and how the prescriptions are stored or discarded. This is a timely study in light of the renewed focus on opioid prescribing in dentistry.
