CE: Collaboration Between the General Dentist and Orthodontist: An Essential Partnership to Ensure Orthodontic Success
Daniel Bills, DMD, MS
This article offers a continuing education course on collaboration between general dentists and orthodontists. For general dentists, recognizing the early signs of orthodontic issues, such as malocclusion, in children is a necessary part of being a watchful “gatekeeper” of dental care. Properly conveying to patients the importance of the referral to an orthodontist is perhaps as important as identifying the orthodontic concerns themselves. Through communication and partnership, orthodontists and general dentists can help ensure that the success of the orthodontic treatment lasts for the patient’s lifetime.
