Innovations in Dental Health: DenticDS™ PAIR Rinse Utilizes Dual Nanochemistries
The Challenge in the Operatory: A Cycle of Disappointment

In today's dental practices, maintaining patients' oral health between visits presents a significant challenge. Most patients see their dentist or hygienist for routine cleanings just twice a year, resulting in a predictable cycle: evaluation; prophylactic cleaning; and encouragement to brush, floss, and use mouthrinse. Yet, many return with little to no improvement in their oral health, often facing worsening conditions, such as gingivitis and periodontal disease.
This frustrating cycle underscores a critical issue: Despite receiving professional care, many patients struggle to maintain their oral health, which can lead to severe systemic health problems, including cardiovascular diseases and diabetes (Figure 1).
A Call for a New Paradigm: Focus on Oral-Systemic Disease
What's needed is a shift in our approach to dental hygiene that goes beyond biofilm, plaque, and calculus to one that focuses on maintaining the advancements made in the dental operatory by establishing continuous care between visits. As our understanding of the oral-systemic disease connection deepens, it's essential for dentists and physicians to collaborate closely to manage every patient's oral health more effectively (Figure 2).
The Pitfall of Traditional Antiseptics
One major factor contributing to ongoing oral health issues is the reliance on traditional mouthrinses that use strong antiseptics to kill bacteria. While effective at reducing bacteria overall, these products can disrupt the delicate balance of the oral microbiome, leading to the overgrowth of harmful pathogens. Long-term use has been linked to antibiotic resistance trapping patients in a cycle of poor oral health.
Solution: DenticDS ™ PAIR Rinse
The Science Behind the Innovation
PhytoDental Solutions has developed DenticDS™ PAIR Rinse, a groundbreaking product designed to serve as a frontline solution for establishing continuous care. This innovative mouthwash combines broad-spectrum micellar phytocannabinoids from hemp and silver nanoparticles, creating a formulation that provides anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial benefits while promoting wound healing (Figure 3).
Key Features of PAIR Rinse:
1. Gentle Yet Effective: PAIR's soothing and pleasant lemon-mint flavored, non-staining rinse utilizes non-psychoactive natural plant-based phytocannabinoids that support a healthy microbiome with multiple properties applicable to dental disease.
2. Anti-Inflammatory and Antimicrobial Properties: PAIR's activities include an anti-inflammatory reduction in pro-inflammatory molecules, such as TNF-α and IL-1,6, anti- microbial activity against MDR staph aureus. In addition to the phytocannabinoid micelle activities, inclusion of silver nanoparticles enhances both antimicrobial and significant antifungal activity.
3. Clinically Proven Efficacy: Rigorous clinical testing has shown that PAIR Rinse can reduce bleeding and inflammation associated with gingivitis by up to 72%. To date PAIR has been successfully utilized in numerous case studies against mild and moderate gingivitis, even in the face of significant systemic inflammatory processes; lichen planus; thrush; mucosal sores from physical irritation; post- chemotherapeutic oral mucositis; and the painful effect of post-whitening procedures. PAIR has also become the rinse and irrigant of choice reducing irritation and discomfort associated with scaling and root planing.
4. Supports the Oral Microbiome: By fostering a healthy balance of bacteria, PAIR targets harmful bacteria while supporting beneficial ones, ensuring a healthier oral environment. Phytocannabinoids act to tighten the cell-to-cell connections limiting entry of pathogenic bacteria like P. gingivalis and eliminate this and other pathogenic bacteria, fungi and viruses.
5. Encourages Collagen Production: Unlike many traditional mouthwashes, PAIR Rinse supports fibroblasts and collagen synthesis, essential for healing and maintaining a healthy gum-bone connection.
Clinical Innovation: Prescriptive Care™ for Proactive Continuous Care
The introduction of PAIR Rinse into dental practices provides a critical tool for maintaining oral health between visits. It allows both dental professionals and patients to be proactive about oral hygiene, rather than reactive. This aligns with the emerging understanding that oral health is interconnected with overall health, prompting a closer collaboration between dentists and physicians.
By integrating PAIR Rinse into daily hygiene routines, patients can maintain their oral health more effectively, preventing complications that arise from poor oral hygiene. This continuous care plan not only improves patients' oral health but also helps mitigate the risks associated with systemic diseases linked to oral health issues.
Prescriptive Care™ allows dental professionals to individualize treatment plans to match the needs of their patients. By controlling product recommendations, the dental professional ensures patients are receiving products of proven efficacy and safety. Once a patient is enrolled in a continuing care plan, the dentist can follow a patient's compliance-failure to take the advised products is the No. 1 reason for treatment failures.
Clinical Example: The Role of PAIR in Dental Implantation
PAIR plays a crucial role in Prescriptive Care™ Plans for patients receiving dental implants, whether single implants or full-arch implants. Here's how it helps:
1. Pre-Surgical Benefits: PAIR Rinse reduces bacterial loads before surgery, which is vital for preventing infection.
2. Post-Surgical Care: After surgery, PAIR Rinse helps maintain a healthy balance of microorganisms while controlling harmful bacteria, reducing inflammation, and promoting healing.
3. Collagen Synthesis: The unique properties of cannabinoids in PAIR Rinse stimulate collagen production, which is essential for tissue attachment and recovery.
Together with DenticDS™ Recovery and DenticDS™ Assist from the DenticDS™ Formulary, PAIR forms the DenticDS™ Continuous Care Kit. This kit is designed to protect patients from early implant failures and support long-term oral health after intensive and costly procedures (Figure 4).
Additionally, PAIR Rinse serves as a base rinse for dental offices and can be used at home. It can be enhanced with Vessl® technology, allowing dental professionals to create personalized treatment plans that may include:
• Increased antimicrobial and antifungal effects.
• Improved healing for wounds or surgical sites.
• Enhanced anti-inflammatory properties.
• Support for preventing cavities and reducing tooth sensitivity.
