Correction of Class I Malocclusion With Severe Crowding

A 27-year-old male patient presented with severe crowding, misaligned teeth, difficulty in maintaining proper cleaning and flossing, crossbites of mandibular canines, dark vestibule appearance, and displeasure at his overall smile and appearance. The clinician specifically selected ClearCorrect® aligners (Straumann, clearcorrect.com), a Straumann Group brand renowned for its thermoplastic rigidity and high trimline design, due to their ability to effectively meet the retention requirements of this case. The Unlimited case type was selected, which is ideal for comprehensive treatment, long-term retention, and minimizing unexpected expenses. Optimal results were achieved with the expansion of the buccal corridor and by placing occlusal bite ramps to open the bite and correct the anterior crossbite. For proper space maintenance, a bar was placed on tooth No. 19. The patient's total treatment plan included two phases: (1) 16 steps in 6 months that included the extraction of teeth Nos. 1, 16, 17, and 32, expansion of the buccal corridor, and placement of engagers on teeth Nos. 6, 7, 10, and 20; and (2) 18 steps completed over 9 months. Upon completion of treatment, crossbite issues were resolved, overall general oral health was improved, and the patient was pleased with the results. Full-time ClearCorrect retainers were created for both the maxillary and mandibular arches to be worn thereafter.
