Experienced Dentist Simplifies Clinical Workflow With All-Bond Universal®

In his more than 40 years as a dentist, Thomas E. Dudney, DMD, has learned a lot about streamlining the workflow-and satisfying patients-at his Alabama practice.

"Universal adhesives like All-Bond Universal® (ABU) are a perfect example of how new products have improved my practice workflow," Dudney explains. "As a single-bottle product, it has simplified all my adhesive procedures, and because it can be used with total-etch, self-etch, and selective-etch techniques, it is the only adhesive I use for all restorative procedures, whether direct or indirect. This greatly limits product inventory and makes life easier for my chairside assistant when preparing for clinical procedures."

Dudney, who is clinical director of the Pacific Aesthetic Continuum hands-on programs, as well as a long-time lecture speaker and workshop teacher, has been using BISCO's ABU since it was first launched in 2012.

"All-Bond Universal was the culmination of more than 30 years of adhesive research by BISCO," he says. "When I first started using it, there were only two universal adhesives available, and in addition to being familiar with and using other BISCO adhesives, I liked that a dual-cure activator was not needed when bonding dual-cure and self-cure composites and resin cements."

The practitioner and dental educator notes that the versatile ABU has some distinct advantages over other universal adhesives due to two unique features: "One is its pH value of >3, which makes ABU compatible with all self- and dual-cure composites and resin cements, without the need for a separate dual-cure activator. The other unique feature," he explains, "is the minimized water content, which makes it easier to completely evaporate the solvent and all water with gentle air drying, thus decreasing the chance of bond degradation due to hydrolysis."

And while his patients may not realize it, Dudney is sure ABU has played a significant role in their overall satisfaction with his restorative services. "Results that patients may react to would include postoperative sensitivity, loss of a restoration due to bond failure, microleakage, and recurrent decay. The adhesive layer is critical in helping to prevent all of these issues, any of which could contribute to restoration failure and patient dissatisfaction," he says. "ABU has been instrumental in preventing restoration failure in my practice for more than 10 years, contributing greatly to overall patient satisfaction. So, I would have to say that, indirectly, patients have reacted very favorably."

Dudney assesses All-Bond Universal very succinctly: "ABU is a single-bottle adhesive that simplifies clinical procedures, and because it can be used with total-etch and self-etch techniques, it can limit product inventory. For many years, BISCO has been at the forefront of adhesive technology, and I believe All-Bond Universal is one of the very best products."
