Delcam iMetric Scanners

Extremely accurate, fully automated, non-contact, 3-D scanning units for a variety of dental applications

Delcam’s iMetric D62 and D102i scanners are designed to provide the level of positional and fit accuracy that is essential for all high-end dental restorations, including implant bridges, bars, and superstructures. Delcam offers both the entry-level scanner and the advanced model so laboratories can choose an iMetric scanner that best meets their restorative needs.

Both scanners are fully integrated with the company’s DentCAD software, and each uses the latest generation of white-light 3-D scanning technology, combined with precision calibration (better than 20 μm), to provide highly precise and accurate data. The goal is to provide laboratory professionals with a higher level of accuracy so that they can create restorations that require minimum hand finishing and provide a more comfortable fit for the patient.

The entry-level D62 allows data to be captured for crown and bridge work and inlays/onlays. Because it can scan the entire arch, the D62 is ideal for laboratories that are designing general restorations. It also offers customers the unique benefit of easily upgrading to the high-end D102i, without purchasing a new scanner. This is achieved with a simple exchange of hardware attachments and the installation of more powerful software.

The D102i, the more advanced scanner, can be used for all types of restoration and implantology design. It can scan models and implant positions for dental bars, implant bridges, and superstructures across a complete arch. In addition to its ability to handle a wider variety of restorations, the D102i is supplied with a carbon-fiber calibration plate to ensure consistent accuracy. It also features two multi-die adapters, each capable of holding nine components, and a navigation ring with an attachment for scanning the top and bottom of superstructure wax-ups.

Both iMetric scanners include easy-to-use software to manage the capture of the data. They produce a preview of the model after scanning so that any areas that require extra detail can be re-scanned instantly. The data is then transferred automatically into the DentCAD software to complete the design process.

Because it uses non-encrypted industry standard data formats (like .STL and .IGES), Delcam’s files can be exported and imported easily from a wide range of sources for easy model sharing. The open system gives dental laboratories the freedom to work with preferred suppliers, material types, and other software and hardware options.

For laboratory professionals who are looking for a complete system, the Delcam Dental CADCAM Suite includes the iMetric white-light scanner, different software solutions to communicate with the scanner, and hardware for loading, designing, and machining 3-D models for a dental restoration. It offers a single environment for users to work in—from scanning to modeling and machining—without having to pass files between different software packages.
